An epic post of stuff

May 14, 2012 13:41

I have a thoroughly vile headache that I suspect is in large part due to my current bout of insomnia. Ugh. Migraine pills have been deployed so there's no nausea and the pain is down to "ugh" rather than "OMG!". I'm determined not to take a sick day this week. Too much to do!

Girly discussion of hair and shoes, you have been warned )

archery, big book of colours, avengers

Totally with you on the need for a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie. Or indeed just more Black Widow generally. I, erm, may have gone to Amazon & eBay to track down a few Black Widow graphic novels to fulfil my need to know more about her. And yes, you're right - she's utterly awesome. If they don't make a film where she's the main star, they're missing a trick.

I might have possibly put some stuff on hold at the library. And grabbed a few things on Comixology.

Ahem.

I'd love more Black Widow in any capacity. They'd be crazy not to use her character now that we know she can carry some great stories. I think there's a lot of mileage from a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie as well - either elaborating on the hints we got about previous missions (Budapest? I want to know!), seeing the origin stories or seeing what kind of stuff they get involved in when they're not saving the Avengers from Loki kicking as with the Avengers.

I'm seeing Avengers for the third time tomorrow :-) I'm a contractor on a day rate and I'm taking a day off, so this viewing is costing me big time :-) I love that!!!

Afterwards I'm going to go nuts in the Forbidden Planet superstore in Clifton. Muchly looking forward to a totally Avengers day (then Dara O'Briain in the evening, but that can't be helped ;-).

This time I'm just going to drool over Bruce I think :-)

The fandom is growing - AO3's being a trooper! :-)

I love that!!!

Now that's dedication! I'm going to need to see whether I can sneak away while I'm in England...

Speaking of, I'm going to be in London a few times and in Manchester. I may need to hit up Forbidden Planet for goodies :-D

Poor AO3, they had no way to know what was coming!

Someone else on my friends list is learning archery right now, partly inspired by the movie but also I think it was something she'd been wanting to do for a while. (She's also working up a cheap-and-cheerful Hawkeye costume for her next con.)

I'd wanted to learn since I got some trial sessions in summer camps as a teen. At the time, nobody could tell me where I could actually go to take it up properly. I got through all the LotR films without wishing (too much) that I could be Legolas and a couple of years later realised that the mighty Google might be able to help me.

So it was something that I'd wanted to do for years before I got to actually do it. The clubs usually do get a massive influx of newbies after films featuring a lot of archery (my Dad is in charge of beginner's courses at his club and he's inundated) and although most of them don't stick with it after they realise that it's not as easy as Legolas/Katniss/Hawkeye made it look, some do. Mostly the ones who stick at it are the ones who had an interest before the movies came out and they finally got inspired to track down a club in the aftermath.

It's really a lot of fun :-D

Archery is one of those things I'd have loved to learn if I'd had access to the resources when I had the time to work on it. (Dad had a bow at one point, but it was too much for me to string by myself, and I probably wasn't drawing it to its full capacity either. Still, there was a happy afternoon or two spent chunking arrows across the backyard at the target set up on a block of styrofoam against the fence -- and this was when we were living out in the sticks and had a huge yard.)

Some years ago I noticed I could get in some archery lessons at a nearby community college -- I forget whether it was an offered class or whether an SCA group who met there, or possibly I saw both options at different times. Question of money and time, though -- mainly time at this point.
