You are not helping me convince myself that I don't need a kindle. Because obviously I too need all the Miss Marple books in one handy-dandy little gadget.

*does voodoo magic* You do need a Kindle!

I know how tempting it is to have all the Miss Marples in one paperback sized thing that you can carry everywhere for those emergency "need improbable murder" moments.

I may already have started collecting. And I might have bought my first while in Chapters (Canadian bookstore chain) so that I could feel particularly subversive. Got to love having free wi-fi hotspots in most placed here :-)

Glad you're enjoying it so! It's been an absolute godsend for me. Sometimes, the text has odd little quirks, like something didn't quite go right when the e-book version was being prepared, but overall, I've found it to be a great reading experience.

So far, even the free books have been formatted quite nicely. I've spotted the odd place where lines didn't justify well but that's it and nothing has appeared that would spoil the reading experience. I love it :-)

Yay! I like my Kindle so much, and I'm glad you like yours too! Mine has a DecalGirl skin. I have a K2, but I'm jealous of the WiFi ones, because that way you can email stuff (whoo, AO3 stories!) to your Kindle for free and not have to pay because you can only use the cell network. Or sideload, but that's not as fun.

I recommend the free games, and also kindledfans and fanfic_ebooks, and of course a copy of calibre. Lately I've been using Inkmesh to look up free books, but Kindle Boards also keeps a pretty current list. And I enjoy the fact that Baen Books makes all their e-books free to readers with disabilities. Free Vorkosigan books I don't have to hold upright in huge heavy omnibuses!

Thank you for all the recommendations! And reminding me about AO3! I've just sent something to the Kindle from AO3 and it comes out beautifully. Squee!

I'll be bookmarking some things, I can tell :-)

I definitely want to see your Kindle when you come here for Redemption because there's no way to see one otherwise. But it's purely out of curiosity because when they go down to £50 I'll get a Sony.

My Kindle will definitely be at Redemption! It's going to be much easier than hauling along a pile of books every time I cross the Atlantic :-)

The Sony's are still (IMO) too expensive for what they do, but when they come down in price they'll be a great investment. The screen on my Kindle is fantastic, much clearer than Mum's Sony, and I know that's the one they're using in the new Sonys so it's worth holding out for.

The Sonys definitely are more expensive than the Kindle, but the Kindle does more than I'd ever want an ebook reader to do. Plus they're much more complicated to put books on - I was reading the FAQs on Amazon and there's no way I can be doing with all that. But since you're used to the overly-complicated way of getting mp3s on your iPod, you probably don't mind.

I have to admit that so far, it's been very easy to put content onto my Kindle. Anything that I've had from Amazon (free or paid for) has either been bought straight from the Kindle (one click and it's done) or bought on the site. If you buy from the site, you press the 'buy' button and specify whether it's being sent to the Kindle or the computer. That's it. When you turn the wireless on the Kindle on, everything downloads and it's there. Mum's Sony is proving a little less intuitive :-(

I've also just been experimenting with putting some fanfic from AO3 on. It's stupidly easy. I download the story I want to my computer in .mobi format and then email it to my @free.kindle.com email address. Again, when I turn the wireless on my Kindle on the documents just download and they're ready to read. It's almost too easy - I'm going to end up with so much fanfic on this thing! Although, I am going to be reading through a few TARDIS Big Bang stories this way which is nice :-)

I've been looking very keenly at the new Kindle, only thing holding me back is the lack of support for the epub format which is what many of my ebooks, and nearly all of the recent ones, are currently in. I suppose I could batch convert them all it I decided to splurge. One tool I find very useful for quickly converting stuff from web pages is http://www.instapaper.com which has Kindle specific options.
