Bye-bye stuff

The packers arrived bright and early this morning - 15 minutes early, in fact! Thanks to all our hard work yesterday we were able to just point them at the stuff and let them have at it. Mum and I sat in the lounge knitting and chatting, only moving to make tea and confirm odd questions ( Read more... )

I don't know about the iPod, but I usually have a folder full of fic on my Treo. I've got lots of Doctor Who novels and a handful of assorted school stories (and American girls series of the same vintage), if you'd like any of them. It's a pain to read them on the small screen, but it's also handy if you're stuck somewhere without a book.

I may ask you for copies of them when I'm settled and less concerned about losing data in the great move. Thank you :-)

I really do want to get some kind of hand-held device, but I'll need to see how I'm doing financially in a couple of months before I can actually do anything about it. I was just hoping that the iPod would be a temporary solution.

:) Most of them are text, doc or pdf files, so they can be read on a computer too.

I can't imagine functioning without my Treo.

Putting text files onto iPod is do-able, but IIRC when I looked at the possibility, it seemed incredibly convoluted, and because there's a limit to how long a text file can be (I think) that means that any piece of fic is going to be broken down into so many little chunklets.

It's easier printing stuff out to read, I think. Although if I'm wrong and you find a hassle-free way of doing it, please share it and I'll give it a go!

(Ah, just had a check and there's some info here. I was right, though - it can be done, but each individual file can be a maximum of 4KB in size. Which actually I guess isn't too bad.)

So it's possible but not convenient. Hmmm.

I have been doing a bit of research and found a couple of sites that will convert files into iPod-able packages of text files just the right length so it might be a possibility.

Glad that all went smoothly. Hope you managed to de-stress a bit this afternoon.

Any more thoughts on the femslash thing? What are your options?

I can't actually talk about which pairings/fandoms I've been assigned, but I've got the germs of a couple of ideas that shouldn't require me to rent DVDs of three seasons of anything. So it's cool and I'm actually really excited about this year's assignment :-)
