Oh, for God's sake

My inner mule balking at assumed wisdom, fannish consensus and my inner rooter for the fannish underdog kicked in with a vengeance yesterday. You know, I hadn't looked forward to the planned Superman & Batman film, since I had severe ideological and storytelling problems with Man of Steel, though I liked the cast, and basically thought The Dark Read more... )

If you haven't seen The Town, I'd definitely recommend it. That's the performance, of all of his, that makes me think he might be pretty good at being Batman. Plus: Jeremy Renner.

Re: Ben Affleck - I feel much the same way as you, with the exception of having seen Daredevil. It was one of those films where there is a director's cut and suddenly it's a lot better.

I skipped Man of Steel and there's no guarantee I'll even see this movie, but...I'm ready to be surprised. Heath Ledger's Joker, Chris Evans' Captain America - there's certainly precedent. (Chris's Johnny Storm was pretty good, even if the movies were so-so).

Plus, I just finished the first half of BB season five - a show that owed a lot of its mystique to the lead actor playing against type.

I haven't seen any of the Batman movies (well, except for the one with Val Kilmer, and I was trapped on an airplane at the time), so I have no opinion about who should be cast. But I liked Ben Afflick in Shakespeare in Love, so I don't understand the whole hate for him as Batman.

I'm pretty much with you on this. I don't know if I'll see the movie or not - I'm having a bit of superhero fatigue - but I don't think Affleck is a bad actor, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role. To tell the truth, I think I might prefer that to what happened with the two later Bale!Batman films. I don't even think Daredevil is as bad as they say!
