Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)

Well, I fulfilled various resolutions I had in this regard over the winter (Borgen, Once Upon A Time, The Wire), and one of the shows I had been casually eying because it's supposedly a modern genderbent version of The Count of Monte Cristo, Revenge, appears to have gone down hill in its second ( Read more... )

If you haven't seen it, try Bunheads. I do like what ABC Family is doing with their shows these days, although they do have an increased tendency to disappear after the first season. Light and fluffy and a surprisingly good palate-cleanser.

On the other hand I definitely fell in love with the mini-series Utopia, although it was the excellent soundscape and cinematography that really made the show for me. That said, plot was good; conspiracy was good, characters accidentally caught up in conspiracy were good (and generally believably incompetent, although with a few abilities that got them into more trouble through overconfidence). Have no clue where they will go if they want a second series.

Person of Interest has enough long-term story arc to keep me hooked, even though it's definitely a procedural. Also, it has (mostly) exceeded my expectations* in how it writes the women. Both male leads have tragic love stories in their pasts, and there are some other flaws, but the episodes focusing on female guest stars have actually been stronger as a whole than those focusing on male guest stars. And I like Carter (played by Taraji Henson), who is a regular on the show.

*I wasn't expecting a lot, since one of the Nolan brothers is at the helm. But the co-producer is Greg Plageman; maybe he's the one balancing things out so that there has only been a small incursion of evil brunettes, rather than a horde. And the evil brunettes are far more fun to watch as a whole than a lot of other characters, so there's that. They even have mostly logical motivations.

I can only second what everyone else says about Revenge. It's the only show on TV at the minute where I make sure to watch every episode. I haven't seen any drop in quality, in fact I probably prefer it but that's because of spoilery reasons.

Have you ever watched the show Touching Evil? It was a British show first. Eventually the US (Cohen brothers and Bruce Willis) stole the show premise for American tv. It starred Jeffrey Donovan and Vera Farmiga and was fantastic. It only lasted for 13 episodes (that have not been released on dvd but that be found on youtube in fragments), but I loved it! It reminds me a lot of The X-Files without the supernatural stuff.

No, I haven't seen either the British or American version, so thank you for telling me about it!
