Fannish5: Say what?

Five canon events that you found unbelievable and wished had not happened.

Actually, dear meme, these are two different categories, which do not always go hand in hand with each other. For example, given that Londo Mollari is my favourite tv character of all time, I did, of course, spend a lot of canon wishing he wouldn't keep making certain ( Read more... )

Oh, Cordelia. Oh, Nadia. . .for different reasons, of course. But yes, two of my faves and not served well by the stories.

In response to #3, I'm glad I'm not the only person who, when a romance overtakes all other relationships in importance in a show, isn't sitting at home going "Hey, what about such & such, are they just chopped liver now!?"

Doctor Who, agree.

Alias I was all WTF. I get it, it was supposed to be all tragic and such but yeah more like farce.

Not a consistent Fringe watcher but I'm bored of this whole "If I don't have that one person in the universe the rest of you can all go to hell storyline." I read your original post on this and put Sanctuary on my ever growing to watch list.

Sanctuary has its own flaws, but it's delightfully free of this "only romantic love matters" nonsense, and offers a rich variety of relationships and goals treated as important by the narrative instead!

I don't know the other shows really but UGH YES THANK YOU. I don't know if it was Lyndisti's actress or the script that went awry. I got the strong sense from Sic Transit that some of the lines were intended for a more mellow Lyndisti and somehow it went over the top into Manson Family territory and those lines weren't corrected. Lyndisti being a racist and espousing Imperialist views is one thing, murdering hundreds of Narns with her bare hands quite another. And it was such an odd place to end the episode, I was waiting to see more fallout between Vir and Londo, or from the command staff towards Vir, or even a scene where G'Kar and Vir share a moment of acknowledgement (which sadly never happend, to my eternal dismay). In my own fics based on this scene I always ignore that amused resignation and go straight to "Damnit, a woman I loved turned out to be an irredeemable psychopath, I think I'll go drown my sorrows now." because to me that seemed the more reasonable response. But you're right, in a show with such amazing character ( ... )

Cartagia and Lyndisty makes me think of Caligula and his sister Drusilla, which, um, does not augur well for Lyndisty's long term survival. But yes, they'd be shiveringly and dementedly ideal for each other.

It's really the only Vir moment I have a problem with. Any other scene with him is great. But this!

NADIA! And to see Olivia who was once one of the best heroines around reduced to agency-less love interest was so mortifyingly painful.

That plus the finale have pretty much put me off Fringe. I'll watch next season because my very best friends do, but I'm going in guarded.

Poor Cordy, indeed.

While I did like the Connor/Cordelia/Jasmine storyarc in season 4, I can't help but wonder what direction the show might have taken if they hadn't changed Cordelia so drastically (and so clearly to her detriment) into Angel's destined, emotionally supportive love interest (instead of the blunt bitch I'd come to love).

*sigh*

Indeed. Mind you, I think Cordelia would have been paired up with one of the other regulars anyway, because this was a Jossverse show, but I suspect if it hadn't been Angel they wouldn't have changed her so much before that. (My guess she'd have had a romance with Gunn, because First Impressions looks like they were at least toying with the idea early on, which, again beause this is a Jossverse show, would have broken up sooner or later.

Back in my early lj days when I roleplayed Darla and Connor at theatrical_muse, we had a fabulous Cordelia there. Mind you, she still had some weird romances - one time with Orlando Bloom, don't ask - but she was written like a logical extension of early AtS Cordy a few years later.
