I thought you might agree some of these.:) (Also, if you never watch any other Torchwood, watch Children of Earth, because it's fantastic and one of the best things on tv ever, and I never expected it from this particular show. Plus it's chock-full of great female characters.)

In conclusion, the angels have the phone box. :)

Yes, it has a lot to do with bureaucracy. And spin. *shivers* (Also, if you never watch any other Torchwood, watch Children of Earth, because it's fantastic and one of the best things on tv ever, and I never expected it from this particular show. Plus it's chock-full of great female characters.)

3) I still have to watch the last two episodes of that!

4) I...don't actually remember that moment, but since I don't watch much horror, I sure remember that movie. It was so good, and I still don't want to watch much horror after that. The whole build up of what was essentially nothing had me so on edge that by the time the wife, as it turns out, opens up the trap-door I SCREEEEEEEAMED and after the movie had to stay up till 4am watching cartoons to calm down.

3) You should, and not just because of the COBRA scene. *unrepentant Children of Earth fan*

4) Agreed. The entire film is so incredibly scary and manages that without being a hack'n slash at all. So very, very well crafted. *shivers*

I agree that the death of the anonymous student in Hush is the most truly frightening moment in Buffy or Angel.

I don't really get scared easily--at least not in the traditional sense. Existential fear sometimes? Anyway. I've only seen "Hush," "The Haunting" and "Astonishing X-Men", and all three are wonderful. The "Hush" scene you mention is fantastic--"You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard," indeed. I wouldn't have thought to call the moment with Kitty and Colossus horror exactly--but definitely, the lighting and atmosphere work in its favour, and it helps to show the depths to which a character is willing to sink. That's why, sticking with Whedon shows, some of the moments I associate most with horror are main characters' moments of darkness--i.e. the extended, graphic almost fairy tale horror Willow/Warren scene in the deep, dark woods. Or Buffy's stalking Dawn as she prepares to feed her to a demon. (Oh, season 6, you wonderful, messed up gem you.) The only other moment that really occurs to me is maybe the Dawn sequence in "Conversations with Dead People ( ... )

The Dawn sequence in Conversation with Dead People is definitely traditional horror, you're right, and quite effective. Also some moments in Afterlife (Anya with the knife, and Buffy briefly seeing skulls, for example), but the main emotional impact of that episode is the realisation of just what Willow did to Buffy.
