Ashes to Ashes 2.03

I'm in Vienna now, attending a conference on Lion Feuchtwanger, which means little time online. It also meant a train journey from Munich though, and thus I could get my weekly AtA review written.

I can't believe they used a song from the Neue Deutsche Welle in this episode )

ashes to ashes, episode review

Er, not about Ashes to Ashes, but I've just got to the end of the second season of Mad Men, and I have a vague memory you said something about that (and specifically Pete) which I thought I'd come back to once I'd caught up. I've looked up your Mad Men tag, though, and can't find what I'm looking for. Did I imagine the whole thing? Was it someone else? Did you comment in someone else's journal?

I only watched the first season of Mad Men and don't think I said anything memorable about it - basically that it felt like a Robert Altman movie to me, i.e. I can admire it intellectually but there is a complete emotional disconnect. Maybe wee_warrior or someone else was more eloquent?

I don't think so, as she's not on my list. Hm. The likelihood is that it's an American, who would have seen it on original broadcast at the end of October... but I can't immediately think of an American on my list who's reviewed Mad Men. I should have bookmarked it for future reference - it had been in the back of my mind all along, but after a stunning scene involving Pete last night I really want to read it!

Shaz doesn't quite solve the mystery of the week, but she does save Alex's life - it's her idea to track down the monogrammed A-Z and connect it to the psychiatrist, which is how Gene, Chris, and Ray get to his house in time to save Alex. The episode doesn't make very much of this, though.

Right you are. I do hope Shaz will get a promotion this season (other than liason officer, I mean); she's a great example of a character who is unflashy and not larger than life but both endearing and compelling through calm intelligence and kindness.
