Oh, no! I hadn't realised that Sharon Penman had died either. I used to see links to her blog on Goodreads sometimes and as you say she came across as very engaging and sympathetic. What a shame.
I would be far more critical of The Sunne in Splendour now too but I have fond memories of reading it.

The name Jean Plaidy takes me back too. One of my friends loved her books when we were at school. I can’t say I shared her enthusiasm, though they are fine of their type.
