The house keepers. I didn't twig they were Romulan until the supernova was referenced. For some reason I leapt to mintakan (I think that's what they were called? The proto-vulcans from Who Watches The Watchers) first, perhaps because they don't have TNG Forehead bumps.
As you say, I was thrilled with the girl being bumped off or having a twin but hopefully it'll work out. Also slightly dodgy to me is emphasising how unique Data is. Like given sapient holo AI is, I don't think they'd be unable to create more android, though perhaps not positronic ones. It just felt a little overdone?
And given the involvement of Into Darkness alumni there's the looming possibility of 'America Starfleet faked 9/11Mars ( ... )

Yes, they were called Mintakans, and huh, hadn't even considered the possibility, though of course there's an obvious Connection to Picard.
Something else I noticed with approval about the housekeepers is that they both wear comfortable looking clothing. Going by Seven's promo pics, this is the season to allow female character to wear woolen sweaters. ;)
Re: Data's uniqueness - I think mostly for practical reasons, i.e. to answer the question why Starfleet's ships aren't mostly run by androids by now.
