Back in the day, I growled against the existence of Ant-Man (as opposed to the non-existence of Black Widow) with the best of them, but it turned out to be surprisingly charming when I did get around to watching it on dvd, so I'll probably catch the sequel in the cinema. This is such a minor point. I'm sorry but why was there ire at Ant-Man for not being Black Widow? I mean it's a real shame there hasn't been a BW film but why blame Ant-Man over any other film?

Because at that time, there was much vocal demand for a Black Widow movie, and not much, if any, for an Ant-Man movie, let alone one featuring Scott Lang. It did come across as Marvel saying that even a legacy character is more worth to them investing money in and producing a movie about, as long as he's male, than an female main character. Now as I said, I did like the movie. But it's still a shame Marvel hedged its bets for a movie with a female lead so long. Of course I'm looking forward to seeing Carol Danvers on the big screen now, but that doesn't change how long it took.
