The Defenders (Review)

Reader, I marathoned it. It being shorter than any previous Marvel Netflix series, this didn’t take that long. (No filler episodes.) Above cut judgment: overall plot meh, worth watching for the character interaction, with my particular highlights being Jessica & Matt, Luke & Jessica, Luke & Danny (I haven’t watched Iron Fist, nor do I intend to ( Read more... )

The fact that Jessica and Luke talk like adults who still care about each other and want good things for one another is one of my favorite things about the show, and especially because Marvel seems to think that the only way to generate character conflict is to have our heroes jump down each other's throats at the slightest provocation (see: everything Danny does all the time). I was expecting a lot of bad blood between Luke and Jessica, so it was a really nice touch for both of them to realize that, especially in light of the chaos that governs their lives, they should try to maintain their friendship as much as they can.

Hooray for adult (in the true sense of the word, not the rating) relatonships! May the trend continue. I really hope we get Jessica Jones s2 before any of the other next seasons, because one thing The Defenders has reminded me of was it's my favourite and I want more Jessica & her supporting cast than a mixed heroes show can give me.

I finally watched The Defenders a couple of weeks ago, and agree with your review entirely. I would have loved for more Claire w/ Matt, Jessica, Misty, Karen, but what scenes we did get, I enjoyed. I watched for Jessica and Luke, and wasn't disappointed, and I also enjoyed the interactions between Jessica and Matt. I vaguely recall that the first season of Daredevil (maybe the pilot?) dealt with his getting that apartment--I think it was really hard to rent, due to the flashing neon light, so Matt got it for a steal.
I also didn't and don't mean to watch Iron Fist, or the second season of Daredevil, and was not at all impressed by the whole Hand storyline.
I am looking forward to Jessica Jones' next season--although I could also enjoy Marvel's simply doing a hero a season, and no second seasons except for joint series.
