The movie of Watership Down was so traumatizing! Nightmares for weeks as a kid. I suppose a new generation deserves a new trauma.

It does, but you know, I saw the movie even before I read the book as a kid, when I was 8 or thereabouts, and wasn't traumatized at all - at that age, I was also eagerly reading the Gustav Schwab edition of the Greek and Roman myths (in my generation and the one before, standard present for First Communion, at least if you're a child who loves to read), plus I was already familiar with the Grimm fairy tales. If you've dealt with hacked away fingers, toes and other limbs as well as people being thrown into boiling oil (Grimm), and the Gods screwing humans over all the time (literally and otherwise), the death score of Watership Down isn't extraordinary. But it was certainly a punch in the gut when Holly told lhis tale and I realised all the rabbits were gassed, or earlier the wire & Bigwig. And Woundwort & Efrafra were frightening. But no more so than what I was already used to, is what I'm saying.
