I don't think Katniss's original wish to be childless was what it would be today, and that's why the ending works for me -- she doesn't want to have children in a world where they run a real risk of being ritually murdered, who would? Her ultimately going ahead says a lot about her confidence that really, this won't happen again ( ... )

I mean, I can understand someone grumbling that just once, they want a novel where the heroine declares she doesn't want children and sticks to it, but in this particular universe, it's practically the most powerful statement Katniss can make that she really believes the world has changed and that there is a future now ( ... )
