Over the years I have really enjoyed your pictures! You post such nice and beautiful ones that I feel like i can get the tone of a place, like almost being there.
I have always wondered if there is a part of Europe where fall foliage was a major tourist attraction comparable to New England in the US, where "leaf-peepers" are a big part of the economy. Is there? Your photos make a good argument that there should be!
16 years ago, when I turned thirty, the parents & self took a trip through the New England states to admire the Indian summer. The phenomenon itself isn't unknown, but overall we have more needle trees than leaf trees in our forests in Germany (big exception: the Spessart in Hesse), so people don't travel to enjoy the trees in autumn. However, there are plenty of leaf trees in some of the bigger cities, which is why I got to admire this sight!
Ah, that makes sense! I find the contrasts between urban and rural landscapes fascinating.
Here a lot of the natural conifer forests have been destroyed by development (hurting the relevant animals, like red squirrels), though I wonder if we had less of them to begin with because of latitude.
