I'm going to have to watch this - it sounds like a fantastic film. (And that reviewer is just missing the point spectacularly. "Needlessly complex" is the most condemning quote here, and says almost everything.

Pers. experience speaking here, but I've noticed that the UK and US seem to have issues with any complexity dealing with the years 1929-1945.

I shall have to hope it gets shown on UK tv eventually.

This sounds fantastic, and I love your dissection of the Hollywood Reporter review. I will definitely be looking for this film to come through one of the many film festivals in Boston!
