I thought the old matriarch in Mad Max: Fury Road looked somewhat familiar. Turns it was Melissa Jaffer, who played Noranti in the fourth season of Farscape!

And a quick fanfic rec, a lovely missing Better Call Saul scene for Jimmy and Kim:

I really thought I'd have absolutely no interest whatsoever in seeing Fury Road, but everything I read about it (especially how much it pissed off MRAs) has piqued my interest. Plus I feel like I have to go see an action film where the main characters are women (and some even commit the sin of being women over 50!) just to encourage Hollywood to do it again.

Is it worth my time as a story as well as a statement?

The best comparison I can make is to Gravity, which I thought was an extraordinary bit of cinema which would, however, lose some of its power when watched at home on dvd (which is why I never did that and only watched it on the big screen). You could sum up the story in the sense of plot in a few lines - it's essentially one long chase sequence - but not only is it visually done well, but the characters still come across as vivid, and despite taking place in a dystopia there is an essential optimism about humans being able to change if you show them kindness at work, too, and the end isn't cynical, it's as optimistic as you can get within the premise of the dystopia it takes place in, and it feels earned.

Not only Farscape alum Melissa Jaffer (Noranti) played a good role, but Hugh Keays-Byrne (Grunchlk) seemed to have fun as Immortan Joe ( ... )

Well, considering he's wearing a mask all the time, I'm not surprised I didn't recognize Grunchlik ( ... )
