Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell: I read the novel only once, when it first came out, and only roughly remember the plot, so I am not very emotionally invested, but so far, so good for a first episode. I'm charmed (again) by the Georgian plus magic England.

As a huge fan of both JSAMN and Regency Fantasy, I'm hoping that the tv series does what the book wasn't able to (even though its sales penetration were ridiculous in 2004-2005) - make Jane Austen and magic type stories a thing! (I know there are more - I've spent several years hunting them down - but they're way beyond niche right now.)

I thought Regency Fantasy was growing more popular…though it might be because all the examples I can think of are part of larger series, and so each author is producing 3-4 books…

I think a better question is how much of it is being marketed as Young Adult how much as Adult Fantasy.

That is a good point - a huge proportion of my list of the Regency Fantasy is YA. Not quite sure why that is, though.

I have seen a few more Regency fantasy novels in the past several years come out, but it's still not a very high profile subgenre.
