I keep meaning to try this series. I enjoy Melissa Scott's gay Victorian magical detective series immensely and should check out her other work.

I prefer this one, though I have confess I only read the first volume of the gay Victorian magical detectives yet. Not that I disliked it, but The Order of the Air has some central female regular characters - Alma, who's an aviatrix and the owner of Gilchrit Air, she's everyone's boss, and from book 2 onwards Stasi - and interesting female "guest stars", in addition to the males.

Wow, I had never heard of this series before, but your review inspired me to buy the omnibus edition of the first 3 books. Available at iBooks for $5.99 Canadian, incidentally, which is an insanely good price for 3 books, and makes me wonder how on earth Scott and Graham can be making any money from this series.
