I miss young Jenny and don't miss her all at once. I've read the books so I know what happens to all of them. It's all happening much quicker than in real-life, though. But yes, Cynthia becomes a nun. But another nun quits being a nun too as they move into the 1960s. Don't remember if that character is on the show.
I like Vanessa Redgrave because you know that she hasn't forgotten these people even though Jenny has moved on. (Becoming and end-of-life nurse happened like ten years later, but okay show.)
I wasn't sure about Avril, but we've seen so many women give up their babies. One lady was married. That one girl on this very show with the glasses never got to say good-bye. And then the prostitute girl in season one. The Christmas teen moms get to keep their babies sometimes. It seems balanced to me.
I was just torn on if I liked Avril, but when she took the phone from whiskey-matron, I decided I did. :-)
I saw it belatedly, due to my usual source being no more, but I did see it .:)
Avril had a lot of teenage bravado, but she also had compassion for others and the wit and courage to act when she saw how appallingly the matron was failing them, so I liked her as well.
