GotG was a lot of fun, wasn't it? Oddly, though, I found myself having Feels about Rocket. There was a surprising amount of pathos embedded in his character, for all he was a hyperviolent raccoon thing.

Well, he's named after a Beatles song, so of course one has feelings. :) More seriously, he had a Frankenstein's Creature "I didn't ask to be created this way" moment which made me go "aw", true, and yes, it was a very funny movie. Good to relax with.

Amy Acker and the Watch portions were the surprises for me. I expected Denisof to be the stronger of the two, as I've thought of Acker as rather a one-note actress, but she was far better than he was. And the Watch portions really worked, especially all the implied back story. It was a double surprise for me, there, because I usually dislike Fillion. Still, the Branagh one still works better for me all around.

"One-note actress"? Perhaps if you've only seen her in her first season as Fred on Angel. But Illyria in s5 already proved her range. She was great as Dr. Sanders/Whiskey in Dollhouse (much better than Eliza Dushku in the type of role that's supposed to showcase your versatility), and while I have severe problems with the fifth season of Alias, she was an entertaining villain in it.

...end of Amy Acker praise, I promise. Anyway: overall, the Branagh is going to stay my favourite, yes, but luckily with Shakespeare it's easy to like different interpretations at the same time.
