And then we have Poe Dameron. In some ways, Poe proved to be the worst written character in this trilogy. It almost seemed as if Lucasfilm, Abrams and Rian Johnson did not know what to do with him.
Yes, he was all over the place in his motivations, it seemed to me.
It would not be shocking if racism pervades the film, as you say. I just didn't pay much attention to that aspect and it took a comment by another reviewer to make me think that, hey, Tran and Boyega couldn't be a thing because of race. I just was surprised that Tran felt so downplayed in Rise.
