Weekend Stuff

Got my pedometer and also a yoga exercise mat yesterday.  The pedometer is rather fun; it counts your steps so you can see how much you walk (or don't) during the day, which should be interesting.  The mat is for self-preservation when doing exercises that require me to lay on the floor.  We have a perfectly good carpet, but the mat will protect my ( Read more... )

I carry my pedometer everywhere. My first one was a cheap thing that I hooked on my jeans waistband, until the clip broke off about a fortnight after I got it. Then I put it in my jeans pocket, which was much easier, except for the odd occasion when I accidentally reset it to zero. *g ( ... )

Yeah, my pedometer cost me $9.95 at Sears, and it's a clip-on, but I like your idea of IN the pocket as it keeps trying to slip up and off. I think it's also perhaps a bit too sensitive in some ways but not enough in others. It defaults to steps, but I could calibrate it for miles as well; I haven't done that yet, mainly because I'm trying not to get obsessive about this whole thing and start charting/counting everything.

I'm doing my whole program through my insurance company, which offers an online program for its members, with cash incentives for doing the assessment and for every 12 weeks you participate, up to 36 weeks. I've already received my reward for the assessment, which paid for $50 in groceries last weekend! And this is my fourth week into the next one. The cash is certainly welcome (and needed!), but I'd be doing this anyway; it's time. I'm only working on exercise and weight management right now; they also have a nutrition program, but I really don't need it; I KNOW how to eat right, I just don't DO it.

As I continue along this path, I find that people often have radically different experiences with some deities than their myths and legends would suggest. Your experiences with Odin may well be one of those.

Rad is one of my favourite runes, largely because of the artwork in my Runic Tarot deck, but also because it always feels like such a positive rune. Your move into a more monastic type of spirituality is something of a change of direction, and definitely a journey, so it makes real sense to me. It also has control implications, in that you are in control of your journey. It also connects with the wheel of the year. On more mundane terms, it is also about physical travelling, so it is not beyond the realms that Egypt is on the horizon. :-)

I have to agree; most people who work with Yoruban deities are 'supposed' to only speak to them through Papa Elegba, yet Oya has NEVER asked me to do that, nor does she speak to me through him. I guess even the gods know that sometimes you have to make adjustments to accomodate the cultures of others, and it's nice to know that THEY are willing to do some of the accomodating! :-)

I've never had a favorite rune, mainly because I haven't worked with them very much, but I definitely LIKE this one. :-)
