When they're ordering coffee? Probably not. Personally, I understand "venti" just fine, but "tall" and "grande" are ridiculous -- "dodici" and "sedici" would have been less confusing. Fortunately, they still just have three sizes, so I usually just say "small", "medium", or "large".
Agreed. Starbucks' size names are needlessly pretentious.
Also, I think the Viennese don't get enough love in terms of cafe culture. An excellent afternoon coffee: a melange in Vienna, served with a small biscuit and a tiny glass of cold water to clean the palate. Civilized in the extreme.
Yeah, but the problem with melange is that it's addictive and turns your eyes blue. Also ridiculously expensive, between the monopoly and the interstellar shipping. Not really sure that's worth it for a good cup of coffee.
