A/N: I know I haven’t updated this in a very long time... I was reminded of this when I wrote the prologue for Senbonzakura. Truthfully I’ve written a few series (including Across Generation), but I haven’t had the time to post them up because I got stuck.  However, I like the idea of Senbonzakura, so yeah...

Anyway, enjoy!  SoM and LL are still on hold, but I’ll try to finish this up soon :D and for those of you who still remember about Life in Soul Society (I don’t know when the last time I updated it was), the last chapter will come up soon.  Hopefully *bricked*

I’m feeling extra nice so I’m posting this up today :D I don’t think I’ll be able to write anything tonight, though.  Am trying to choreo a routine for DBSK’s Mirotic (I don’t have anything else to do >_>)

Chapter Eighteen - Desperation

“Jae?” Donghae called as he stood up from the couch he was sitting on then walked towards the kitchen.  “Could you please gather those who lost their voices?  I have a friend who’s taking Medicine.  He will come over to have a look at them.”

“Right,” Jaejoong said as he walked out of the kitchen and to Yoosu’s room where they were gathered, playing card games because they didn’t need much talking.

“Guys, can you please come out to the living room?  Someone is coming to take a look at your throats,” Jaejoong said as he walked in and almost stepped onto Yoochun’s leg.  “Hey, I told you not to lie down near the door.  What if I hit you with the door?”

“Sorry,” Yoochun mouthed, and quickly put his cards into the pile, urging the others to do so.

“Hey, you did that just because you were losing!” Heechul protested as his cards were taken from his hands and thrown into the pile in the center.

Jaejoong sweat-dropped.  Maybe it wasn’t the right time to go in.

“Jae,” Yunho mouthed as he turned Jaejoong to face him.  Over the night, Jaejoong had mastered the art of reading lips as he was able to communicate with those who lost their voices well.  “Are you still feeling bad?”

“Well, how can I not?” Jaejoong asked, frowning.  “It was supposed to be only me, but instead, the four of you-“

“Shush,” Yunho mouthed, placing a finger on Jaejoong’s lips.  “Don’t say anymore.  You’re hurting us more than this does if you keep it up.  You know we love you.”

“Yeah,” Jaejoong mumbled lowly.  “Anyway, let’s go now.  Donghae-shii’s friend should be here anytime soon.”

And just as they walked into the living room, they saw a young man sitting on the couch.

“Hey,” Donghae greeted them.  “This is Kim Kibum, my friend who’s taking Medicine.  I asked him to come here to take a look at your throats.”

“Shall we start?” Kibum asked, smiling at them.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“It’s nothing serious,” Kibum concluded as he turned off his small flashlight and put it in his coat pocket.  “It’s just an infection.  It’ll go away in about a week and you’ll be able to talk like normal.”

“A week?” Jaejoong asked hopefully.  “They’ll be able to recover fast?  There will be no side effects?”

“No,” Kibum confirmed.  “There’s no side effects.  It’s just swollen.  Once it gets back to normal, everything will be fine.  You don’t have to worry about them too much.”

“Thank goodness it’s nothing serious,” Jaejoong said in relief as part of his guilt lifted.  Knowing that they wouldn’t lose their voice permanently helped him feel better a great deal.

“Kibum-shii,” Yunho called (mouthed) as he waved at Kibum.  “Can you please make mine heal in under a week?”

“Yunho!” Jaejoong shouted, appalled at the request.  “No!  You don’t have to!  I’ll do it myself or with Seven-hyung!”

“No,” Yunho insisted.  “I promised to help you and I will do it.  I am a man of words.”

“But you said you’ll do whatever I ask of you!  Then I ask you not to force yourself!” Jaejoong begged, holding onto Yunho’s shirt.  “I don’t want this, Yunho.”

“But I do,” Yunho said calmly, holding onto Jaejoong’s hand.  “I will do whatever you ask one by one.  You already asked me to do a duet with you, and I will do that.”

“I can do it,” Kibum intervened.  “However, it is not good for your throat.  You will take longer to recover from the sore throat if you do this.”

“It’s alright,” Yunho insisted.  “I’ll do it.”

“If you say so.  I will be back tomorrow with the medicine,” Kibum said, bowed at them, and excused himself, walking out of the apartment unit with Donghae.

Tears streamed down Jaejoong’s cheeks as he hit Yunho’s chest repeatedly.  “You’re a liar!  I hate you!” he shouted and ran towards his shared room with Yunho.

“Yunho,” Donghae said as he walked back into the apartment unit.  “Is he okay?”

“He’s just worried,” Yunho said simply.  “He doesn’t like burdening others, and he doesn’t want anyone to take risks because of him.  That’s just the way he is.”

“Wait,” Donghae asked as he frowned.  “Can you repeat that slower?  I’m not Jaejoong you know.  I don ‘t get what you’re talking about.”

Yunho looked at him.  “I’m going to talk to Jaejoong.”

“Fine, ignore me like that,” Donghae huffed, but looked worriedly at Yunho’s figure that disappeared behind the door.  “I hope you’ll be able to console him.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Jaejoongie,” Yunho mouthed as he placed his hand on Jaejoong’s shoulder, tugging at it slightly.

“Go away!  I don’t want to talk to you!” Jaejoong shouted, throwing his pillow at Yunho.  However angry he was, he couldn’t bring himself to hurt Yunho.

“Baby,” Yunho called, pulling Jaejoong into a hug.  “You know I don’t want to hurt you, right?”

“Then why did you do that!?” Jaejoong demanded.

“This is my own choice,” Yunho said.  “I want to do something for you because you’ve done a lot for me.”

“But-“

“It’s not like I’m going to lose my voice permanently, right?” Yunho asked, smiling slightly.  “It’s just that I’ll take longer than them to recover, and that’s all.  There’s no side effect, Jaejoongie.  Didn’t he say so?”

“Well, but-“

“Don’t you want to hear my voice again?” Yunho asked.  “To hear me whisper sweet talks to you, lulling you to sleep with ‘I love you’s...”

“But... but then you would lose your voice again, and for a longer period,” Jaejoong sobbed.  “I don’t want to lose your voice any longer, Yunho.”

“Jaejoongie, this is for you and for myself,” Yunho said, stroking Jaejoong’s hair.  “You understand, right?”

“I don’t want to,” Jaejoong said, looking away.

Yunho smiled.  He held Jaejoong’s chin with his hand and turned him so they were face to face.  “Do you know how much I love you?”

Jaejoong stayed silent.

“So, so much,” Yunho mouthed, and pulled Jaejoong forward to kiss him.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The next day, as promised, Kibum came with the medicine to make Yunho regain his voice in under a week.  He told Yunho to be careful and not to strain his vocal cord too much because it could cause premature loss of voice, and that afterwards, it would usually take ten to fourteen days to recover.

“We’ll be careful,” Jaejoong said as he accepted the bottle gratefully.  He looked at Yunho vengefully while Yunho just grinned at him.

“What’s wrong?” Donghae asked.

“Yunho-hyung told Jae-nuna to feed him the medicine, because he was the one who opposed this idea the most,” Changmin said, looking martyred.  “That guy...  he really doesn’t know when to give up, does he?”

Donghae just shook his head.  How very Yunho to force those who don’t want it to do something.

Then again, he was really thankful the two found each other, because they understood each other so well.
