A/N: this piece is inspired by what really happened today. There was a downpour from the morning to afternoon, and the area around my school was flooded. I was picked up by my father and we walked through the flood, though. A really interesting experience-and a disastrous one at that-that I won’t forget in the near future.
This is an AU fic, with Asian school system (the students stay in a class and the teachers change, so they don’t walk around the school building to classrooms), and Yunho’s older than the other four by about two years. You’ll see why later *winks*
Anyway, enjoy~! ^______^
Stuck in a School
“Phew, the rain looks bad,” Junsu commented randomly as he looked out of the window during break time. Jaejoong was standing beside him, watching as the flood slowly rise up since the morning, when it was still about at ankle height at the outer area of their school, which was a good fifteen centimeters lower than the inner part of the school area.
Now, the inner part was flooded and the water reached the ankles of students who walked towards the canteen and the computer laboratory, which was a different building from the main building.
“It doesn’t look bad,” Yoochun frowned as he looked up from his notebook to stare at the rain outside. “It is bad,” he added before Junsu could say anything and sighed heavily.
“At this rate, we’ll get stuck in school,” Changmin butted in suddenly and Jaejoong frowned.
“Don’t be pessimistic, Min,” Jaejoong shook his head. “Although the students have started to move their cars to higher place…” he mumbled as he saw the students taking advantage of the break time to move their cars.
“You’re trying to convince yourself,” Junsu shook his head as he patted Jaejoong’s shoulder. “I suggest you tell him to not drive his car here. It would be disaster. He’ll thank me for that advice later,” he added with a grin.
“Then why don’t you call him yourself?” Jaejoong snorted, but took out his cell phone anyway. Checking his watch, he decided it was okay to call since it was class break for him too.
“Hello?” a voice asked from the other side of the line.
“Uh, hello,” Jaejoong stammered out a little. He was very familiar with the voice, but he was a little surprised at the shift from the dial tone to the deep, manly voice.
“What’s wrong, Jae? Are you sick?”
“No!” Jaejoong shouted a little too quickly and he blushed as his classmates all stared at him. Why did every time he call him, that question would be the first to be asked?
“No, ah, I’m calling you to tell you that you shouldn’t drive here to pick me up later.”
“It’s raining,” the other person said. “Is your school flooded?”
“Yes…”
“I’ll come over later.”
“But-”
“I won’t come over by car if that’s what you want, but I’m still picking you up.”
“Oh, okay,” Jaejoong smiled lightly. “Thank you.”
“No worries. Anything for you, right?”
Jaejoong laughed, but quickly shut up when Junsu and Yoochun stood on his left and right, making kissy noises.
“What-”
“It’s just the idiot kids! I’ll see you after school! Bye Yunho!” Jaejoong shouted in panic as he hung up and glared at Junsu and Yoochun, who in turn merely grinned at him.
“Hey! I’m not making that noise too!” Changmin protested as he frowned and pouted, his assignment momentarily forgotten.
“Then you’re saying you’re one of the “idiot kids”?”
“…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“The weather’s getting worse,” Junsu commented off-handedly as he stared out of the window. His seat was right next to the window so he could see the rain clearly.
“I can see that,” Jaejoong replied as he bit the blunt end of his pencil in anxiety. It was still two hours before school was let out, and about another hour before Yunho’s classes for the day ended.
“Stop eating your pencil. Yunho’s going to freak out if he knows,” Yoochun reminded as he looked back.
The four of them were seated in a square, with Junsu at the lower left, Yoochun at the upper left, Changmin at the upper right, and Jaejoong at the lower right.
“I’m not eating my pencil!” Jaejoong protested and the teacher glared at them. “Sorry, Mrs. Han,” he mumbled as he looked down at his Chemistry textbook.
The other students of the school had gone home because the flood was getting worse. The school gave them permission to go home only if someone had picked them up, and by now, a lot of the students were gone already.
“I’m amazed that you four are still in this class, actually,” Mrs. Han commented as she looked around the empty class, sans the four boys sitting at the back corner of the class. “But if you’re not going to learn anything, I might as well leave now.”
“We’re sorry Mrs. Han,” Changmin said quickly. “It’s not that we don’t want to learn. We’re just worried about the one picking us up,” he added.
“Oh? You four are going home together?” Mrs. Han asked, suddenly interested in the topic as her mood to teach was gone.
“Yes, we live very near to each other, with Jaejoong’s house at the end of the line,” Yoochun explained.
Somehow, Jaejoong had a bad feeling this was going somewhere he didn’t like.
“And who picks you up? Mr. Kim’s parents?” Mrs. Han asked again. It was the most logical thing she could come up with since they ended at Jaejoong’s house.
“No, it’s Jaejoong’s fiancé,” Changmin grinned and suddenly a thick chemistry textbook hit the back of his head, causing him to lurch forward and yelp in pain and surprise.
“Your fiancé? You’re already engaged?” Mrs. Han asked, her eyes widening a little at the mention. “Aren’t you somewhat too young to be engaged?”
“I thought someone can only be too young to be married,” Changmin mumbled as he nursed his abused head and took hostage of Jaejoong’s textbook. “Many people are actually engaged from birth.”
“Oh,” Mrs. Han nodded her head in understanding. “So, how long have you been engaged? And who’s your fiancé?”
Jaejoong blinked his eyes in disbelief. Here they were with their chemistry teacher, discussing his fiancé.
“They’re engaged from three years ago, I believe,” Junsu answered for Jaejoong as he looked like he wasn’t going to be able to speak soon. “Their families are friends from a long time ago, so their parents decided to pair off their children.”
Yoochun laughed while Jaejoong kicked his seat forcefully, almost making him topple over.
“Ah, Jae’s so violent whenever Yunho’s being talked about,” Yoochun grinned as he scooted his seat away so Jaejoong’s foot wouldn’t reach it.
“Is that the name?” Mrs. Han inquired as she looked at Jaejoong and Yoochun, lifting her brow.
“Yes,” Jaejoong sighed in defeat. There was no way he was getting out of this, since the other three weren’t going to answer for him now. Those kids. “His name is Jung Yunho.”
Just then a sneeze was heard from outside and Jaejoong had a very bad feeling. He looked at the clock and frowned. “It can’t be him,” he thought to himself as the door slid open.
“Must be someone talking about me…” the figure trailed off as he slid the door open, and then stepped inside. “Excuse me, Mrs. Han. I’m here to pick those three and Jaejoong up.”
“Oh my goodness,” Jaejoong shrunk back, willing for the floor to open up and swallow him whole. Why did everyone seem to go against him now?
Mrs. Han nearly squealed at the sight of the tall man standing in front of her, smiling slightly as he looked at her and the four boys seated at the back. The three protested at being addressed by “those three” instead of their names, but it went unheeded.
“Are you Jung Yunho?” she asked, her eyes nearly sparkling in excitement.
Yunho blinked, and looked at the four. Yoochun looked away and whistled innocently, Changmin went back to his assignment, Junsu busied himself with his book bag and Jaejoong blushed slightly while looking down.
“So that explains why I sneezed,” Yunho thought to himself. “Yes, I am.”
Mrs. Han, who was still quite young, squealed again and jumped up and down excitedly. “My gosh! You look so good! Are you still in college?” she asked again.
“Yes,” Yunho answered firmly and he looked at the four again, who were still doing the same things except Jaejoong who was now hiding under the desk in embarrassment.
“Aw, Mr. Kim is so lucky to have you,” she giggled and Yunho looked accusingly at the three who still tried to look innocent. “But you’re lucky to have him too. He’s so nice and helpful.”
Yunho chuckled slightly as he watched Jaejoong squirm under the desk and cover his face with his hands, muttering something like “They’re not talking about me” over and over.
“I guess I am,” Yunho answered with a charming smile. “Now, if you would excuse us…”
“Oh! Yes, yes, please, I advise you all to go quickly,” Mrs. Han turned to the four quickly. “The outer part of the school will be impossible to cross soon.”
The four nodded their heads and got up from their seats. The school was nearly empty because all the students were gone, and the teachers were staying in a dorm building near the main building. Mrs. Han excused herself and went straight to the dorm, which was connected to the main building by a bridge.
“So that left us five,” Yunho mumbled. “I guess this class is comfortable enough to sleep in.”
The four looked at him in confusion and alarm as they raised their eyebrows questioningly.
“The water outside already reached my chest when I came. Why else would my clothes be wet? I don’t think we can pass now,” Yunho shrugged as he pointed outside the window.
Junsu looked down and noted that the water had gotten into the first floor of the building. “He’s right. Short people like us won’t be able to pass,” he sighed dejectedly as he slung an arm over Jaejoong’s shoulder and Jaejoong huffed defiantly.
“If it’s that high, then why did you come in the first place?” Jaejoong asked as soon as Yunho sat on the seat beside his. He noted that Yunho wasn’t wearing his shoes either.
“Because you’re here?” Yunho shrugged.
“Right, place all the blame on me,” Jaejoong snorted and glared defensively at him.
Yunho laughed and flicked Jaejoong’s forehead. “No, you silly. I meant I came here because I wanted to see you,” he said with a grin. “You said you’d see me after school, didn’t you?”
“Yes… but isn’t this…”
“Too early? Classes were let out early today because of the rain,” Yunho answered before Jaejoong had the chance to finish his question. “You didn’t really think I’d skip classes, did you?”
Jaejoong smiled slightly. “Yea… you’re too responsible to do that,” he nodded his head approvingly. “But you could’ve notified me sooner!”
“I called you. I’m guessing the battery died,” Yunho pointed out as he pulled out his cell phone and showed Jaejoong his call history. Jaejoong quickly took out his cell and groaned.
“Do you have a spare battery with you?” he asked, pouting lightly. “If not, I’m borrowing yours to call Mom.”
“I always bring a spare one with me, in case this happens,” Yunho answered with a grin and ducked to evade Jaejoong’s flying notebook. “You didn’t charge your cell everyday, anyway, even after I told you to.”
“Well, sorry then!” Jaejoong muttered as he accepted the notebook Yunho returned and then asked Changmin to return his textbook.
Yunho handed him a battery and watched as Jaejoong changed his with the new one. “By the way, I already called our parents, all of them, to inform them that we’ll be staying here tonight.”
“Aw, you’re so thoughtful, hyung!” Junsu exclaimed as he hugged Yunho gratefully. “You know how noisy my mother can be when she lectures me!”
“As expected from Yunho,” Yoochun grinned and clicked his tongue. “Saved me the trouble too. I guess I should thank you.”
“Yes, you should. Now thank me.”
Yoochun stuck his tongue out playfully at him, and turned to look at Changmin.
“What? Alright, fine. Thanks for telling them in advance. It saves me a great deal of trouble,” he stated rather quickly, but grinned anyway.
“Now, let’s move onto the next problem we have here,” Yoochun suggested, looking at the others seriously.
“We’re stuck in a school building,” Junsu started.
“With a deep flood outside that makes it impossible to cross,” Jaejoong continued.
“Which means we’ll have to stay here at least until tomorrow morning,” Yoochun added.
“And it’s still afternoon now…” Yunho trailed off.
“And that means we have to find food and water supply!”
“What about the school’s kitchen?” Jaejoong asked, looking at the others. “I guess there may still be some food left in there.”
“The school’s kitchen is on the first floor, if you forget,” Yoochun reminded, shaking his head. “If the flood reached Yunho’s chest, it might as well drown you.”
“I’m not that short!” Jaejoong retorted heatedly.
“Anyway, school kitchen is not possible. Any other recommendation?” Changmin cut in before they could start another argument.
“What about the kitchen for teachers? It’s on the third floor,” Junsu suggested. “There’s a big restroom near it too, and I think we can take a bath there.”
“Good idea! I almost forgot about those facilities for teachers,” Yoochun snapped his fingers and patted Junsu’s back. “I’m relieved you have such strong memory. Now, who’s going to check them out?”
“I will,” Jaejoong volunteered. “I’ll see if there’s any food left, and cook dinner if possible.”
“I’ll go check the restroom and see if we can really take a bath there,” Yunho volunteered as well as they both stood up.
“We will stay here and arrange the seats so that we can sleep on the floor.”
“Okay then. We’ll meet up here again later.”
“Yes. Don’t be naughty while we’re not there!” Junsu warned with a grin and Jaejoong tripped over something invisible while Yunho grinned back and waved at him.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“We’re only doing this because we don’t want the water supply to run out,” Jaejoong repeated once again as he heaved a deep sigh and looked at the other four. “Why am I doing this again?”
“Oh, c’mon! Taking a bath together is supposed to be fun!” Junsu whined as he tugged on Jaejoong’s arm, tugging him towards one of the bigger stalls in the restroom.
“This is so not my idea of fun!” Jaejoong screamed as a bucket of water was splashed towards him, drenching him from head to toe, while he was still in his clothes.
“Aw, c’mon! Taking a bath together is not so bad!” Junsu added, and he was splashed with water too by Yoochun. They were currently having a water fight in the restroom, and the floor was covered with water.
“To think we did this to ration the water supply,” Changmin sighed in defeat as he watched his two hyperactive and one reluctant hyung run around the restroom.
“You barbarians! Unlike you guys, I didn’t bring my P.E. uniform today, so I have nothing to change into after this!” Jaejoong protested, but it went unheeded as another splash of water was sent his way.
“Hey, where’s Yunho?” Junsu asked suddenly, noticing the disappearance of the other one.
“I’m here!” Yunho answered from inside one of the stalls. The door soon opened to reveal Yunho who had just taken a bath, wearing a pair of boxers.
Jaejoong hid behind Yunho quickly. At least the boys wouldn’t be heartless enough to drench someone who had just changed into a new set of clothes, right?
“Is it too late to join the water fight?” Yunho asked with a grin. “I still have another one in my bag so don’t worry about this one.”
And with that, the two went after Jaejoong with buckets full of water again while Changmin watched in amusement from the sidelines and Yunho was holding Jaejoong in place.
“You traitor!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Ah~ dinner!” Junsu and Changmin exclaimed at the same time as the plates of food were distributed among them. It was a plate of curry rice with some sliced beef and pork.
“As good as ever, Jae,” Yoochun complimented as he shoved a spoonful of the food into his mouth and chewed slowly.
“Thanks,” Jaejoong replied simply as he sat down between Changmin and Yoochun. He took extra care not to spread his legs wide because he was only wearing an over-sized jacket, courtesy of Yunho.
“I’m surprised you guys still actually hire a cook since everyone in your family can cook very well,” Yoochun commented as he swallowed the food and took another spoonful.
“I’m assuming that’s a compliment,” Jaejoong replied. “It’s actually because we don’t feel up to cooking all the time. It’s bothersome, especially when we have a lot of work to do.”
“I know. It takes time to cook, and if you’re not patient enough, it can be very annoying,” Yunho commented as he sighed and shoved another spoonful of food into his mouth.
All four looked at him strangely.
“Since when do you cook???”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“It’s dark.”
“Of course. The lamp is off.”
“I’m talking about the sky.”
“It’s night.”
“You’re annoying.”
“Fine, I’ll go sleep over there.”
“Yah! Don’t you dare!”
Yunho grinned in satisfaction as he settled back on the floor right beside Jaejoong.
“You’re having your fun, aren’t you? Bastard.”
“No, I was born legally,” Yunho shook his head.
“Jerk.”
“I can live with that,” Yunho mumbled as he pulled Jaejoong close. They were lying on the floor, using the curtain from the windows as a mattress and their bags as the pillow.
“The rain’s stopped since evening, right?” Jaejoong stared at the cloudless sky, propping his head on Yunho’s shoulder. “Has the water level decreased yet?”
“I haven’t checked, truthfully,” Yunho admitted. “I suppose we’ll be able to cross it tomorrow.”
“I sure hope so,” Jaejoong mumbled slightly. “I don’t want to spend the weekend at school.”
Yunho chuckled at the remark and tightened his hug. “Yes, of course. I’ll get you out of here tomorrow.”
“Even if the water doesn’t decrease?” Jaejoong raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, and that’s a promise,” Yunho nodded as he pushed Jaejoong back so that they were face to face. “Now go to sleep. You have to wake up early tomorrow to prepare breakfast.”
“Slave driver,” Jaejoong punched Yunho’s arm while Yunho laughed, then snuggled closer to him.
“Aw~ so sweet~!”
“The slave driver loves the other slave driver!”
“Are they the Bossy Couple now?”
“What about the Strange-Bossy-Mostly-Mushy Couple?”
“Shut up and go to sleep!”
“Yes umma!”
End of Stranded
Didn’t turn out as I had wanted, as usual. I’m actually quite disappointed in this one, but you guys are the one to judge.
The water level reached my waist when I walked out and oh my… I was never more regretful that my city is so dirty. The water was brownish and all kind of trash floated around. I even felt something warm and strange brushing against my legs a few times and I started to think the worst things possible. Not to mention the random dead cockroaches that floated around… eww…
I was thinking that this fic could be inserted into a part of a bigger universe, but I’m not sure. What do you think?
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this.
