Chapter Five - Truths Revealed

“This is it,” Boa said as she stood in front of Yunho and Seven.  “Today is the execution day.  We better go over to the execution grounds quick.”

“Right,” the two said, and the three rushed off to the grounds.  Kibum and the other three had gone off first to meet up with the other captains and vice-captains because they were still going to train for a few more minutes.

As they neared the grounds, they suddenly stopped as a figure jumped up in front of them, blocking the way with her sword.

“Seulgi,” Boa said as she looked at Seulgi sternly.  “Long time no see.”

“indeed,” Seulgi said.  “Ever since that day you left without saying anything,” she added, glaring at Boa.  “I’m not going to let you pass.”

“Go,” Boa urged Seven and Yunho.  “I’ll take care of her.  You two have to go save him.”

Yunho and Seven looked at Boa almost doubtfully, but when she urged them again, they finally rushed off.

“So now, it’s only you and me,” Seulgi said, activating her sankai.  “Let’s see if you’d like my bankai.”

Boa smirked.  “Let us see, then.”

“Jae,” Eeteuk called as he looked into the prison tower.  “Come on,” he said, taking Jaejoong’s hand in his, and leading him to the execution grounds, which wasn’t very far away.

Jaejoong looked forward, and sighed softly.  “Will I see the Phoenix?”

“Yes you will,” Eeteuk confirmed.  “No one has seen the Phoenix for a long time now.  It’s rarely unsealed.”

“I see,” Jaejoong nodded.  “Let’s go then.  I don’t want to make them wait.”

Eeteuk smiled sadly, and nodded.  “Yes, won’t want to make them wait.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Where the hell are we!?” Yunho shouted in frustration as he looked around in the dense forest.  “You!  If you don’t know the way, then don’t lead!”

“How am I supposed to know we’re going to get lost!?” Seven shouted back at him.  “I was sure it was this way!”

“Aish,” Yunho grumbled.  “I won’t accept it if my days of rigorous training went to waste just because we’re late!”

“Me too, idiot!” Seven grumbled back.  “Don’t just stand there!  Make yourself useful and find the way out!”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“The execution is starting,” Hankyung mumbled to himself as he watched the cover of the lance taken off.  It then stood proudly on the edge of the execution grounds, pointing upwards, and held down by ropes that could only be untied by captains of the divisions.

“I better hurry,” he said to himself, and froze in his tracks when he saw someone walking towards him.

“This can’t be…” Hankyung’s eyes widened.  “You…”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Jaejoong stepped under the huge wooden torii gate, and stone blocks moved to positions behind him.  His hands were pulled onto two, and his feet were onto another one.  Slowly, the stones moved upwards, and he was lifted along with them.

“It’s so high up here,” he commented to himself as he watched the others slowly becoming a blur in the distance.  He watched as the ropes to the lance were untied, and spirit energy burst from the lance, nearly throwing him away if not for the stones.

Everyone watched as the lance floated, and pointed straight at Jaejoong.  For a moment, it transformed into a mighty fire Phoenix, and it was back to its lance form after it let out a loud, deafening cry.

Eeteuk looked up in worry.  “Please hurry…” he mumbled to himself as he frowned.

Jaejoong sighed, and closed his eyes, trying to relax as he felt heat radiating from the lance.  Kibum had said that Shinigamis who were stabbed by the lance evaporated and vanished just like that in a second, so it should be painless.

He cracked an eye open to look at the lance, and saw it shooting at him.  He scrunched his eyes close as he winced slightly, but suddenly a loud noise was heard.  The noise of metal against metal.

“Scared?”

Jaejoong’s eyes snapped wide open, and he saw Yunho in front of him, his back to the lance as he held his huge sword behind him, blocking the lance.

“Yunho!” Jaejoong exclaimed in surprise.  “What are you doing here?”

“Saving you, of course,” Yunho said calmly.  “Sorry I’m late.  Your friend over there,” he rolled his eyes as he motioned at Seven, “got us lost.”

And in an instant, the whole grounds was thrown into a state of chaos.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“You,” Hankyung frowned.  “Aren’t you already dead?”

Shiwon chuckled as he stopped a few feet away from him.  “How naïve, Captain Hankyung,” he said with an amused smirk.  “Have you forgotten that my bankai is to create an illusion that could fool everyone?”

Hankyung’s eyes widened in realization.  “Bastard!” he shouted as he drew out his sword.  “You framed Jae, and you made Heechul worry for nothing!”

“Ah, Heechul,” Shiwon nodded.  “He’s very obedient.  I was hoping he’d kill Jae for me actually, but I guess he wasn’t fit enough to do that job.  Tsk, tsk, what a waste.  He’s now a useless pawn.”

Hankyung gripped his sword’s handle tighter, feeling anger boiling inside of him.  “And you… also are the one behind this execution?”

“Of course,” Shiwon almost sneered at him.  “Has it finally gotten through your thick head?  I wanted something Jaejoong has.  The only way to get it is by killing him off.  Although, I have devised another plan in case he doesn’t die.”

“What did you do to the Board?” Hankyung glared.

“I killed them all,” Shiwon shrugged nonchalantly.  “They didn’t agree to sentence Jaejoong to death, so I killed them, and made the decision on their behalf.”

Hankyung gritted his teeth.  “You will pay for this.”

“Oh, will I?” Shiwon asked, smirking unnervingly.

“Even if it’s not because of us, you still will,” Heechul said as he stepped out from behind a building, and drew out his sword from the sheath.  “I’m taking over your position as captain of the Fifth Division.”

“Heechul?” Hankyung looked at him in surprise.  “You were there?”

“Yes,” Heechul nodded.  “Don’t let your guards down.  He’s strong.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“It has started,” Seulgi commented as she held onto her sword, then turned to Boa.  “How does it feel, Boa-shii?  To be seconds away from your death.”

Boa panted, and grinned at her.  Three seals were already on her body.  One of her upper right arm, one on her lower left leg, and another near her left eye.

“What do you think?” Boa asked, gripping onto her sword as well.  She hadn’t expected for Seulgi’s bankai to be this deadly.  Every strike of her sword would cause a seal to appear, and if the seal were hit once more, the one with the seal on would die right there and then.

And the only way to erase the seals was to defeat Seulgi.

“Knowing you,” Seulgi started, “I think you might say it’s thrilling.”

Boa snorted, and smirked.  “You know me too well.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Hankyung,” Heechul called as he kneeled beside Hankyung.  “Are you okay?”

“More or less,” Hankyung grunted.  “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Heechul shrugged.  “That was a dummy made from water to fool him.”

“He’s going to the execution grounds,” Hankyung frowned.  “He knows the execution is stopped,” he added, looking at the lance that stopped at mid-air.

“That’s right,” Heechul nodded, and turned around to the building he came out from.  “Captain Sungmin, can you take care of Hankyung?” he asked.

Sungmin stepped out from behind the building with Kyuhyun.  “Of course,” he said.  “Kyuhyun, go with Heechul to the execution grounds.  Use a communication spell to alert everyone in Soul Society about this.  I suspect he’s not alone in this plan.”

“Right away,” Kyuhyun nodded, and he rushed to the execution grounds with Heechul, while performing the communication spell.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Attentions, to all Shinigami and non-Shinigami in the Soul Society,” Kyuhyun’s voice echoed throughout the whole place.  “I have an announcement to make.”

“Just now, we have seen that Captain Choi Shiwon is actually still alive, and he’s the one behind everything.  He killed off the Board because they didn’t agree to sentence Jaejoong to death.  He is now on his way to the execution grounds, and therefore, we ask for your cooperation to protect Jaejoong at all cost.  He wants something from him, and we can’t let him have it.”

“We suspect he’s not alone in this plan, and that someone else is with him, but we don’t know who.  All captains and vice-captains who wished to help should gather in the execution grounds right away, and let the lance be re-sealed.  We won’t need it anymore.”

Shiwon stopped for a while when he heard the announcement, and smirked.

Rain stood beside him, and grinned.  “This is going to be fun.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Everyone, re-seal the lance!” Eeteuk ordered, and six captains quickly went to re-seal the lance, and cover it up with the cloth.

Boa and Seulgi came to the execution grounds as well.  Boa had somehow defeated Seulgi-she was her mentor after all-and the seals disappeared from her body.

Yunho brought Jaejoong down, and Eeteuk, Kangin, Junki, Seven, Kibum, Boa, Changmin, Junsu, and Yoochun quickly went over to them.

“Are you alright?” Kibum asked as he checked Jaejoong for any physical injuries.

“Yes I am,” Jaejoong nodded.  “I’m sorry for making you worry.”

“No, no, it’s my fault,” Kibum shook his head regretfully.  “If I hadn’t given you the crystal, none of this would have happened.”

“It’s okay,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “But, can you grant me a wish?”

“What is it?” Kibum frowned.

“Lend me your sword.  I’m not going to just stand there and do nothing,” Jaejoong said determinedly.  “I will fight back.”

Kibum looked at Jaejoong, and finally lent him his sword.  “Take care,” he said.  “You might not be able to sankai or bankai with that sword.”

“I know,” Jaejoong smiled a little at him.  “It’s okay.”

Shiwon and Rain arrived at the execution grounds, and everyone surrounded them.

“Whoa, what a warm welcome from everyone,” Shiwon commented as he looked around.  “However, I have no business with any of you, only with Jaejoong.”

“We’re not going to let you get near him,” Eeteuk said as he glared at Shiwon.

“Let us see about that,” Shiwon smirked, and suddenly the prison where all Hollows were kept was breached, and the Hollows all escaped, creating a ruckus in Soul Society.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“What happened!?” Hankyung asked in alarm when Hollows suddenly attacked them.

“I’m not sure, but it looks like Shiwon breached the prison,” Sungmin frowned.

“Step back, Captain Sungmin,” Hankyung got up and took his sword.  “I will deal with them.”

And an ice dragon materialized beside him, roaring loudly as it shot forward and attacked all Hollows in sight.
