A/N: a birthday fic for Yunho :D I originally intended to write another LL one-shot, but decided against it since I feel like writing with LaO casts :3

This has nothing to do with the cases, but I’m going to make a referral to a previous chapter

If there is anything you’re wondering about, feel free to tell me :3 unless it’s going to be revealed in a later case, I will try my best to write the side-story on it :D

Interlude Two - Birthday Boy (Refer to Case Two)

One morning, Yunho woke up with a heavy feeling at the pit of his stomach, as if the brain there was trying to scream out “bad omen!” at him.  He tried to calm himself down, saying that nothing was going to be wrong, and proceeded into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

After all, the heavy feeling was different from the one he got during that one hit and run case.  And for that, he was eternally grateful.

“Morning,” he greeted as he walked into the dining room and sat down, reaching over for the morning paper on the table.  He paused and looked up when he heard no reply.  “Jae?”

“What?” Jaejoong snapped irritably as he placed a plate full of fried eggs on the table.  “Eat up,” he barked out, and went back to the kitchen to prepare a cup of tea.

“Uh… is there something wrong?” Yunho asked nervously.  He had never seen this part of Jaejoong, and he thought he was pestering the other guy enough.  Maybe not so.

“No,” Jaejoong huffed out, placed a cup in front of Yunho, and went back to the kitchen again.  “I’m busy.  Don’t call me.”

Yunho blinked, looked at the cup, back at Jaejoong, and blinked again.  “What the heck is happening?” he frowned as he opened the newspaper, and started reading it, his mind still wondering about why Jaejoong was acting all grumpy.

It wasn’t that time of the month, was it?

Or did the feminine man suddenly have mood swings?

The endless possibilities filled his head, and he couldn’t even concentrate on the article he was trying to read.  He feared that if he tried to solve a case, he would misjudge something and ended up arresting an innocent person.

His phone suddenly rang, and he fished it out.  “Yeoboseyo?”

“Oh, hyung, I can’t come today, had to take a break, sorry,” Changmin said hurriedly, and suddenly the line was dead.  Yunho looked at his phone, wondering if the call was his imagination or not, and wondered what was wrong with everyone that day.

He looked at the calendar.  February 5.  There was nothing special on that day, was there?

“I’m going next door,” Jaejoong announced, breaking his train of thought.  “Go wherever you want,” he added, and walked out of their apartment, into Yoosu’s.

Yunho watched him walk off, and sighed to himself.  He picked up his fork, and started eating the breakfast Jaejoong had prepared.  At least he was still worried enough to prepare him meals.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The day was pretty uneventful for one Jung Yunho.  After breakfast, he had gone back to his room to play with his laptop, waiting for any request that might come.  Since Changmin couldn’t come, he felt lazy to actually go to the office, so he stayed home while keeping an eye on his inbox.

None came, though, and he resorted to playing games on his laptop.  Old games such as Solitaire and Minesweeper, those that made his brain go dead at the twentieth minute of play.

“Aish, what’s wrong with everyone!?” he grumbled to himself as he rolled around on his bed, pulling his hair in frustration, but not hard enough to actually pull them out.

He had tried contacting Changmin, but he was always greeted by the same female operator voice that announced the start of voicemail recording.  He had tried going next door to Yoosu’s apartment, but the two had ignored him, just like Jaejoong did, while Jaejoong himself was missing inside that apartment.

Which made him wonder if Jaejoong was actually a descendant of a ninja, for being able to disappear inside such a small place.

Jaejoong had, of course, come back to their apartment at noon to prepare lunch for him, and then disappear again to Yoosu’s apartment.  He was back now, to prepare dinner, but Yunho was sure in a matter of time, he would disappear again.

He accidentally rolled off the bed while rolling around, and fell down quite hard, making him wince in pain.  “Ouch…” he groaned as he held the back of his head and rubbed it slightly, trying to lessen the pain.  “BooJae…” he mumbled pitifully.  Normally, Jaejoong would come in an instant, checking if he was injured badly.

This time, however, it didn’t happen.

Fighting the urge to cry his eyes out, he climbed back onto his bed, and buried his face in his pillow.  Yes, private investigator Jung Yunho, who everyone saw as strong, manly, confident, and independent, was actually very weak when it came to his lover.

“What did I do wrong?” he mumbled to himself, screwing his eyes shut, and soon after, fell asleep.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Yunho,” a voice said softly, and Yunho looked up to be greeted by an angel.  “Why are you crying?”

“I don’t know,” Yunho shook his head, and looked down.  The angel landed in front of him, and hugged him.

“You hit your head quite bad there,” the angel said, looking up at him.  “Here, let me take care of it,” he added, and placed a cool hand on the back of Yunho’s head.

Yunho sighed in bliss, and snuggled closer to the angel, savoring the feel of hugging him close.  “BooJae,” he said, “what did I do wrong?”

The angel smiled as he pushed Yunho back slightly.  “You did nothing wrong, Yunho.  Don’t cry.  Didn’t you promise to look after me?  You can’t do that if you cry.”

“Yeah… I guess you’re right,” Yunho smiled at him.  “Thank you.”

“It’s alright… as long as you’re okay,” the angel said, and tears started to stream down his cheeks.  “Forgive me for what I did.  I love you.  Don’t ever forget that.”

“Boo?  Why are you crying?” Yunho asked as he reached out, but the angel flew away from him.  “Jaejoong-ah!”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Yunho snapped his eyes wide open, and sighed in relief when he realized that it was only a dream.  He reached out, and noticed there was an ice pack put on his head.

“Yunho?  You’re awake?”

Yunho looked at the clock, and at the source of voice.  It was one in the morning, and the lights were out, but he could tell who it was.  “Jae…?”

“Yeah,” Jaejoong said as he walked over, and sat on the edge of the bed.  “Is your head okay now?”

“Yah, don’t talk as if I’m a crazy,” Yunho protested as he pouted, and Jaejoong laughed.  “Jae… have you been crying?”

“Eh?  What made you think so?” Jaejoong asked as he quickly reached his hands up to wipe his eyes.

“Jae… that just gave away the fact that you have…” Yunho almost sweat-dropped, but then he remembered his dream.  “You know, what were you trying to do?  I… I met you, in an angel form, in my dreams.  And you cried, while asking my forgiveness.”

“Is that so?” Jaejoong asked, sighing as he rested his head on Yunho’s shoulder.  “Come with me.”

“Eh?  You’re finally going to let me do it?” Yunho raised an eyebrow, and Jaejoong hit his arm hard.  “Ow, you know, you still can’t take that kind of joke…”

“Serves you right,” Jaejoong huffed, and stood up.  “Come here,” he motioned, and Yunho followed him, into the dark living room.

He was about to ask Jaejoong what he wanted to show him, when the light suddenly turned on, and loud noises were heard as trumpets were blown.  He looked around, and noticed Yoochun, Junsu, and Changmin standing in their living room, and on the table, was a huge birthday cake.

“What-“

“Happy birthday, Yunnie,” Jaejoong mumbled as he hugged Yunho from behind, burying his face into YUnho’s back.  “I wanted to give you a surprise, and also, paying you back for what you did to me that time-when you tricked me into thinking you called the police to arrest him.”

“Ah… that…” Yunho laughed uneasily.  “Um… so-“

“We were busy preparing this, and a feast,” Junsu explained.  “It was Jaejoong-hyung’s idea, and we decided to help.  He wanted only the best for you.”

“I know,” Yunho said as he placed his hands on top of Jaejoong’s, and turned around to face the smaller man.  “But you know, you shouldn’t have done that.  I nearly got a heart attack.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” Jaejoong sighed.  “I’m sorry for not checking on you right away.  I’m sorry for-“

He was cut off when Yunho suddenly leaned down to capture his lips in a sweet, chaste kiss.  “Apology accepted, Angel.  Let us just enjoy this day.”

Jaejoong looked at him, and smiled.  “Whatever you want, Birthday Boy.”

End of Birthday Boy
