Summary: Life has never been easy for one Kim Jaejoong. He fell in love with the one who saved him from falling a year back, but only knew his name. After he met the person, the person thought he liked his good friend instead. Why did Lady Luck seem to hate him so much?
Disclaimer: I don’t own anything except the bizarre idea, not even the title
A/N: at first, I really didn’t have any intention on elaborating what really happened at the coffee shop between Yunjae… but I think there’s a need to explain what happened… at least
Aish… I’m going on a field trip to a forest tomorrow. I’m not really excited about it… especially because there are still wild animals there and I hate wild animals with a passion (although there are some friends of mine who hate domestic animals -_-;;) and argh… I’m babbling… I’m sorry~
Chapter Four - The Competition
“So, what do you want to do?” Jaejoong asked, stirring his glass of caramel macchiato. “He’s not coming. But I can’t go back yet, or Junsu will question me.”
Yunho was doing the same to his cup of coffee. “What do you want to do?” he asked back.
“I asked you first,” Jaejoong sipped his macchiato. “And it’s always been that way, you asking me what I want. You need to be selfish sometimes.”
Yunho laughed. “But you won’t like what I like,” Yunho shook his head, bringing his cup up and taking a sip.
“Try me,” Jaejoong dared, smiling a little as he picked up his fork and started cutting the cheesecake.
“I like gardening and doing jigsaws,” Yunho said almost hesitantly.
“Ooo… you’re quite smart aren’t you?” Jaejoong commented idly, taking a piece of the cheesecake and eating it. “I’ve never succeeded in compiling a jigsaw puzzle before.”
Yunho looked at him, and burst out laughing.
“What?” Jaejoong pouted. “I just wasn’t patient enough, okay? It’s not like I can’t,” he defended himself, shoving another piece to his mouth.
“No,” Yunho shook his head, still laughing. “It was just… I didn’t expect your reaction, is all.”
“Oh?” Jaejoong lifted an eyebrow, sipping his macchiato. “What did you expect then?”
“I rarely tell people what I like, because whenever I do, they always say,” Yunho paused, cleared his throat, and said, “But that’s the hobbies of old people!” in a slightly shrill voice.
This time it was Jaejoong’s turn to burst out laughing.
“Who was that?” Jaejoong asked, wiping his tears away.
“The storekeeper who sold me flower seeds,” Yunho shrugged. “She asked why I bought the seeds, and that was her reaction when I explained it to her.”
Jaejoong nodded sympathetically. “Well, sucks to be you,” he said, grinning a little. “But it’s okay. I think only people with extra patience can do them.”
“I guess,” Yunho nodded thoughtfully, sipping his black coffee again.
“So where are we going after this? Straight to your apartment?” Yunho asked as he placed the cup back on the dish.
“Hm…” Jaejoong mumbled as he chewed on the piece of cheesecake. He picked another one and held it in front of Yunho. “Well… I usually go to music stores or book stores when I don’t have anything to do,” he shrugged.
Yunho ate the offered piece of cake and wondered thoughtfully. “You read books a lot?” he wondered.
“Is that an insult, or a genuine question?” Jaejoong rolled his eyes and ate another piece, scraping the spilled blueberry jam on the plate and licking it off the fork.
“Latter, latter,” Yunho waved his hand, and leaned forward to eat another offered piece of cheesecake. “It’s nice.”
“Isn’t it?” Jaejoong laughed. “Hm… well… I don’t read that much, and I use reading glasses when I do. Plus, I don’t have a bad reading habit.”
“You talk like you know what I’m going to ask,” Yunho snickered as he reached over for Jaejoong’s macchiato and took a sip from it. “Isn’t it too sweet?”
“You’re the one who likes bitter things,” Jaejoong pouted, clutching his macchiato defensively, as if it was his son who had been judged badly by someone.
“And about your statement, that’s because I know what you want to ask,” Jaejoong grinned. “It’s my eye sight isn’t it?” he asked back, smiling triumphantly.
“No.”
Jaejoong pouted again. “You’re a sore loser.”
Yunho laughed, ruffling Jaejoong’s hair. “Okay, I’m sorry,” he said. “Finish up, we’re going to a music store nearby after this.”
“Eh? But it was just if I have nothing else to do,” Jaejoong protested.
“Well, do you have anything to do now then?” Yunho asked, lifting an eyebrow.
“Well…,” Jaejoong trailed off. “No.”
“Exactly. I want to buy a new music CD for my brother as well, so don’t worry,” he shrugged.
“Okay.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Welcome home hyung,” Junsu greeted as soon as Jaejoong stepped into the apartment. “How was the hang out?”
“Seven-hyung didn’t show up,” Jaejoong answered sulkily. “He thought I like Yunho and set us up instead.”
Junsu shook his head. “Well, with the way you two are acting, it’s easy to mistake you guys for a couple,” he shrugged.
“Is that so?” Jaejoong wondered.
“Yeah… I mean, you two share a lot of things, and you’re partners,” Junsu shrugged. “Plus, you two have a secret hideout no one else knows of. I don’t know what else to call it if not a couple.”
“Super good friends?” Jaejoong offered helplessly.
Junsu laughed. “Don’t worry. It doesn’t necessarily mean so, right?” he patted Jaejoong’s back sympathetically. “It’s easy to mistake you guys, but don’t worry about it.”
“I guess,” Jaejoong shrugged. “Oh! I went to a music store with Yunho earlier, and see what I found,” he took out a CD from his plastic bag.
“U-Know? Isn’t that Yunho-hyung’s little brother?” Junsu wondered.
“Exactly. I didn’t know he’s a singer,” Jaejoong commented. “I also bought you a copy of Good Charlotte’s album,” he added and gave Junsu the other CD.
“Oh, talking about Yunho-hyung’s little brother,” Junsu started, “I saw an article about him yesterday. Come here and see, you won’t believe it,” he said, and took the magazine from the couch.
Junsu flipped the magazine open to the page where the interview with U-Know was. “Look, here’s U-Know’s boyfriend, Hero.”
“Wha-?” Jaejoong nearly choked when he saw the picture of the two sitting side by side during the interview.
“They look just like you and Yunho-hyung! Only younger,” the last two words were muttered softly.
“I heard that!” Jaejoong whacked Junsu’s head slowly.
“He’s your long-lost twin, hyung,” Junsu giggled as he pointed at Hero again. “Only, he has blond hair.”
“It’s not natural,” Jaejoong rolled his eyes. “And yes, he’s my long lost twin who apparently stayed in my mother’s womb for an additional three years.”
“Aw, stop being so sarcastic,” Junsu slapped Jaejoong’s arm.
“Whatever you say, Su,” Jaejoong shrugged. “I’ll be in my room if you need me.”
“Okay,” Junsu nodded, and quickly tore the seal of the CD case. He took it out and inserted it to the CD player, turning the volume up, but to a bearable volume.
An hour later, he got up from his seat and walked over to Jaejoong’s room, wanting to ask him to start making dinner. However, when he opened the door, all thoughts of dinner flew from his head.
Jaejoong was sleeping on his bed, his blanket pulled up until his chin. His earphones were plugged into his ears and a portable CD player lied beside his pillow, along with the CD case.
Junsu smiled at the sight, and took off the earphones, pulling the blanket upwards and tucked Jaejoong in. He was slightly surprised to hear music still playing from the CD player, but later on learned that the track number four was put on repeat in the CD player.
Junsu shot a look at the CD case and grinned.
“Sleep well, hyung,” he said as he walked out of the room, cackling a little.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Morning!” Jaejoong greeted from the kitchen as he saw Junsu stumbling into the living room and peeking into the kitchen. “Wash up. I’m making breakfast.”
“Are Min and Chun coming over for breakfast?” Junsu asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes.
“They are. I phoned them. They’re on the way here,” Jaejoong said, waving his hand. “Now go wash up.”
“Okay,” Junsu agreed and walked to the bathroom slowly, dragging his feet.
Jaejoong smiled at the sight. He was thankful he met Junsu, because he was cute, a little hyper, and always seemed to lift everyone’s moods up.
Not long after, right after he put all the plates on the dining room, the doorbell rang.
“Coming!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Good morning, Jae,” Seven greeted when he saw Jaejoong walk into the club’s changing room. It was still empty because the other members weren’t asked to come. They would come next week, since today was Friday, and also the day of the competition.
“Good morning hyung,” Jaejoong greeted back, smiling brightly at him.
“Ah, did something good happen yesterday?” Seven asked, grinning a little as he patted Jaejoong’s head and walked over to the lockers with him.
“Well… no, it was as usual,” Jaejoong shrugged and got out his uniform, bow, and arrows.
“Oh? I thought Yunho’s a little on the romantic side,” Seven shrugged. “You know his little brother, the young singer?” he asked.
“Yes. I bought his album yesterday,” Jaejoong nodded, putting his book bag inside his locker and locked it.
“Then you must know that Forgotten features Yunho,” Seven nodded. “It was actually a song he wrote. U-Know forced him to take part in the recording, and that was why it featured him. He’d never do that otherwise.”
“I agree,” Jaejoong nodded thoughtfully. “Yunho’s not the type of person who likes to be known,” he added.
“Yeah,” Seven smiled a little. “But what I was trying to say was… he wrote that song. I mean, that ought to say something right? Did you listen to what they said?”
“I know,” Jaejoong sighed. “I wonder what happened to him. He sounded so depressed.”
“Ah, but you like it anyway,” Seven said, grinning widely.
“Don’t tease me!” Jaejoong whined, and then pouted.
“But it’s true,” Seven shrugged. “His voice is nice anyway.”
“Well… yeah…” Jaejoong nodded hesitantly. “Anyway, I’ll be going. Has Yunho come?” he asked.
“He’s at the outside court,” Seven pointed. “I’ll join you guys soon.”
“Okay,” Jaejoong agreed, and walked to the changing room to change into his uniform, and walk out to the outside court.
“Hey,” Yunho greeted as he watched Jaejoong walk over to him. “How was Good Charlotte?”
“What?” Jaejoong blinked as he looked up at him. “Oh! That was for Junsu!”
“Oh,” Yunho mumbled as he stepped down to the ground. “I’m going to retrieve the arrows first,” he announced, and walked off to the target.
Jaejoong sat down and waited, mulling over what Seven said.
“Who was the one that he left? Was she that important?”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“The competition is today?” Junsu asked as he looked up from his lunch box. “I thought it was tomorrow!”
“Uh… I did say Friday, didn’t I?” Jaejoong asked back, blinking.
“You only told us the date, hyung,” Yoochun pointed out, leaning against the trunk of a big tree.
“Oh,” Jaejoong shrugged. “Careful Chunnie. A worm might fall down into your lunch.”
Yoochun jerked forward in surprise and mock glared at Jaejoong who laughed at him.
“Will you guys come?” Jaejoong asked. “You guys haven’t come to my previous competitions!”
“Well… it was because they were always on Sundays!” Junsu argued. “And Sunday is a sacred day when I’m supposed to sleep until at least noon,” he added, pouting.
“Okay…” Jaejoong trailed off.
“We’ll come,” Changmin said firmly, and turned to look at Yoochun and Junsu. “Right?”
“Right,” Junsu and Yoochun quickly nodded.
“Good,” Changmin smiled. “We’ll come, umma, don’t worry.”
Jaejoong blinked again. “What did you do to them, Min?” he asked hesitantly.
“Oh, nothing,” Changmin smiled innocently. “I didn’t do anything to them.”
“Right…” Jaejoong said disbelievingly. Something must have happened…
“Don’t worry,” Changmin patted Jaejoong’s shoulder. “I suggest you worry about your lunch now, instead,” he added, pointing at his lunch that somehow had miraculously reduced to half.
“Yah! Kim Junsu!”
“I didn’t do it~!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
A girl stood in the girls’ restroom, shaking slightly in fear as she turned the tap and splashed her face with water, trying to get rid of the disturbing images of what had just happened.
“I- I have to tell the others,” she said to herself and walked out of the restroom, wobbling slightly.
-.-.-.-.-. flashback -.-.-.-.-.
The girl was walking down the corridor to her locker. Because there was no morning practice, she came later to school, and was almost late, so her steps were rushed a little.
As soon as she reached the locker, she unlocked it and quickly opened it, only to freeze as she saw what was there.
A bleeding skull lied atop her books, the dizzying smell of blood barely concealed by the smell of wax that ran down the back of her locker. The letters “Fuck you too slut” were written with red candle wax, and the bottom of the letters were distorted because it dripped before it froze.
“What the-?” the girl stepped back, and bumped into someone. Her eyes widened in surprise, and quickly turned around. “Who are you?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at the tall boy standing before her.
“I,” he started, “am your worst nightmare.”
-.-.-.-.-. end of flashback -.-.-.-.-.
She still remembered what he had said to her afterwards freshly, as if it had just happened a second ago. He slammed her against her locker, and with his hand around her neck in a chokehold, he dared her to do anything to Jaejoong again and face an even graver consequence. He released her then, and told her to tell her friends.
She shivered at the memory. If only they knew Jaejoong had such a protective…
Son?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Hey Yunho,” Jaejoong called as he walked over to Yunho. “You have a driving license already?”
Yunho rolled his eyes. “I thought you were going to ask something important,” he grinned. “Well, yeah,” he shrugged. “Can’t you drive?”
“Shut up,” Jaejoong pouted. “I asked Seven-hyung to meet us here, so we should wait him here.”
“Aren’t the three coming?”
“Yes they are, but they’re going by bus,” Jaejoong shrugged.
Yunho nodded absently, and sat down on the bench. He knew Seven would still take long since he was still taking care of the letters of permission for them and the other papers. Sometimes he was thankful they had a captain like him, so they didn’t have to do any work at all, except for doing their best in archery.
“I didn’t know you sing,” Jaejoong commented suddenly as he sat beside Yunho, looking up at him. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I don’t,” Yunho sighed. “U-Know forced me… I should’ve never given him the song…”
“Aw, don’t say that,” Jaejoong slapped his arm. “Your voice is nice,” he added, smiling as he turned to face Yunho. “Sing for me.”
Yunho blinked. “What?”
“I said, sing for me,” Jaejoong repeated. “That song. I want to hear you sing.”
Yunho looked back at Jaejoong who looked determined, and sighed. “You’re not going to take no for an answer, are you?”
Jaejoong laughed. “No,” he shook his head, and moved closer. “Come on… we don’t have all day.”
“Okay, okay,” Yunho agreed. He took a deep breath, and started singing.
I may am forgotten
But I will never leave
By your side I will stay
Until you remember
The sky is turning gray, but I don't fear the rain
My thoughts are about you, if you're safe and dry
I don't care if you know me or not, I certainly don't
Because all that matters, is that you're here with me now
I may have left you
Long time ago, when we were still little
But my feelings stay true and I do love you
I will look after you, my angel
I may am forgotten
But I will never leave
By your side I will stay
Until you remember
I did not regret the past, it was of no use
I'm thankful we're here now, in the present
Your being here lifted my mood, I thank you
But happiness will only come to me, once you say I love you
I may have left you
Long time ago, when we were still little
But my feelings stay true and I do love you
I will look after you, my angel
I may am forgotten
But I will never leave
By your side I will stay
Until you remember
I don't care how or why, I just want you to
I hope I'm not forgotten forever, only a distant memory to you
I may have left you
Long time ago, when we were still little
But my feelings stay true and I do love you
I will look after you, my angel
I may am forgotten
But I will never leave
By your side I will stay
Until you remember
Yunho stopped singing, and was about to turn to look at Jaejoong when he was suddenly tackled down by a crying mass. “Whoa, what happened?” he asked as he instinctively grabbed for the side of the bench, preventing himself from falling.
“It’s sadder when you sing it yourself,” Jaejoong groaned, and buried his face in Yunho’s shirt.
“Right, go ruin my shirt,” Yunho sighed, and hugged Jaejoong, patting his back. “Just don’t use it to wipe your running nose.”
Jaejoong whacked him and glared. “Jerk,” he pouted.
“You’re being sentimental,” Yunho pointed out.
“And you’re being insensitive,” Jaejoong retorted.
“Whatever…”
“It’s still so sad!” Jaejoong whined, holding onto Yunho’s shirt and crying again.
“You were the one who asked me,” Yunho poked his side.
“Shut up.”
“Fine,” Yunho shrugged.
Seven then jogged up to them, bringing the letters of permission with him. He stopped, and looked at them.
“What’s wrong?” he asked curiously.
“He’s being sentimental,” Yunho said shrugging.
“And he’s being an insensitive jerk,” Jaejoong pouted, pointing at Yunho.
“Err… do I want to know what happened?” Seven asked hesitantly.
“No,” Jaejoong and Yunho both shook their head at the same time.
“Okay then… let’s get going.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Their constant practices had paid off. As Yunho had said, they got the top three positions, with Yunho being the first place, Seven the runner up, and Jaejoong third place.
Yoochun, Changmin, and Junsu quickly congratulated them as they walked up to them after the awarding ceremony was over. Archers from other school also congratulated them for their victory.
“How are you going home today?” Seven asked as he packed his things up. “I can take the train from here, so I’m not going with you,” he said to Yunho who nodded in reply.
“Um, I’m not sure,” Jaejoong frowned a little. “The kids say they came here by bus, but… it seemed that the bus isn’t operating at this kind of time,” he added, looking at his watch.
Because the final round of the competition dragged on for long before the three winners were chosen, it was already night when the awarding ceremony finished. It was now nine p.m.
“The kids?” Seven asked as he raised an eyebrow at him.
“Yes, the kids…” Jaejoong trailed off. “Oh, um… it’s like this… they’re my cousin, childhood friend, and my cousin’s boyfriend. They like to stay over, and eat whatever I cook. They call me their umma, so I call them my kids.”
Seven looked at him in mild amusement, and nodded in understanding. “So who is the appa?” he asked, while looking at Yunho who was packing his things.
Jaejoong really felt like banging his head to the wall.
“I’m a single parent,” Jaejoong grinned a little.
“Oh, but it won’t stay that way for long,” Seven patted his shoulder. “Trust me.”
Jaejoong laughed uneasily. “Ahaha… I sure hope so.”
“I’ll drive you guys home,” Yunho offered after he finished talking.
“Is it okay?” Jaejoong asked. “Because we all live in separate places… except… oh wait, Min’s staying over today. I’ll ask Chun if he stays over too.”
Yunho nodded, and watched him walk out of the room. Seven bid his goodbye to, and left the room.
A few moments later, Jaejoong was back to the room.
“He said he’s staying over,” Jaejoong stated as he took his bag. “Do you know my apartment? You can drop all of us there.”
“I do,” Yunho answered, taking his own bag. “Let’s go then.”
“Oh… by the way, you haven’t eaten anything yet, have you?” Jaejoong asked.
“Yes?” Yunho asked back.
“Do you want to join us for dinner?” he offered.
“Oh,” Yunho mumbled. “No, I can’t. Sorry. I promised U-Know and Hero I’ll drive them to a restaurant. You know how he is. He’ll do anything for Hero, even if he asked him to go to the South Pole to get a penguin for him.”
Jaejoong burst out laughing. “I’m sure it’s not that bad,” he giggled a little.
“No, it is that bad,” Yunho pursed his lips and shook his head.
“I mean, that Hero guy,” Jaejoong shook his head as well. “I’m sure he won’t do anything like that.”
“I know,” Yunho shrugged. “I was only saying how U-Know is. He’s someone who’ll do anything at all for those he holds dear.”
“Just like you.”
“Am I?”
“Yes you are. Now shut up and get going. You don’t want to make your brother wait.”
“As you wish.”
“There you go again…”
End of Chapter Four
The lyric of the song Forgotten was written in like… less than half an hour, so I’m sorry if it’s very crappy. The format follows the format of typical Japanese songs :3 I can’t seem to find a pattern for Korean songs, so yeah…
I enjoyed writing this, so I hope you enjoyed reading this as well :DDDD comments are loved~!
