Chapter Five - Man on the Street

“Fine!  Have your way, bastard!” Junsu screamed to the phone and hung up, proceeding to throw it across the room until it hit the wall and fell down onto the floor.

“Junsu-shii?” Jaejoong asked as he walked into the room when he heard the commotion.  “Did something happen?”

“That man!” Junsu huffed angrily, sitting down on the couch.  “He doesn’t even respond when I told him Moonbin is the best in his class!”

“Mr. X?” Jaejoong asked softly, afraid to further anger the irritated male.

“Yes!” Junsu frowned.  He sighed, and got up.  “I’m going out for a while.  Keep an eye on Moonbin for me.”

“Okay,” Jaejoong agreed, and walked Junsu out of the apartment before walking to Moonbin’s bedroom.  He looked out of the window worriedly.  It was late, and Junsu had never gone out when the sun had set.

“I hope he’ll be okay,” he mumbled to himself.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Junsu sat on a stool at the far corner of the bar, not feeling up to dancing or doing any other things, and not wanting to talk to anyone either.  He fingered the rim of his glass before he held it in his hand and brought it up to his lips to take a sip, and placed it back on the counter.

“Hey there.”

“Go away,” Junsu said as he glared down at the counter, not bothering to look up at the one talking to him.

“That’s not nice,” the voice said, and the man sat down beside him.  “Are you alone?”

“Yes I am, so what?” Junsu glanced sideways to throw him a glare, but quickly looked back down at his glass of liquor.

“Broken heart?”

“No, just pissed.”

“Ah…”

“You have nothing to do with this, stay away.”

“Is that so…”

“What do you want?”

“No, I just thought you might like a company, is all.”

Junsu looked at him, and sighed, then continued to drink, just enjoying the silent company the man gave.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Junsu groaned as he stirred in his sleep, raising his hand to cover his eyes to block out the sunlight.  He paused when he almost fell off the bed, and blinked his eyes open.

“Where am I?” he looked around at the unfamiliar surrounding, and nearly squeaked when his eyes fell onto a mirror, and saw himself naked.

“What the hell happened!?” he asked himself, and noticed a piece of paper stuck under the desk clock.  He reached over to it, and unfolded it, reading the note inside.

Hey, uh, I don’t want to sound cruel or anything.  I really didn’t want to leave you alone there, but I had an appointment and I had to leave.  I’ve paid the room fee, so you can go out anytime as long as it’s before noon.

If you were wondering, you got drunk yesterday, and told me everything about your… uh… “useless, gold-digging bastard of a husband”.  I think you can… guess what happened afterwards.

If not, we did it.  I’m not a nameless guy who’ll leave you just like that, so if you want to sue me or anything… I’m Park Yoochun.

See you.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Welcome back, Junsu-shii,” Jaejoong greeted when he saw Junsu walking into the apartment.  “Moonbin is at school right now… is something the matter?”

“Jaejoong-shii…” Junsu mumbled softly.

“Yes?” Jaejoong asked, looking at him in question.

“I-I wish to talk to you,” Junsu said, his voice a little shaky.

“Sure,” Jaejoong agreed.  “Where do you want to talk?”

Junsu walked into the living room, and sat on the couch.  Jaejoong followed him, and sat on the armchair beside the couch.

“I need to ask you something,” Junsu said, looking down at the floor.  He sounded uncertain and doubtful, and Jaejoong wondered what had happened.

“What is it?”

“I-I slept with a guy named Park Yoochun last night.”

Jaejoong fell silent for a second, before he quickly regained his composure when he saw Junsu’s face fell.

“Do you know that guy?”

“No.  I met him at the bar last night.”

“Bar?”

“Yeah… I was drinking in a bar when he suddenly came, and just sat there.”

“Oh…” Jaejoong mumbled.  “He sounded… nice.”

“Well, he is,” Junsu nodded, “but that’s not reason enough to have an affair.”

“Junsu-shii,” Jaejoong started, “my mother always said… that your happiness comes first.  So, if you’re happy this way, why not?  Your… husband, he’s using you.  He doesn’t care for you.  This guy, however, he didn’t know you, but he sat there with you because he knew you were having a problem.”

“I guess,” Junsu nodded helplessly, and smiled weakly at him.  “Thank you.  I think I just needed to vent it all out to someone who wouldn’t judge me.”

Jaejoong smiled widely at him.  “You’re welcome,” he said.  “Oh, I’ll make you a cup of tea.”

“Thank you,” Junsu nodded, and sat there while Jaejoong walked out of the living room.

Jaejoong was about to walk into the kitchen, when he stopped dead in his tracks.  “Yunho?” he asked, looking up at the taller man.

Yunho looked down at Jaejoong almost coldly.  “Hypocrite.”

“Wha-what?” Jaejoong frowned.  “What are you talking about?”

“Your happiness comes first?” Yunho almost sneered.  “Don’t say something you yourself don’t do.  That makes you a hypocrite.”

Jaejoong’s eyes widened, and he glared at Yunho.  “What do you want?”

“Nothing,” Yunho spat.  “I just wanted to say that.”

“Go away,” Jaejoong gritted his teeth.  “You don’t know anything.”

“Oh, don’t I now?” Yunho teased cruelly.  “You were the one not listening to me!”

“Shut up!” Jaejoong screamed.

“Fine!  Have your way!”

“You don’t know anything!  Don’t talk like you do!”

“What didn’t I know!?  How could I know if you don’t even bother telling me!?”

“Jaejoong-shii, what-oh, Yunho,” Junsu blinked as he walked out of the living room and saw the two fighting.  “Is something wrong?” he asked.

“No, nothing’s wrong,” Jaejoong shook his head and smiled a little at Junsu.

Junsu looked at them, and sighed a little.  “Go in,” he pointed at the living room.

“Huh?” Jaejoong blinked.

“Go in,” Junsu repeated.  “Go in and talk.  I’ll make you two something to drink.”

Jaejoong frowned, and looked hesitantly at Yunho.  “Okay,” he agreed.

“Oh, and please try to be civil,” Junsu reminded.  “No strangling, kicking, punching, or killing.”

Jaejoong lifted an eyebrow as he watched Junsu walk into the kitchen.  How did the situation change so fast?

“Are you going in or not?”

Yunho’s voice snapped him out of his thought, and he quickly looked at Yunho who was still glaring a little at him.

“Yes,” Jaejoong nodded, and walked into the living room, sitting down on the couch, followed by Yunho.  “Shoo, don’t sit beside me,” he said.

Yunho rolled his eyes, and moved to the armchair.

“So,” Jaejoong sighed.  “Fine.  If it makes you happy, I’ll tell.”

“Go on then.”

“I… I came from a poor family,” Jaejoong started.  “My father died when I was still little, and my mother couldn’t pay for my tuition so I didn’t go to college.”

Yunho nodded thoughtfully.

“I came to Seoul with my friend, the one who was at the bar with me, after my mother died.  I stayed with him in an apartment until recently, when I met Junsu-shii and Moonbin.”

Yunho frowned slightly, but nodded at him, urging him to continue.

“When I first got here, I was awed by the size, and the furniture,” Jaejoong admitted.  “But now, I don’t want to leave because I don’t want to leave either of them.”

“I love my job.  It’s hard to look for a job in this big city when you’re just a high school graduate from a small city somewhere out there, and I don’t want to let go of it.”

“So I admit it, I like you.  I do.  Ever since that time you thought I was chased by a rapist.  But I can’t,” Jaejoong sighed.  “Please understand.”

Yunho looked at him, and sighed.

“Yun-“

“I see,” Yunho nodded as he got up.  “Well, thanks for telling me,” he shrugged.  “But… you didn’t listen to me.”

“What--?”

“Goodbye,” Yunho said softly, and walked out of the living room, leaving Jaejoong alone.

“Yunho?  Are you two finished?” Junsu asked as he walked out of the kitchen carrying a tray of two cups of ginger tea.

“Yes.  And I guess, in both senses.”

“Huh?” Junsu asked, not getting what he meant.

Yunho didn’t elaborate further, and just excused himself as he quickly left the apartment, telling Junsu that he was there for Moonbin originally, but he’d be back later.

Junsu looked at him strangely, and walked into the living room.  He put the tray on the coffee table, and paused.

“Jaejoong-shii?” he called.  “Why are you crying?”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Junsu stormed over to the maid’s room with a scowl on his face.  He was gripping a white envelope, and he stopped in front of the door, taking in a deep breath to calm himself down.

“Calm down, Junsu,” he said to himself.  “You don’t want to do anything stupid.”

He then knocked on the door rather loudly.  Once.  Twice.

“Yes?” Rina asked from inside.

“Rina-shii, open the door,” Junsu said calmly, still gripping onto the envelope.

The door creaked open, and Rina stood in front of him.  “What is it, Junsu-shii?”

“Jun Rina,” Junsu said in a low tone.  “You are fired.  This is your final payment,” he handed the white envelope over.

“What!?  Why!?” Rina asked, surprised.

“I don’t think lying about your employer is a tactful thing to do,” Junsu gave her a forced smile.  “And I don’t appreciate you lying to Jae either.”

“He told you, didn’t he?” Rina frowned.

“No,” Junsu stated simply.  “I kinda figured it out by myself after the two had a fight.  All thanks to you.”

Rina glared at him, and simply stood there.

“Do you enjoy ruining other people’s lives so much?” Junsu asked as he glared back at her.  “That’s exactly why no one chose you,” he added.

“Shut up,” Rina spat.  “It’s not like your relationship works out!”

Junsu frowned.  “That has nothing to do with this.”

”Oh?  You told me no one chose me because I like to ruin people’s lives.  What about you then!?” Rina challenged.

A loud slap was heard throughout the apartment, and Moonbin quickly walked out of his room to see what was happening.

“You…” Rina’s eyes widened as she held onto her stinging cheek.

“Get out,” Jaejoong said calmly, pointing at the front door.  “He fired you.  Or do you need me to take you out?”

Rina glared at him, and quickly packed her things, and brought them out with her.  Before she left, she threw Jaejoong another glare.  “Bitch.”

Jaejoong quickly closed the door, and sighed.

“Jaejoong-shii,” Junsu called as he walked over.  “You-you were listening?”

Jaejoong looked at him, and smiled weakly.  “Yes I was,” he admitted.  “I was going to the bathroom when I heard you two talking.”

“So…”

“Yes.  I know.  I’m an idiot,” Jaejoong sighed again, and covered his face with both hands.

Junsu hugged him, and patted his back.  “No you’re not.  You’re just too kind.”

“Am I?” Jaejoong looked down.  “I was selfish.”

Junsu smiled a little at him.  “Then apologize to him,” he said.  “I know he’ll forgive you.  He can’t stand seeing other people in pain.  He wasn’t angry at you, Jaejoong-shii.  He was angry at Rina.”

“But-but I…”

“Don’t believe anything she said.”

“He… told me…”

“Huh?  Told you what?” Junsu inquired.

“He told me to not believe what she said… but I ignored him…”

Junsu fell silent. “It’s okay,” he said softly.  “Talk to him.  I’m sure he’ll understand.”

“But-“

“No buts, listen to your employer,” Junsu said, laughing his unique laughter.  “If he really likes you, he’ll listen.”

Jaejoong smiled a little.  “Okay.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Jaejoong stared at his cell phone, and sighed heavily, biting his lower lip.  He had tried calling Yunho ten times already, but all of them resulted in the voicemail.

“Is he still angry?” he asked himself, starting to get worried.  “Aish, I’ll call him again tomorrow.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Hyung?” a man asked as he looked over at Yunho.  “Has your father called you yet?”

“I don’t know.  My cell phone is in a repair shop, remember?” Yunho sighed.  “I hope no one important called me.”

“It was your fault, though,” the man pointed out.  “Who the hell put their cell phone on the edge of the bathtub while bathing?”

“Okay, I’m feeling guilty already!  Don’t make me feel worse!” Yunho protested.

“Okay,” the man agreed.  “Oh, I better go back now.  Thank you for showing me my future house.  Your apartment looks nice.  Too bad you’re not going to live here anymore.”

“Thanks.  I guess…”

End of Chapter Five

When Yunho said “in both senses”, I meant: they finished talking, and they are finished.  As in, no relationship anymore or something like that.
