Chapter Three - Kung-Fu Princess

“Jaejoong-shii,” Junsu called as he stepped out of the taxi, carrying Moonbin with him.  “Here,” he said, handing Jaejoong a few bills from his pocket.

“What is this?” Jaejoong asked in confusion.

“You’re going to meet your friend right?  That’s for taxi fee,” Junsu shrugged.  “You made me proud earlier, and you took good care of Moonbin.  That’s the least I can do.”

“Ah, but that’s my job,” Jaejoong shook his head, returning the money to Junsu.  “You shouldn’t.”

“But I want to,” Junsu insisted.  “Take it, and go now.  Your friend is already waiting, right?”

“Yes… but-“

“No buts,” Junsu shook his head firmly.  “Take it and use it wisely.  I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He walked into the apartment building, and Moonbin waved at Jaejoong.  Jaejoong looked at them in confusion, but decided that he shouldn’t waste Junsu’s kindness.

He stopped a taxi, and asked the driver to take him to a bar near the apartment building-just because he didn’t want to go home too late because it was far.

“Hey Jae,” Heechul greeted as soon as Jaejoong walked into the bar.  He was already on a stool, hunched over a glass of yellow-red drink that Jaejoong didn’t even want to know what.

“Hey Chullie,” Jaejoong greeted back as he got up and sat on the stool as well.  “How was your time with Shiwon?  Where is he now?” he asked.

“Out to a reunion party or something,” Heechul shrugged.  “I couldn’t really catch it because his friend talked so fast, but oh well,” he sipped his drink again.

Jaejoong laughed and turned to the bartender, asking for some low alcohol drink.  Sometimes he wondered why he even bothered, but thought that maybe it was because he didn’t want to seem strange.

“So, how was the seminar?” Heechul asked, turning to look at Jaejoong.

“Oh, it was terrible,” Jaejoong sighed.  “The kids got all clingy to me, and I couldn’t move.  Literally.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?” Heechul sniggered as he looked at Jaejoong mirthfully.  “I told you this is the perfect job for you,” he added, remembering how Jaejoong handled his small cousins back then.

“Aish, shut it Chullie,” Jaejoong pouted, nodding at the bartender in gratitude as he slid the drink to his hands.  “I’m not flattered in the very least.”

“Why not?” Heechul asked, having calmed himself down.  “Isn’t it a good thing that you’re great at something?  You’ll make a good housewife!”

Heechul ducked to evade Jaejoong’s punch, and laughed even louder.

“I don’t know who you are,” Jaejoong said, huffing as he turned to look away, pretending he really didn’t know who Heechul was while the other was still laughing.

“Okay, okay, sorry,” Heechul said as he got back on his stool.  “I’ll treat you your drinks tonight, okay?”

“Deal,” Jaejoong beamed at him, and turned to order another drink from the bartender, making Heechul protest about having to pay more because Jaejoong would never let go of such chance.

“So, how’s your employer?” Heechul asked as he finished his first drink, and watched Jaejoong finish his second one, then prevented him from ordering another one.

“He’s nice,” Jaejoong shrugged.  “He hasn’t told me he prohibits romantic relationship, but I don’t think he’ll tell me that.  Probably he’ll just fire me on the spot.”

“That’s being pessimistic,” Heechul shook his head.  “You said he’s nice.”

“Nice and strict don’t have anything that connects them, Chullie,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “You can still be nice while being strict, but not mean.”

“I get your point,” Heechul pursed his lips.

“But I think he has another problem of his own,” Jaejoong started.  “Maybe this is what Rina-shii meant when she told me he wanted to share his pain.”

“Rina-shii?” Heechul lifted an eyebrow.

“The maid who worked for Junsu-shii,” Jaejoong answered. “She apparently has a crush on Yunho, but because of the prohibition, couldn’t get close to him.”

“I see,” Heechul nodded thoughtfully.  “And what do you mean by his problem then?”

“His marriage,” Jaejoong sighed.  “He married a man who took over his company after they had their first child.  Then, he started forgetting to come home.  Seriously, from the day I started working in their house, I’ve never even once seen this man, Mr. X, anywhere.”

“Whoa,” Heechul said in amazement.  “You think he’s cheating behind his back or something?  Men tend to do that when they’re at the top, no?”

“Chullie,” Jaejoong reprimanded as he frowned and shook his head.  “Don’t say that.  I don’t want anything bad to happen to Junsu-shii.”

Heechul looked at him and nodded slowly.  “Whatever you say Joongie.”

“Don’t say that.  You’re making me feel bad,” Jaejoong laughed and slapped Heechul’s arm.

“No worries.  I know I won’t like it if something happens to me too,” Heechul shrugged.  “And I’ll never forgive that person if anything happened to you.”

“Thank you,” Jaejoong grinned.  “But I believe Shiwon isn’t like that.  He looks fine to me.”

“Of course he is,” Heechul grinned.  “I didn’t just pick anyone out of the street to be my boyfriend, you know.  Or did you really think that?” he demanded.

“Really?  For a moment, I thought it was true!” Jaejoong joked, and now he was the one to avoid Heechul’s punch.

“Thanks for that,” Heechul pursed his lips, and Jaejoong quickly got back on his stool.

“Aw, sorry.  You know I don’t mean it,” Jaejoong cooed as he hugged Heechul tightly.  “Come on then, it’s almost ten now,” he said, looking at his watch.

“But we’ve only been here for a short while!” Heechul protested.

“Well, what do you suggest we do then?  Aside from ordering more drinks, of course, since I’m sure you’re not going to appreciate that,” Jaejoong grinned.

“Hm,” Heechul looked around the bar.  It was a simple bar where people hung out and drank, so there was no dance floor, and the tables looked like the ones in restaurants.

“Let me guess, you’re going to say this place is boring,” Jaejoong said as he followed Heechul’s line of sight, and sniggered when Heechul shot him a glare.

“I’ll rephrase that then.  This place is God-forsaken,” Heechul sighed.  “I was thinking of setting you up with someone here, but since you’re paranoid-“

“Am not!” Jaejoong exclaimed indignantly.

“Since you’re paranoid,” Heechul repeated as if he hadn’t heard Jaejoong.  “I think that’s not quite possible.  What a pity.  And there’s a good-looking guy over there.”

Jaejoong looked over to the direction Heechul was motioning at, and nearly choked on his own spit.  He quickly turned around, and walked off, tugging Heechul’s hand.

“Oi, what’s wrong?” Heechul asked as he looked back at the guy he was talking about.  “You know him or something?” he asked, looking back and forth between the two.

“That’s Yunho!  The one from the upstairs!” Jaejoong hissed.  “I really, really need to get away from here.  Why do I end up with him all the time!?” he asked, frustration lacing his tone.

He had desperately tried avoiding Yunho, but he then found out that Yunho went to meet his cousin for lunch to talk about some issue the same time he went to pick up Moonbin.  He also seemed to bump into him wherever he went, with or without Moonbin, and he was wondering if Fate was letting her sadistic streak shown.

“Ah…” Heechul said as he tapped his chin with his index finger thoughtfully.  “He looks really nice,” he commented, still looking over at Yunho and his friends around him.

“Yes, yes he does.  Now, can we go already?” Jaejoong pleaded, desperately wanting to get away before Yunho noticed he was there and do something.

“Nuh-uh.  What your employer doesn’t know won’t hurt him,” Heechul smirked, and turned to face Jaejoong.  “Oh Jaejoong, what a surprise to see you here!” he shouted loudly.

“Heechul, what the hell!?” Jaejoong demanded as he tugged Heechul’s hand again.  “Let’s go!  Now!” he demanded, walking off to the exit.

“Jae!”

“Oh my goodness,” Jaejoong covered his face with both of his hands and muttered something under his breath-which sounded oddly like an incantation, or “I’m screwed” to Heechul-while he looked positively murderous, glaring at Heechul through the spaces between his fingers.

“Hey Jae,” Yunho greeted as he walked over to them.  “Oh, hello to you too.  Are you his friend?”

“More like ex-friend,” Jaejoong hissed and rolled his eyes, but Heechul quickly clamped his hand over Jaejoong’s mouth, effectively shutting him up.

“That’s right.  I’m his best friend,” Heechul said, smiling widely.  “And you are?”

“I’m someone who lives upstairs from his place,” Yunho laughed a little.  “Sounds strange, doesn’t it?  But it’s true,” he shrugged then.

Jaejoong was trying to walk away.

“Where are you going?” Yunho and Heechul asked at the same time and Jaejoong cursed his rotten luck.  Did he even have any in the first place?

“Nowhere.  I just thought the restroom is that way,” Jaejoong laughed uneasily.

“Want me to go with you?” Yunho offered.

“No!” Jaejoong replied too quickly.  “Uh, I mean, no, it’s okay.  I don’t really need to go.”

”Oh,” Yunho mumbled.  “Want to join us over there?” he asked.

“With pleasure,” Heechul said, and quickly caught Jaejoong’s hand before he could run out of the bar, and dragged him over to the table, following Yunho.

They sat down on the chairs, and they all looked at them.

“Ah, so you’re Yunho’s friend?” one of the four guys asked as he looked at Jaejoong.  “You’re really pretty.  No wonder Yunho’s going after you.”

“What are you working as?” the second guy asked.  “A model?”

“Or maybe a hooker?” the third guy teased, laughing loudly as his face turned pinker than before.  “With that face and body, who’d refuse you?”

“No,” Yunho shook his head, interrupting quickly.  “He works for Kim Junsu now, as his son’s new caretaker,” he explained when he noticed Jaejoong’s frown.

“A nanny?” the third guy howled in laughter as he grabbed his stomach and sides.  “Are you really taking care of that kid, or just seducing the father!?”

Heechul and Yunho were about to say something, but they were interrupted when a loud bang sounded, and they looked over to Jaejoong whose fist now rested on top of the wooden table, cracks slowly forming on the surface, right where his fist was at, and Heechul wondered if he’d kill anyone.

He got up, and smiled sweetly down at the third guy.  “Seducing the father,” he repeated.  “Why would I do something to someone I never even met?”

He lowered even closer until he was face to face with the third guy.  “You said I look like a hooker,” he said softly, licking his upper lip.  “Maybe I really am…”

Jaejoong leaned down even closer, until his lips were only an inch or so from the guy’s, and Heechul looked martyred as he leaned back on his seat, idly watching them as the scene unfolded in front of him, while Yunho frowned, looking positively bothered and distressed.

Just as the third guy was going to lean up to kiss him, a fist collided with his jaw, sending him flying back until he hit the wall of the bar.

“Say that again, and I’ll make you wish you weren’t born!” Jaejoong threatened as he picked him up and punched his stomach hard, making the guy sputter.

He turned to the others, and glared hard.  “If any of you even think of it, I’m not going to show mercy.”

Heechul got up and sighed.  “Jae,” he said, placing a hand on his shoulder.  “Stop it.  You don’t want to be arrested because of this,” he warned.

“But Chullie-“

“Go home, Jae,” Heechul shook his head disapprovingly.  “And think about what you’ve done.  Don’t talk to me until you have,” he added sternly.

Jaejoong looked at the guy he had just punched twice, at Heechul, and back at the man.  “I’m sorry,” he mumbled, and quickly looked back at Heechul.

“I’m sure you are,” Heechul patted Jaejoong’s head.  “Now go.  I’ll take care of this,” he smiled a little at Jaejoong who merely nodded at him and walked out of the bar.

Heechul turned to look at the three guys who looked mortified, the guy who was now snapped out of his drunkenness but still sitting on the floor, and Yunho who looked confused.

“Sorry about that,” Heechul said as he sat back down, sighing as he inspected his nails.  “He tends to get violent when someone insulted him because of his looks.”

The guy finally got up from the floor, and sat back down on his seat.  The other customers in that bar pretended they didn’t just see that, and everything was back to before.

“I’m at fault too,” the guy said wryly.  “Please say my apology to him.”

“Of course,” Heechul beamed.  “Just be sure to never bother him again.  He took martial arts classes, and passed the black belt exam right before he stopped.”

The four guys gulped, and nodded dumbly.

“Hey,” Yunho called suddenly.  “Can I ask you for something?”

Heechul looked at him.  “Go ahead.  What is it?”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Jaejoong-shii?  Is something wrong?” Junsu asked when he saw Jaejoong storming inside the apartment with anger and annoyance written on his face.

“Jae-hyung?” Moonbin asked as he looked up at him.  “What happened?”

Jaejoong nearly melted when he saw them on the couch, clad in their pajamas, a story book on Junsu’s lap as he read it to Moonbin who was drinking milk.

“No, it’s okay,” Jaejoong smiled at the sight.  “I’m sorry I came in such a mood.”

“Come here, hyung,” Moonbin said as he patted the spot beside him on the couch.

Jaejoong walked over and sat down.  Junsu merely smiled and continued reading the story to Moonbin while he lied sprawled on both laps.

As soon as Moonbin fell asleep, Junsu carried him to his bedroom, and Jaejoong washed the glass before going back to his own bedroom.

He flopped down on his bed, and checked his cell phone which he had left in his bedroom before he went to the seminar with Junsu and Moonbin.

You have three voicemails.

“Hey Jae, it’s me Heechul.  We’re still going to the bar tonight, right?  I’ll meet you there then.  A little past nine, and don’t take too long!”

“Jae?  Is Heechul with you?  I can’t seem to contact him for a reason I don’t know why.  Please tell him I’m back already, if I didn’t reach him before you do.”

“Hey Jae-“

Jaejoong stopped the recording right after he heard the voice of the third message sender.

“Heechul!”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Chullie!  How did he get my number!?”

“Why are you calling me to ask that?”

“Because you must be the one who told him!”

“Aw, it’s not nice to accuse your friends.”

“So it’s not you?”

“Of course it’s me!”

“I’m going to kill you!”

“Try me, Jae.  You’ll thank me for it later.”

“Why would I!?”

“Just trust me.  See ya~”

“Chullie-“

“Who was that?” Shiwon asked from the couch, where he was sitting, reading a book he had just bought the day before while waiting for Heechul who was shopping.

“Our dearest, of course,” Heechul laughed as he walked over to the couch, and sat beside Shiwon.  “He’s falling in love,” he added, grinning widely.

“I thought he can’t due to his job?” Shiwon asked, lifting an eyebrow at him questioningly.

“What his employer doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right?” Heechul kept grinning from ear to ear, looking very pleased with himself.  “And that maid too.”

“What maid?” Shiwon wondered.

“The maid that told him his employer doesn’t approve of romantic relationships because he wanted to share his pain,” Heechul shrugged.  “That girl sounded strange.”

“Why?” Shiwon asked again.

“She just does.  I mean, from what Jae told me, I can assume that his employer is really nice.  Why would he do that?” Heechul said more like to himself.

“Who knows,” Shiwon shrugged and went back to reading.

Heechul looked over at him, and looked around the room to locate the bookmark.  Slipping it between the pages Shiwon was reading, he quickly closed the book and dropped it on the floor.

“I don’t find being ignored and beaten by a book fun,” he said, smirking as he moved to sit on Shiwon’s lap, facing him.  “It’s late, Shiwonnie.”

Shiwon smirked back as his hands rested on Heechul’s waist.  “What do you suggest we do now, then, Heechullie?” he teased, nipping at Heechul’s earlobe.

“Well, we can always go to bed,” Heechul grinned.

That night, their neighbors were very thankful they sound-proofed their walls.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Aish, that Heechul!” Jaejoong huffed as he looked down at his cell phone.  He really wanted to call Heechul again, but he was afraid he might disturb the two because he knew full well what they were like during nights.

He looked at it, and decided that he should listen to the last voicemail.

“Hey Jae.  I’m sorry about earlier.  My friends were drunk, and they, by no means, meant what they said.  The one you punched sobered up afterwards, and said he’s sorry for saying those things to you.  I am sorry too for making you come sit with us.  To show my regret, I’ll take you out to a dinner tomorrow.  Totally my treat.  Call me soon.”

“This guy will never learn,” Jaejoong sighed as he deleted the voicemails, and saved Yunho’s number, then called him.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Hey Yunho…”

“Oh, Jae!  I’m glad you called.”

“You shouldn’t be.  I can’t go.”

“Eh?  Why not?  I thought you’re free during nights.”

“Yes I am.  But I can’t.”

“…”

“Uh… listen.  I really, really want to.  But I can’t.  I don’t want to lose my job.”

“What does that have to do with this?”

“Because!  The maid said Junsu-shii doesn’t approve of anyone being romantically involved with anyone.”

“…”

“What!?”

“No.  I just find it funny that you’re assuming that.”

“Is that not true?”

“Why, yes, it’s true.  But still.”

“I hate you.”

“I love you too.  But really, Junsu-“

“No buts!  Apology accepted, so you don’t have to do anything, okay?”

And with that, he hung up.
