A/N: the school system will follow an Asian one (more particularly, Indonesian one).  The high school consists of three grades, year 10, 11, and 12.

Anyway, enjoy~

Chapter Two - Pinky Promises

Jaejoong walked behind his homeroom teacher, quiet as he wondered if he was going to be in the same class as the four.  Being in the same apartment was bad enough, and he didn’t know if he could handle being in the same class with them.

As a prestigious school, they had no uniforms.  A jacket with the school emblem was sold, however, if the students wanted something to show that they were students of that school.  That made Jaejoong very relieved because he was sure he didn’t have enough money to buy the uniforms.

“Here we are,” the teacher said as they stopped in front of a classroom.  It was class 3-F.

“Thank you,” Jaejoong bowed at him, and followed him inside.  He stood in front of the class, and sighed a little.

“Class, today we have a new student in our class.  Please welcome him,” the teacher said.

“My name is Kim Jaejoong.  Nice to meet you,” he bowed at the students, and stepped back a little.

“You can sit at the back, next to Yunho,” the teacher said, and Jaejoong nearly choked on his own saliva.  “Jung Yunho, please raise your hand.”

“No need sir,” Yunho grinned as he looked at Jaejoong who was glaring at him.  “I’m sure he knows me quite well.  Isn’t that so, Jaejoong-shii?”

“Well, then go to your seat,” the teacher said, and turned to take the attendance list.

“Go die and rot in hell,” Jaejoong glared at Yunho who simply grinned at him and ignored him pointedly.  His second surprise came when he saw that his seat was surrounded by those four guys.

He sat between Yunho and Yoochun, while Junsu was in front of him, and Changmin was behind him.

“Does Lady Luck hate me so much?” Jaejoong groaned as he covered his face with both hands.

“No.  It just happens that she’s away on a vacation,” Yunho shrugged.

“That was rhetorical, genius,” Jaejoong huffed.

“You’re funny,” Yunho smirked.  “Truth is, no one dared to sit in that seat.  But since there’s no other empty seat, you have to sit there, want it or not.”

“Then why aren’t I assigned to another class?” Jaejoong asked.

“You’re here to take care of us, aren’t you?” Yoochun grinned.

“You’re looking way too happy,” Jaejoong frowned.  “And keep your hand to yourself,” he added as he slapped Yoochun’s hand away from his thigh.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The lunch bell rang, and the four quickly took their book bags and walked out of the classroom, leaving Jaejoong behind.

“Hey!  Wait up!” he protested as he put his things away quickly, and rushed to catch up with them.  “You were the one who told me I’m supposed to take care of you!”

Yunho looked back at him, and shook his head.  “You sure you wanna come and sit with us?”

“Why not?” Jaejoong frowned.

“Nothing, just asking,” he shrugged, and opened the door to the canteen, entering it quickly followed by the other three, and purposefully slammed the door close.

“Hey sicko, perverted jerk!” Jaejoong screamed.  “Wait until I get back at you!”

He ignored the people who were looking at him funny, and walked into the canteen, following the four.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Why are you sitting there?” Yoochun asked as he looked over at Jaejoong who was sitting at the other end of the table.  The four of them were sitting at one side of the rectangular table, chatting with each other, while Jaejoong sat alone on the other side, far away from them.

“I thought you were the one who didn’t want me to get close,” Jaejoong huffed, slicing the meat fiercely, and the four sweat dropped.

“We didn’t exactly say that.  You were assuming things,” Changmin spoke up after a while.

“My assumptions were never false,” Jaejoong shrugged.  He paused, and then got up.

“Where are you going?” Junsu asked, looking up at him.

“To the restroom,” Jaejoong answered simply, and walked out of the canteen, and to the nearest restroom.

As soon as Jaejoong walked out of the canteen, Junsu and Changmin stood up, and approached his tray of food.

“What are you doing?” Yunho asked, lifting an eyebrow.

“Tampering with his food?” Junsu giggled.  He poured salt into his drink and stirred it, while Changmin sprinkled sugar onto the food, and mixed it.

“I don’t want to be held responsible for this,” Yunho sighed, and went back to eating, and Junsu and Changmin returned to their seats, acting as if nothing was wrong.

Jaejoong came back after a minute, and was wondering what was wrong.  “Why are you guys so silent?” he asked.

“We just don’t know what to talk about,” Junsu shrugged.  “Right Min?”

“Yep,” Changmin agreed.

Jaejoong nodded absently, and shoved a spoonful of food into his mouth.

Junsu and Changmin burst out laughing, but soon stopped when they saw Jaejoong eating his lunch as if nothing was wrong.

“Jae,” Yunho sighed as he looked over at Jaejoong who glared at him.  “I didn’t do anything,” he raised his hands up.  “Spit it out.  I know it tastes terrible.”

“No,” Jaejoong glared at him, and the other three, and continued eating his lunch.  “You three, eat your lunch up and make sure you leave nothing.”

The four looked at each other, but decided to obey.  For once, they were actually a little scared of their caretaker.  The previous ones were always scared of them, and didn’t dare do anything.  But Jaejoong had scared them.  Not once, but twice.

Yoochun was about to say something when Jaejoong reached for his drink, but decided not to when Jaejoong glared at him again.  They could only watch as he finished his lunch.

“What are you staring at?” he growled.  “Finish your lunch!”

The four quickly finished their lunch.  And after they finished, they stayed there, waiting for Jaejoong to say something.  The other students were looking at them in question and surprise since they weren’t usually that quiet, but decided that they would be better off not knowing.

“That,” Jaejoong started, finally, “was taking things a bit too far,” he stated, not dropping the glare.

“Do you think that having a lot of money means you can play with your food?” he asked coldly.  “What about those people starving out there?  What about the farmers who worked hard to grow the crops?  What about the cook who spent their time making the food!?” he raised his voice at each question.

“Junsu and Changmin,” he called, and the two shrunk back.  “I was about to scold you two for playing with flour yesterday,” he said, and they bowed their head.  “I really don’t care what you do to me, but I want you to at least appreciate the things other people work hard on!”

Jaejoong stood up, and took his book bag with him.  “I don’t want to see a repeat of this incident, ever again.  Do I make myself clear?” he asked.

“Yes,” the four chorused together in fear.

“Good,” Jaejoong nodded.  “I heard that caretakers who were hired to take care of you quitted their job halfway through,” he added.  “I am not them.  I will see this to the very end.”

And he stormed back to their classroom.

Yunho looked at the youngest two who looked very troubled.  “See?  You shouldn’t have done that,” he sighed.  “I’ll talk to him.  Stay here.”

“I’m sorry hyung,” Junsu said.

“No worries.  Just don’t do this anymore,” Yunho warned, and walked out of the canteen to give chase to Jaejoong.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Yunho walked along the corridor, wondering where Jaejoong might be, but quickly halted when he saw him inside their classroom, at his desk.

Walking inside, he quickly walked over to his own seat, and sat down.  He opened his mouth to speak, but…

“Don’t talk to me,” Jaejoong said coldly as he glared at the book in front of him.  He flipped open another page, and ignored Yunho who sat there.

Yunho rolled his eyes.  “Hey, I know you’re angry,” he started.

”I’m not,” Jaejoong retorted simply.  “I was furious.”

“Err, okay, let me rephrase that,” Yunho sighed.  “I know you’re furious,” he started, “but don’t you think that was a bit too harsh on them?”

Jaejoong snorted.  “Too harsh?  As if.”

“They’re still kids, Jae,” Yunho frowned.

“The hell they are!” Jaejoong snapped at him as he closed his book and slammed it on his desk.  “They need to be taught proper manners no matter their age!”

“That wasn’t how you teach kids proper manners!” Yunho shouted back.

“So!?  What do you want me to do!?” Jaejoong nearly screeched in anger.  “You want me to sweet talk them into not doing that!?  As if that’ll work!”

Slap.

Jaejoong’s eyes widened as he held his reddening cheek.

“Get a grip,” Yunho glared at him.  “I don’t know what happened to you in the past, but you’re overreacting.”

“Overreacting?” Jaejoong asked sinisterly.  “You call that overreacting!?  You are the one overreacting!”

Jaejoong slapped Yunho back hard, and got up from his seat.  “I hate you.”

Yunho watched as Jaejoong walked out of their classroom, and sighed heavily.  Things weren’t supposed to go like this.  Maybe what they said was true after all.

He was never a smooth talker, especially if it involved people he cared about.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Hyung,” Junsu called as he looked at Jaejoong who was sitting on the couch, wrapped in his blanket, with a thick book placed on his lap.  “It’s dinner time.”

“So?” Jaejoong asked, not even looking up.

“We-we can’t cook…” Junsu mumbled.

“And?” Jaejoong finally looked up, and lifted an eyebrow.  “Don’t you have a lot of money?  Why don’t you go buy some?” he asked.  “I’m not going to cook, if all you can do is throwing food away.”

Jaejoong went back to reading, but paused when he heard sniffling, and his hand was pulled.

“I’m-I’m sorry,” Junsu sniffled as he held onto Jaejoong’s hand.  “I promise I will never do it again.  I promise I will never pull pranks on you again.”

Jaejoong looked at him, and sighed audibly.  “Promise?”

“Yes!” Junsu exclaimed.

“Give me your finger,” Jaejoong said.  He linked his pinky finger with Junsu’s.  “You promised.  I will not forgive you if you break your promise.”

Junsu nodded quickly.

“Okay.  Go wipe your tears and take a bath while I prepare dinner,” Jaejoong said, putting his book on the coffee table, and getting himself out of his blanket.

“Thank you!” Junsu exclaimed as he hugged Jaejoong.  “Thank you…”

Jaejoong patted Junsu’s back.  “It’s alright.  Now go take a bath.”

“Right away!”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Dinner’s ready!” Jaejoong called as he stepped out of the kitchen, and hung the apron near the door.  “Don’t make a mess, and don’t forget to wash the dishes!”

Junsu was the first to get to the kitchen, skipping happily as he hummed a tune.  Changmin quickly followed, still a little distressed, and Yoochun went as well, looking a little worried.

“You two talked?” Yunho asked as he looked over at Junsu who looked happier than usual.

“What do you think?” Jaejoong rolled his eyes.  “Go eat your dinner,” he said, pushing Yunho into the kitchen.

“Aren’t you going to eat?” Yunho asked, looking back at Jaejoong.

“No, I’m good,” Jaejoong shook his head, and hurriedly walked back to the couch in the living room, taking his book and flipping it open again.

Yunho looked over at him, and sighed audibly.  Walking over, he sat down right beside him, almost making him jump up in surprise at the sudden movement.

“What do you want?” Jaejoong asked with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

“I want to talk,” Yunho said, pursing his lips.

“There’s nothing to talk about,” Jaejoong huffed, and went back to reading his book.

Yunho stared for a while, before he slipped a bookmark into the page where Jaejoong was reading, and closed the book, placing it on the coffee table.

“Yah!  I was reading that book!” Jaejoong protested as he reached for the book again.

Yunho held his wrist, preventing him from doing so, and held his chin with his free hand, turning Jaejoong so that they were face-to-face.

“What?” Jaejoong frowned.

“Does it still hurt?” Yunho asked, caressing the spot he slapped earlier with his thumb.

Jaejoong slapped his hand away.  “That’s none of your business.”

“Hey, I’m not here to look for a fight,” Yunho frowned.  “I-I want to apologize.  For being a jerk.”

“Glad you noticed,” Jaejoong rolled his eyes.

“Don’t get sarcastic on me,” Yunho frowned deeper.  “Anyway, yeah, I just wanted to say sorry.  I tend to not think before I speak,” he trailed off.

“Well, next time, think beforehand then,” Jaejoong huffed, and picked his book again.

“I’m not finished,” Yunho frowned as he took the book away.

“What else?” Jaejoong asked in annoyance.

“I only speak before I think if it’s about people I care about,” Yunho started.  “And you haven’t said you forgive me yet,” he pointed out.

“What if I don’t forgive you?” Jaejoong glared at him.

“Too bad.  You have to,” Yunho grinned at him.  “Come on, it’s not hard.”

“Fine, fine, I forgive you.  Happy?” Jaejoong sighed.  “Now return my book.”

“No, you have to eat dinner first,” Yunho shook his head.

“And if I don’t?”

“I’m not going to eat as well.”

“And I should care because?”

“I’m not going to return your book.”

“Okay, okay, I’m eating.”

“Good boy.”

“Shut up.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“A movie night?” Jaejoong asked incredulously.

“Yep!” Changmin confirmed.

Ever since Junsu told them that Jaejoong wasn’t angry anymore, the mood in the apartment was lifted, and they started talking and joking around again.

“What are you guys, ten?” Jaejoong frowned.

“Hey!  Old men can still have a movie night!” Yoochun protested.

Jaejoong rolled his eyes.  “Fine.  “What are you watching, again?”

“Twenty eight weeks later,” Junsu said as he read the title on the DVD case.

“That isn’t a horror movie, is it?” Jaejoong asked warily.

“Why?” Yunho asked teasingly.  “You scared?”

“I’m not going to watch,” Jaejoong announced.  “It’s late, and I need to get up early tomorrow.”

“Aw, little Jae is scared of a horror movie,” Yunho said, and was hit on the head by the pillow.  “Hey now, no need to get so defensive!”

“I do not!” Jaejoong glared at him.

“Whatever you say,” Yunho shrugged.

Jaejoong stared at them, and they all stared back.

“What?” Yunho finally asked.

“Where am I supposed to sleep?” Jaejoong frowned.

The four were occupying the couch and the armchair in the living room.

“Why don’t you join us and sleep later after we went back to our rooms?” Yunho suggested.

“Hell no,” Jaejoong glared at him again, and took his pillow and his blanket.  He placed them on the floor behind the couch, and lay down.  “Don’t turn the volumes up too high.”

“You sure you want to do that?” Yunho asked as he looked back at him.  “Don’t blame me if you get back pains tomorrow.”

“Why, I do plan on blaming you, since you were the one who kicked me out of the room where I supposedly stay,” Jaejoong retorted.  “Now just go watch that damn movie already!”

“Whatever you want…”
