Whatever happened to my resolution in not writing drama? T_T I can’t help myself. It’s too tempting *is shot* no, there’s no major drama or anything. This fic still mainly focuses on humor and all, but yes, there’s drama there, especially when it comes to Junsu :3 this is also my first time writing progressing Yunjae AND Yoosu (usually one of them is established) so go easy on me! XD
Anyway, as promised, here is chapter one of Nanny Diaries :D I will update Engaged by Accident tomorrow, hopefully. Please do wait for it
Chapter One - New Job, New Crush
“Are you ready?” Heechul asked as he stood beside his car which was parked in front of an old apartment building. The car wasn’t anything fancy, but it was decent.
“Yes,” Jaejoong nodded as he put the last of his things into the backseat-since Heechul claimed the trunk-and huffed, looking at how few his things were.
“You sure you want to go with me?” Heechul asked, lifting an eyebrow at Jaejoong while he watched him move over to the passenger seat, hand resting on the handle.
“Of course,” Jaejoong shrugged and looked back at Heechul. “I’m sure I won’t be able to pay the rent anyway. And I don’t have anyone here, so might as well go with you.”
“Aw, I’m flattered,” Heechul cooed as he quickly got into the driver’s seat, and Jaejoong into the passenger seat. “You can stay with me until you find a place on your own.”
“I know,” Jaejoong nodded and fastened the seatbelt. “Thank you Chullie, you don’t know how much this means to me,” he mumbled softly.
“You’re wrong, Joongie,” Heechul mumbled back as he fixed the position of the rearview mirror, and fastened his own seatbelt, starting the engine. “I do know.”
Jaejoong felt himself smile as he leaned back in his seat, sighing contentedly as Heechul pulled out of the driveway, and zoomed off towards their destination-Seoul, the capital city.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Why am I here again?” Jaejoong asked himself as he sat down on a wooden bench in a park, his left hand holding onto a loaf of bread while his right hand tore some of it and brought the small piece to his mouth, occasionally throwing the piece to the ground so the birds could eat.
“That’s right. Heechul is busy,” he sighed. Ever since Heechul got a new roommate, Jaejoong found himself kicked out of the apartment more and more often.
Somehow, he and his roommate had found each other attractive, and now they were lovers. Every time they felt up for some sex, they’d shoo Jaejoong out of the apartment.
“Some thoughtful friends they are,” Jaejoong muttered low under his breath, and mulled over the facts of life.
Because of financial problems, he hadn’t been able to get into a university, so he stopped after he graduated high school, and now he had problems trying to get a job. He really didn’t want to burden Heechul or Shiwon-his boyfriend-but it was hard to look for a job in a big city when you don’t have any degree.
“Birdie, birdie, why are you running away?”
Jaejoong looked at the owner of the voice and saw a little boy running after a dove that quickly flew away when he neared it, and looked at it dejectedly.
He then also noticed that there was a motorcycle going towards him, but the driver wasn’t looking because he was busy looking at a young female who was doing exercise at the park.
“Look out!” Jaejoong shouted as he quickly rushed to pick the boy up and get him away from danger. The motorcycle driver was surprised and swerved into a tree.
“Moonbin!”
Jaejoong looked up and found a man rushing over to him, clad in a Ralph Lauren shirt and a nice black dress pants.
“Hey, thank you for saving Moonbin,” the man smiled at him and picked up the little boy from him. “He’s my only child, and I love him so much. So thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Jaejoong said as he quickly got up and dusted his pants. “He’s cute,” he added, smiling at Moonbin as he patted his head.
“Oh… by the way, are you good with kids?” the man asked suddenly, and Jaejoong looked at him questioningly. “His caretaker had just quit because he’s off to marry, and I need another one for him.”
“Oh,” Jaejoong’s mouth formed an ‘o’. “Well, I like children, and I used to take care of my little cousins,” he explained. It really wasn’t a lie.
“Great! My name is Kim Junsu, and here is my card,” Junsu said as he took out a name card from his pocket and handed it to Jaejoong. “Call me if you decide to take my offer, and come over anytime you want.”
“Oh, okay, thank you.”
“See you!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“And so, I got the first job offer in my life,” Jaejoong sighed as he slumped on the couch in Heechul’s living room, having just being allowed to come back there.
“Isn’t that good?” Heechul asked as he looked out from the kitchen where he was cooking. He really wasn’t a bad cook, and he liked to cook whenever Jaejoong wasn’t around.
“I guess,” Jaejoong shrugged. “But I’m not so sure… because I’m somehow nervous.”
Heechul turned the stove off, and walked over to the living room to sit down beside Jaejoong. “Come here,” he motioned, and hugged Jaejoong tightly.
“Thank you Chullie,” Jaejoong mumbled as he hugged back. “I needed that,” he added, smiling slightly. “Thanks… you’ve always been a help.”
“Of course,” Heechul grinned. “It’s my job to look after you, Jae,” he said softly. “If you want it, take it. If you don’t want to, then leave it.”
Jaejoong looked down at the couch he was sitting on. “I guess I’ll take it,” he said determinedly. “I don’t want to burden you anymore, and it’d be good if I can make my own income.”
“That’s the spirit!” Heechul said, patting Jaejoong’s back. “Now that’s my Jae. Come here ad give me a hug. You’ve grown so much,” he added.
Jaejoong laughed and hugged Heechul again. Sometimes he liked to exaggerate things, but he was happy anyway. “Thank you. I’ll be getting ready tomorrow.”
“Good luck Jae,” Heechul said, patting Jaejoong’s shoulder. “You know you can always quit and come back to us if it’s too hard for you, right?”
“Of course,” Jaejoong smiled. “I’ll be sure to remember that.”
“Oh, and don’t forget to call me everyday!”
“Right-o!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Um, is this the right apartment?” Jaejoong looked around, carrying a small bag with him that contained all his clothes, his cell phone charger, his diary, and some stationery. He didn’t have many things in the first place, so moving from place to place was very easy for him.
He knocked on the door, and waited for a while. A young woman opened the door for him and welcome him inside.
“Oh, you must be Moonbin’s new caretaker,” the woman said as she smiled pleasantly at him. “My name is Jun Rina, the maid, pleased to meet you.”
“Kim Jaejoong, pleased to meet you too,” Jaejoong shook her offered hand with a smile. “Ah, I heard the last caretaker quitted because he wanted to get married…”
“Huh? Who told you that?” Rina asked in confusion. “He was fired because Junsu-shii caught him dating with that man named Kangin!” she exclaimed.
“What?” Jaejoong asked disbelievingly.
“Junsu-shii doesn’t approve of relationships between his employee and another person,” Rina shook her head. “Sometimes I wonder why, but maybe it was to share his pain.”
“Share his pain?” Jaejoong asked curiously.
“Well, you’ll see for yourself,” Rina smiled uneasily. “Welcome, though. Your room is at the end of the corridor. You can use the kitchen and the washing room all you want, and you have your own bathroom.”
“Thank you,” Jaejoong bowed at her, and quickly walked to his room. When he entered, his jaw nearly dropped at the interior. The wallpaper was very intricately designed, the bed was king-sized, there was a mahogany wardrobe beside it, and a nice, large bathroom with a bath tub inside the room.
“Whoa, this is even better than Chullie’s apartment!” he exclaimed to himself as he looked around. The view from the window was nice as well. “I-I can’t lose this… I mustn’t lose this…”
“I won’t lose this, even if that means I’ll never be able to date anyone,” Jaejoong said determinedly, and set his bag on his bed. He looked around, and saw a note from Junsu, telling him what he should do.
“Pick Moonbin up from his school at twelve thirty… make healthy food for him… read bedtime stories… take him out once in a while… keep an eye on him…”
“Rina-shii, what time is this?” he asked as he took his dead cell phone and charged it.
“Twelve ten,” Rina said from the living room.
“Oh shit.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Jaejoong panted harshly as he stood in front of the gate to the pre-school where Moonbin went to and held onto the stroller he brought for balance. He had to rush there because usually it took thirty minutes to get there.
Just as he had regained his breath, the bell rang, and he was nearly ran over by the stampede of little children rushing to their parents or their nannies.
“Moonbin!” he exclaimed when he saw the familiar little boy. “Moonbin, hey!” he called again, and ran after the boy, catching him by his bag.
“Let go of me!” Moonbin screamed as he fought back and kicked Jaejoong’s shin.
“Ouch!” Jaejoong fell down and accidentally let go of him. “Moonbin wait!”
He caught up with the boy again. “What’s wrong with you? We met already, remember?” he asked, trying to pacify the screaming kid and make him calm down.
“I hate you! I want Eeteuk-hyung!” Moonbin screamed at the top of his lungs, and kicked his shin again.
“Ouch! Hey!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
The elevator dinged, and the door opened, revealing Moonbin who was lying on the floor, and a disgruntled Jaejoong, holding onto the stroller and panting.
“Hey, we’re here,” Jaejoong announced as he pressed the button to keep the door open. “Get up, it’s dirty,” he said, looking down at Moonbin.
“I don’t want to. I hate you,” Moonbin pouted and stayed where he was.
“Come on, I’ll race you to the door,” Jaejoong offered, holding his hand over the sensor so the door wouldn’t close as he looked over at Moonbin.
“You’re going to let me win anyway,” Moonbin sad, huffing as he looked up at Jaejoong.
“Not a chance, kiddo, I’m a fast runner,” Jaejoong said almost smugly, and Moonbin suddenly got up, pulling Jaejoong’s pants down and rushing towards the door.
“Ah-hey!” Jaejoong shouted as he ran after him, but nearly tripped over his pants. “Moonbin! This isn’t funny, open the door!” he shouted, and the elevator door closed.
“The stroller!” he panicked and quickly pressed the elevator button, then went back to the door. “Moonbin, come on, open the door!” he pleaded as he unbuttoned his pants to pull it up.
Just as he finished unbuttoning his pants which were still hanging on his mid-thigh, the elevator dinged again, and he quickly turned to rush back into the elevator box to retrieve the stroller, only to bump into someone and fall hard on his behind, spouting off colorful words as he did.
“Uh… you’re not running away from a rapist are you?”
Jaejoong looked up to see a young, handsome man with short black hair and kind dark eyes, and suddenly realized the situation he was in.
He was sitting on the floor after bumping into him-which was after he was rushing into the elevator box-, his hair was disheveled, his shirt a little crumpled, and his pants hanging on his thigh.
“No!” he exclaimed quickly. “Uh, if you’d kindly turn around…” he said softly as he blushed hard from the embarrassment of being caught in such situation by a good-looking guy.
The guy quickly turned around, and Jaejoong turned around as well, pulling his pants up and buttoning it up. He smoothed down the lines on his shirt, and smoothed his hair down.
“Finished?” the man asked.
“Oh, yes,” Jaejoong said. “Thank you,” he said as he looked down and noticed that the man was holding onto the stroller he was going to take.
“You’re Moonbin’s new caretaker?” he asked when he saw Jaejoong staring at the stroller as if he wanted him to get the message that he wanted it back.
Or maybe he really did want it back.
“Yes… kind of,” Jaejoong shrugged. “Thanks for your help?”
“Then what are you doing out here?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow.
“Uhm…” Jaejoong blushed again. “I was locked out.”
“Oh,” the man said. “I’ll help. I’m Jung Yunho, Moonbin’s friend from upstairs.”
Jaejoong looked at him, and he looked back, as if Jaejoong had grown a third eye.
“Your name?” Yunho finally asked.
“Oh!” Jaejoong blushed again. Why was he so slow? “I’m Kim Jaejoong.”
“Jaejoong,” Yunho repeated, and smiled. “That’s a nice name.”
Yunho then turned around, and knocked on the door while Jaejoong watched him. “Moonbin, hey, it’s me Yunho,” he shouted, making sure it was loud enough so Moonbin could hear it from the inside. “It isn’t nice locking people outside, you know,” he added, a hint of childishness in his voice.
“I don’t care! I hate him!” Moonbin shouted from the inside.
“Why?” Yunho asked, leaning over the door.
“Because he takes Eeteuk-hyung away from me!” Moonbin shouted back.
Jaejoong’s face fell at that, and Yunho saw it.
“Moonbin,” Yunho said almost in reprimand. “That’s not nice. Eeteuk-hyung is gone to look for his own happiness. Don’t you want him to be happy?” he asked. “Or are you that selfish to deny him his happiness?”
Jaejoong idly wondered if Moonbin even knows what deny meant.
There was a silence, and then a click was heard.
“There you go,” Yunho grinned as he ruffled Moonbin’s hair affectionately. “Don’t be mean to Jaejoong here, okay? He wants to be your friend.”
Moonbin looked at Jaejoong almost critically, but then he huffed and walked inside the house again, leaving the two elder men outside alone.
“Sorry about that,” Yunho said as he turned back to face Jaejoong. “Moonbin really likes Eeteuk-hyung, and he is very disappointed that he left.”
“Do you know why?” Jaejoong asked. “I heard he’s-“
The elevator dinged, and Junsu walked out of it. “Oh, hey Jaejoong-shii. What are you doing here?”
“He’s just come home with Moonbin,” Yunho answered for him. “Moonbin’s inside,” he added, and Junsu looked at him, before he nodded and walked in.
Jaejoong breathed a heavy sigh in relief when Junsu didn’t seem to suspect anything. But that might be because they already know Yunho well.
“Oh, I gotta run now,” Yunho said as he looked at his watch. “Have to meet my cousin at a restaurant nearby. See you some other time, Jae.”
“Uh, yes, see you,” Jaejoong waved at him as he rushed into the elevator box.
Then, he realized something.
“Wait! I’m not supposed to see you! Argh!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Jaejoong lied on his stomach on his bed, his diary in front of him, and a pen in his hand. He flipped it to a blank page, and started writing.
So, now the guy who never had a love interest before-or any luck in this case, suddenly have two males in his life.
One is clearly out of his league, since he’s rich-he stays in a luxurious apartment!-and since his employer clearly doesn’t approve of romantic relationships.
And so, I’m left with the other male whose heart I need to get into.
Moonbin.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“You met a hot guy?” Heechul asked excitedly as he nearly jumped up and down on the couch where Jaejoong was sitting. “Tell me about it.”
Jaejoong groaned as he turned around and put the cushion over his head, trying to block out whatever Heechul said to him, but it apparently wasn’t working.
“I met him in the most embarrassing situation,” Jaejoong sighed. “I don’t think he’ll be interested in me afterwards,” he shrugged, huffing a little.
“What kind of situation?” Heechul asked, and Shiwon joined them in the living room, wanting to hear the story as well. “Come on,” he urged.
“Well, the kid I’m taking care of pulled down my pants, and I was quite disheveled after playing tags with him earlier. I bumped into him while I was rushing to get to the elevator box to retrieve the stroller, and he thought I was running away from a rapist,” Jaejoong summarized.
“Oh,” Heechul blinked. “Wow.”
“What wow!?” Jaejoong protested.
“That sounds like something out of a movie,” Heechul shrugged.
“Aish…” Jaejoong buried his head in the cushion again.
“Then what’s bothering you?” Shiwon asked.
“Truth is… I heard my employer doesn’t approve of romantic relationships between his employee and anyone,” Jaejoong sighed. “So I’m afraid I might lose my job.”
“Aw, is your job that important to you?” Heechul asked.
“Of course!” Jaejoong said with a ‘duh’ look on his face. “The room is very nice, and I have access to everything I can only dream about before!”
“I see,” Heechul nodded his head.
“But Jae, isn’t that important to you too?” Shiwon asked. “I mean, you haven’t had any love interest before, right? So maybe, you can get lucky this time.”
Jaejoong fell silent. “I-it’s not the only thing that’s important… the paycheck… I don’t want to burden you guys, and having my own income means a lot to me.”
Heechul smiled. “Yes, I know, being only a high school grad and all that crap,” he laughed. “Come here,” he said, and hugged Jaejoong tightly.
“You two are like mother and daughter,” Shiwon commented off-handedly, and ducked down to evade the flying spatula Heechul was still holding.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Jaejoong sighed as he lied on his bed and stared at the ceiling. He really wanted to go after Yunho, because sure, he had feelings for him, and he hoped it was mutual, but he wasn’t ready to lose what he had just gotten. Not when it gave him a sense of security, a sense of satisfaction.
He knew that Yunho was probably filthy rich or something as well since he dressed so nicely, and he lived in the apartment building, but he didn’t want to rely on others.
“You have great friends, Jae, don’t let go of them.”
“But I don’t want to burden them, Umma.”
“If they are helping you on their own will, you are no burden to them.”
“But still… I want to do things on my own.”
“That’s my Jae. You have to work hard then, okay?”
“Yes, of course.”
“But don’t forget, your happiness comes first.”
He sighed again, and looked outside his window. Remembering his mother’s words to him a long time ago didn’t really help. What was his happiness?
Would he be happy if he went and risked his job for someone who he wasn’t even sure liked him?
He shook his head to clear his thoughts, and looked at the ceiling yet again. So now, he had one thing he had to focus on.
What should he do to make Moonbin like him?
