Cruise to Jeju

“Whoa, you sure we’re boarding this ship?” Jaejoong asked as he looked up at the huge cruise in front of him.  “I mean, well, we’re only going to Jeju…”

Yunho laughed as he helped carry Jaejoong’s bags.  “Stop questioning it and let’s go.  You know you deserve only the best.”

“And you like to waste money on me,” Jaejoong shook his head as he followed Yunho up the walkway to the entrance of the ship.  He showed their tickets to the guard, and were admitted in.

“Upper deck, room number 444,” Yunho read.  “We’ll have to share this cabin with some people.  It’s for up to five people after all,” he shrugged.

“Don’t mind,” Jaejoong replied.  “But why is the number 444?  Somehow I have a bad feeling about this,” he mumbled as he frowned slightly.

“What now, you don’t actually believe in unlucky numbers and all that, do you?” Yunho teased as he grinned, and pinched Jaejoong’s cheek.  “That’s like a little kid.”

“Oh, shut up,” Jaejoong huffed as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.  They walked up to the upper deck, and when he was about to open the door to their room, he felt a chill running up his spine.

“Something wrong?” Yunho asked as he looked at him in concern.

“I don’t know,” Jaejoong mumbled hesitantly.  “I felt a chill just now,” he added, rubbing his lower arm.  When he took a closer look at it, he noticed that the hair there was standing.

“Oh come on,” Yunho shook his head.  “We’re here to have fun.  Don’t think of negative things and just enjoy yourself, okay?  Just forget it for a while.”

“I’ll try,” Jaejoong nodded.  “But-“

“I know Jae,” Yunho sighed as he slung an arm around Jaejoong’s shoulder.  “And that was why I took you on this trip.  I was hoping you could relax.”

“Sorry,” Jaejoong bowed.

“Don’t be,” Yunho smiled at him and kissed his cheek.  “Just try not to think about it unless it’s very urgent, okay?”

“Okay,” Jaejoong agreed, and they opened the door to their shared cabin.  It was big with five separate beds on one side, a joint bathroom, a wardrobe, and a couch on the other side.

The other three occupants of the room were already there before them.

“Hello!” a young man greeted cheerfully as he jumped up from his bed and walked towards the two.  “You two are the other occupants of this room?”

“Yes, we are,” Jaejoong answered.  “I’m Kim Jaejoong, and this is Jung Yunho.”

“Nice to meet you!” the man beamed.  “My name is Kim Junsu.  The one sleeping there is Park Yoochun, my boyfriend, and that one is Shim Changmin, his cousin.”

“Nice to meet you too,” the two said in unison.

“Ah, I’ll let you guys unpack first.  Dinner will be ready at about seven.  There’s going to be a party down there, or so the Captain said,” Junsu grinned.

“Thank you for telling us,” Jaejoong smiled at him.  He liked people with positive attitude.

“You’re welcome!” Junsu said, and then bounded back to his bed, and joined Changmin in playing games on his laptop.

“Well…” Jaejoong started.  “Let’s just unpack first.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Aish, why do I have to forget every thing?” Junsu scolded himself as he ran back to their cabin, the key to their cabin grasped tightly in his left hand.

Inserting the key in a hurry, he opened the door, and went in to retrieve his forgotten cell phone, which was lying on the bedside table beside his bed.

“Ah, good, now I better go join them,” he muttered to himself, and walked towards the door again.  He paused when he felt a weight on his right shoulder.

“Uh?  Who’s that?” he asked.  “I thought you all were down there.”

He received no reply, and he frowned a little as the weight got heavier.  He turned around to see who it was.  “Hey-“

He froze when he came face to face with a smoky white and almost transparent figure of a young woman, her eyes blank and her chest bloody.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Ah, this is quite nice,” Jaejoong commented as he sipped his wine slowly, sighing in contentment.  “The dinner was great as well,” he added.

“Told you, you deserve the best,” Yunho grinned as he sat down beside him, holding onto his own glass of wine.  “By the way, why is Junsu taking so long?”

Yoochun looked at him and shrugged.  “Maybe he misplaced his cell phone.  He’s clumsy and he tended to do that a lot of time,” he looked at Changmin who only nodded in agreement.

“I’ll go get something else to eat,” Jaejoong said as he stood up.  “What do you want, Yunho-yah?”

“Anything light and not sweet is okay with me,” Yunho replied.  “Don’t take long.  And if someone tries to do anything funny, do the kick I taught you.”

Jaejoong laughed.  “Sure,” he said, and walked off to the buffet table, where most of the guests were.

Just as Jaejoong disappeared from their sight, Junsu came running towards them, stopping abruptly as he nearly hit the table.  His hands were on his knees as he panted, trying to catch his breath.

“Hey, what happened?” Yoochun asked as he blinked.  “You looked as if you had just seen a ghost!” he commented as he chuckled lightly.

“Wait,” Yunho raised his hand, and looked at Junsu.  “Did you see a ghost?”

“Hey now,” Yoochun looked over at Yunho.  “Do you seriously believe ghosts exist?”

“I do,” Yunho shrugged nonchalantly.  “In fact, my boyfriend over there is a communicator.  He’s gifted with the ability to make everyone around him able to see and hear a ghost.  He also talks to ghosts and help them solve their unfinished problems.”

“Really?” Changmin asked, clearly interested.

“Yes, that was why I brought him here, to help him forget about his “friends” for a while, but it seemed like my plan didn’t work,” Yunho sighed audibly.  “So, did you?  He did mention something about having a bad feeling this afternoon.”

“I-I did,” Junsu said in-between harsh breaths.  “It was a woman.  With long black hair.  Her eyes were blank, and her chest was bloody.”

“Most likely killed,” Yunho commented.  “And by being stabbed at the chest.”

“What are we going to do then?” Yoochun asked, frowning a little.  “I don’t think others will believe us if we tell them there’s a ghost in our cabin.”

“No,” Yunho shook his head.  “We’ll just have to help her settle her problem.  Most likely, she’ll want to have revenge on the one who killed her.”

“But how can we know?” Changmin asked.  “The murder was in that room.  We can’t possibly ask who have stayed in that room as we don’t know when she died.”

“Don’t worry,” Yunho smiled a little.  “Ghosts will only appear before people when the one they have an unfinished business with is nearby.  So it’s likely a passenger on this ship.”

“So we’re going to do a wild goose chase?” Junsu asked.

“I’ll ask Jaejoong to ask the ghost,” Yunho scratched the back of his head.  “That’s our best bet for now.”

“I see, so where is he?” Junsu asked as he looked around.

“I’m here,” Jaejoong interrupted as he placed a plate of cheese sticks on the table.  “Looks like I’ll never be able to have a vacation in peace.”

“Don’t say that,” Yunho frowned.  “I’m feeling bad.”

“Don’t be,” Jaejoong smiled at him as he took a cheese stick, and started eating it.  “But can we finish this first?  It’s a waste.”

“Sure,” Yunho shrugged as he took one as well.

The three looked at the couple strangely.

“Is there something wrong?” Jaejoong asked, touching his face.  “I thought I wiped the sauce already.”

“No, no,” Junsu shook his head.  “I was just wondering why you two are so calm about this.”

“Told you, this is his job,” Yunho replied simply.  “We’re accustomed to it already.”

“Okay,” Junsu nodded.  “But I don’t want to go in there first.”

“It’s okay,” Jaejoong said.  “I will go in first.  Now let’s finish this up so we can get to work.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Jaejoong slowly walked inside the room, looking around.  He switched the lamp on, and motioned for the other to come inside as well, before he closed the door, and locked it.

As soon as he locked the door, the smoky white figure reappeared in the room.

Junsu let out a shriek as he quickly dove in to hide behind Yoochun and Changmin, looking at her warily, as if she would suddenly teleport in front of him and eat him up.

“You scared my friend,” Jaejoong said softly as he walked over to the figure.  “Why are you here?  Is this the place of your death?”

A light, almost surreal voice resounded in the room while the figure didn’t even open her mouth.  “You can see me and hear me?”

“Yes I can.  I communicate with… beings like you,” Jaejoong said slowly.  “I don’t mean to offend you.”

“No offense is taken,” the voice said.  “My body is still in here.”

Jaejoong’s eyes widened slightly, before he coughed and tried to look as normal as he could.  “Okay, how did you-I mean, where?  And how?”

“He killed me, and hid my body at the corner of this room.  There wasn’t a wall there, but he made it with painted wood.  He paid someone to help him.”

Jaejoong took a deep breath, and shook his head.  “Who is he?”

“He was my fiancé…”

“Your fiancé?” Jaejoong asked almost in disbelief.  “Then why did he kill you?”

“He only wanted the money my father gave him as a dowry.  He planned to kill me, and told the others I had an accident while we were having a honeymoon.”

“That’s just sick,” Jaejoong felt his throat constrict.  He looked over to the others, and to Yunho.

“What!?  I’m not going to kill you, okay?” Yunho said defensively.

Jaejoong rolled his eyes.  “I didn’t say anything.”

The figure smiled a little, and Junsu blinked.  “Is it… safe?” he asked squeakily.

“Yes it is, Junsu-shii,” Jaejoong smiled at him.  “She’s not going to hurt you, I promise.”

Junsu stepped out from behind Yoochun and Changmin.  “Yunho-shii said he’s probably on this ship as well.  Is that true?”

The figure paused, and it started to gleam in white aura.  “He’s very near,” the voice got a little shrill.  “I can sense his smell coming from you.”

“Me?” Jaejoong was taken aback.  “How-oh!”

“What is it?” Yunho asked.

“There was a man I met at the buffet table,” Jaejoong admitted.  “He’s very annoying,” he frowned.  “And flirty.  And shameless as well.”

“That’s him!  That’s him!”

“Duck!” Jaejoong shouted, and everyone kneeled down as a gust blew inside the room, making things fly and hit the wall and ceiling, some breaking into pieces.

“He’s here!  He’s here!  I’m going to kill him!”

“Oi, calm down!” Jaejoong shouted over the noise of the gust.  “I can’t help you if you’re being unreasonable!”

The gust slowly died down, and the things were returned to their original positions.

“Good,” Jaejoong sighed as he stood up.  “I know his name.  I’ll go get him, and bring him here.”

“I can’t do anything yet.”

“We have to free your body first?”

“Yes.”

“Where is it?”

“At the corner, near the window.”

Yunho sighed.  “I’ll do it,” he said as he took a bar from the towel hanger, and walked towards the corner.  “Here?” he asked as he tapped the wall with the bar.

“Listen for a hollow sound.”

“Okay,” Yunho nodded, and tapped the wall with it repeatedly.  When he finally heard a hollow sound, he paused, positioned the bar, and hit the wall with it hard.

“Careful, you’re going to break the bar,” Jaejoong warned.

The wall suddenly cracked, and broke, small pieces of wood scattered on the floor.  A skeleton fell out of the gaping hole, and the room was filled with the stench of rotten corpse.

“Ugh,” Junsu covered his nose with his hand and the others did the same.

“I need your help, Communicator.”

Jaejoong looked at the figure.  “I will need your help too.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Jaejoong stood in front of a room, dressed in a simple white shirt and black pants.  He waited for the occupant to open the door for him while tapping his foot impatiently.

The door clicked open, and a tall man stood in front of him.  “Ah Jaejoong-shii, a pleasant surprise to see you here.”

“Hello Min Sung-shii,” Jaejoong smiled sweetly at him.  “My roommates are all out right now, they’re partying until dawn, and I’m wondering… if you’d like to spend the night over in my room.”

“Why can’t we stay here?” Min Sung lifted an eyebrow.

“Because my room is bigger,” Jaejoong smiled even wider at him.  “Or… don’t you want to?”

“No, no, of course I want to,” Min Sung shook his head.  “Okay then, let’s go.”

“Oh, I promise you, you won’t regret it,” Jaejoong said seductively as he pressed himself close to Min Sung.  “I’ll make this an unforgettable night for you.”

“Very unforgettable in fact… as it might be your last…” he added so softly only himself was able to hear.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Why are we here?” Junsu asked as he frowned a little.  “I want to watch.”

“We shouldn’t interfere,” Yunho shrugged.  “I rarely see him in action as well, because it’s better to leave him working alone with the spirit.  We can hinder their work.”

“I guess you’re right,” Junsu pouted.  “But I was wishing we could see what she did.”

“Hm,” Yunho tapped his forefinger on the countertop as he took a sip of his Sherry.  “Let’s go back to our room then.”

“Won’t we hinder them?” Changmin asked.

“Nah, we can see from outside.  She can create illusion to fool the man.  I’m sure it’ll be no problem.”

“I sure hope so.  I won’t want that woman to go after me instead,” Yoochun mumbled to himself.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“This is your room?” Min Sung frowned when he saw the number on the door.  “Uh, you sure you don’t want to stay in my room instead?” he asked again.

“Why not?” Jaejoong asked, smiling at him.  “You don’t believe in superstitions, do you?  I assure you this room doesn’t bring bad luck or anything.”

“No, it’s not that,” Min Sung said uneasily.

“Oh, don’t worry,” Jaejoong winked.  “You’re going to have a lot of fun tonight.”

“If you say so…” he trailed off as he followed Jaejoong inside the room.

“You’ll have a lot of fun,” Jaejoong repeated again as he closed the door behind him once Min Sung was inside.  “With your ex-fiancé, Joon Shin Ji-shii.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The four stood outside their room as they watched the scene unveil before them in awe.  The gust of wind blew again in the room, and Shin Ji’s skeleton moved on its own, teeth clacking together and fingers shaking as it approached Min Sung who was rooted immobile to the spot.

The skeleton wrapped its arms around Min Sung, and dragged him back with it inside the gaping hole, which was suddenly fixed just like that.  The gust died down again, and Shin Ji’s spirit appeared in front of them.

“Yunho-yah,” Jaejoong turned to look at them.  “Come in.”

The four walked in, and joined Jaejoong in front of Shin Ji’s spirit.

“Thank you for helping me, kind Communicator.”

“It’s okay.  It’s part of my job, anyway,” Jaejoong shrugged.  “So, you’re going now?”

“Yes I am.  Please tell the crew of this ship to break this wall, and bury my body.  I will leave now.”

“Take care,” Jaejoong said as he waved slightly at her.

The figure gleamed again, and then disappeared.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The next morning, they told the ship crew about it, and they found two skeletons inside the wall, one belonged to Shin Ji and the other Min Sung.

The one who helped Min Sung put Shin Ji’s body behind the wall was fired, and the police was called.  They agreed to let their families have a proper burial for them.

“Ah, finally, another case completed,” Jaejoong stretched as he smiled happily, standing at the port where their ship had docked at Jeju Island.

“Yeah, slave driver,” Yunho complained from behind him as he carried all Jaejoong’s and his own bags.

Jaejoong laughed a little.  “Don’t you want me to enjoy this vacation?  That’s the least you can do.”

Yunho rolled his eyes, and looked at the three.  “You three are still here?”

“Hey, why not?  I’m scared of ghosts, but I’m also interested,” Junsu grinned.  “Maybe if I stick by you guys, I’ll get to see something like yesterday again.”

Yunho could only face-palm himself while Jaejoong laughed in amusement.

Finished

Do you think I should make this a universe like Law and Order?  Or should I leave it just like this? :3

By the way, if you noticed, Min Sung and Shin Ji’s names are taken from Law and Order’s first case :D
