peifong :D thank you dear~ I finally got to writing this~
I’ve never tried writing a romance and drama piece, so hopefully this won’t turn out so bad. It’s categorized under a few shots, because it’s only… five chapter with epilogue :3 they won’t be numbered though.
And if you think the title doesn’t have anything to do with the story, well, you thought right *gets whacked*
Present - 2008
“I’m home, okaa-san!” a young boy greeted loudly as he swung the front door open, and walked inside, shivering as he quickly closed the door behind him, and took off his little shoes. He put his backpack on the couch, and sat beside it like a little puppy, waiting for his mother to come out.
“Welcome home, Moonbin-kun,” Jaejoong greeted as he walked out of the kitchen, carrying a tray with a mug of hot vanilla, and a plate of chocolate chip cookies on it. “Here, have some. It’s cold outside, isn’t it?” he asked, placing the tray on the coffee table in front of the couch.
Moonbin beamed, and nodded excitedly. He had always loved his mother’s cooking, whatever it was. Then, with a loud exclamation of “itadakimasu”, he grabbed a cookie, and started munching on it eagerly.
Jaejoong smiled at his antics, and sat beside him, ruffling his hair affectionately. “How was school today? Was it nice?” he asked softly. He knew Moonbin would have slight problem with the language since they mostly use Korean at home, and Japanese only when they were outside, or occasionally.
“It was,” Moonbin nodded thoughtfully, nibbling on his cookie. “My teacher told me there’s going to be a parents’ meeting next week. Do you think you can come, okaa-san?”
“Of course,” Jaejoong patted his head as he smiled down at his only son. “What made you think I would even consider the option of not going?”
Moonbin stopped chewing as he frowned slightly. “I don’t know,” he finally shrugged. “But you’ve been so busy these past few days. I don’t want to bother you,” he mumbled, taking his mug, and sipping the vanilla in it.
“Yah, Kim Moonbin,” Jaejoong pinched his cheeks, almost making him choke on the drink. “Don’t be negative, okay? I know you’re a genius, but you have to act like a little kid sometimes.”
“I’m not,” Moonbin pouted, sticking out his lower lip at Jaejoong. “I’m just smarter than you are,” he grinned widely. He just enjoyed teasing his mother about it.
Jaejoong rolled his eyes, and flicked Moonbin’s forehead. “I’ll be off to Paris with Yoochun tomorrow, but I’ll be back by the end of this week,” he announced.
Ever since Moonbin turned five, they all noticed that he was smarter than most kids his age. He was able to think like an adult, and Jaejoong was very proud of him.
“With Yoochun-nii?” Moonbin asked, tapping his chin with his short forefinger. “Will Junsu-ji go with you?”
Yoochun had been Jaejoong’s boyfriend for almost four years now. They said the two of them had gone out when he was four, and Yoochun had the intentions of courting Jaejoong, although given the situations, it seemed very highly unlikely that Jaejoong would accept. He was satisfied with being a single parent.
That was why Moonbin called him Yoochun-nii. He called Junsu with the suffix -ji because he was Jaejoong’s little brother, and he should call his mother’s brother uncle, right?
Jaejoong shook his head. “He’s staying here to look after you, mister. After all, you’re still a little kid. I can’t leave you alone in here. Who knows what’ll happen.”
“Aw, shucks,” Moonbin pouted. “I’m not a little kid. I’m already eight. And you’re only twenty-four. You’re not much older than I am.”
“Whatever,” Jaejoong shrugged nonchalantly. “What I said is final, and nothing you say can change it. After all, we’ve bought the tickets for two people already.”
“Okay,” Moonbin nodded, and finished off his cookies, and vanilla. Jaejoong had always liked vanilla, and he often wondered why, before he finally asked Junsu about it.
According to Junsu, Jaejoong was never a person who liked sweet things. He would never eat creams, cakes, and other sugary things. But ever since he met someone-who Junsu said was his father-things changed. He started liking vanilla in particular, because it somehow reminded him of that person.
Jaejoong wiped his hands on his pants, and stood up. “I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me, okay?”
Moonbin watched silently as Jaejoong walk into the kitchen. When he was out of sight, he quickly got up, and rushed to the corridor, in search of Junsu.
“Junsu-ji!”
“Yes?” Junsu poked his head out of his room and looked at Moonbin. “Is there something wrong?”
“Oh, nothing wrong, really,” Moonbin grinned a little at him. “It’s just that okaa-san told me he’s going to Paris tomorrow. Aren’t you coming?”
“Well, no. I have to look after you,” Junsu replied. “Who’ll drive you to school if I go? You know he doesn’t let you take the train yet…”
“Mm…” Moonbin sighed. “Okay then… by the way, can I borrow your laptop, Junsu-ji? I need to work on something for my assignment,” he smiled sweetly.
“I thought elementary school students don’t need to use computers yet?” Junsu blinked at him. “But okay, you can use it. Just don’t forget to turn it off later, okay?”
“Okay!” Moonbin agreed happily. “Are you going somewhere?”
“Yeah… I need to go shop for some things for your okaa-san,” Junsu smiled at him. “Do you want something from the convenience store?”
“I want chocolate ice cream,” Moonbin said. “I’m sick of vanilla already,” he stuck his tongue out.
Junsu laughed his unique laughter. “That’s funny. Your okaa-san loves vanilla very much.”
“It’s because he loves it too much that I’m sick of it,” Moonbin rolled his eyes. “But don’t tell okaa-san that. If he sulks and refuses to bake me cookies, I’ll be damned.”
“No worries,” Junsu grinned. “Well then, I’ll be going now. See you later.”
Moonbin waved at him cheerfully. As soon as Junsu was out of sight, he rushed inside Junsu’s room, locked the door, and turned on his laptop.
He had never been in Junsu or Yoochun’s room, because he slept in Jaejoong’s room, and on his bed as well. While waiting for the system to load, he looked around the room, and noticed that there were pictures of the three of them, and two other people he didn’t know.
“Hm…” Moonbin frowned as he took a picture of three people. One was his mother, another was a good-looking tall man who was grinning as he stood beside his mother, and the last was another good-looking man who was smiling almost proudly at the camera while he had his arms wrapped around his mother’s waist.
“Huh? Who are they?” he wondered to himself. He flipped the picture, and found words scribbled on the back with black ink.
With Yunho-yah and Changminnie during a school trip. 1999.
“Yunho-yah… Changminnie…” Moonbin read the names aloud. “Yunho-yah? Was he okaa-san’s lover or something? Or maybe…” he gasped. “He’s my father?”
He put the picture back to its rightful place to create no suspicion, and quickly started a search engine, and opened an airline’s website. He typed in the two names, and pressed search.
“Jung Yunho and Shim Changmin. Whoa, luckily there are two names so I don’t get them mistaken,” Moonbin commented to himself. “Owner of a large company in Korea. Hm…”
“Why the hell did okaa-san leave him then?” he thought to himself. He found the two men’s profile, and jotted them down on a notepad he always carried around. He also got the company’s address, and jotted it down.
He closed the page, and moved to the airline’s page. A devious grin formed on his face when he booked a plane ticket for a flight early tomorrow morning. He had used his own name, but used his mother’s credit card to pay for it.
“Now, all I have to do is delete the evidence,” Moonbin said as he erased the links to the sites he visited in the history. “And make sure okaa-san didn’t notice it before my plan takes place. Now, I also need some money…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“You’re leaving already?” Moonbin asked as he hugged his mother tight. “Don’t forget to get me some chocolate, okay?”
“Aish, you,” Jaejoong rolled his eyes. “Your okaa-san is away on a trip to Europe and all you can think is eating chocolate?”
“But I like chocolate,” Moonbin pouted. “So don’t forget.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t,” Jaejoong agreed, and patted Moonbin’s head. “Be good while I’m away, okay? Don’t give too much trouble to Junsu.”
“Yah, since when did I give trouble to anyone?” Moonbin defended himself as he huffed indignantly. “Of course I’ll be good. I always am.”
“Ha, who taught you to be so haughty, little guy?” Jaejoong shook his head. “Must be that jerk’s genes…”
Moonbin looked at him in wonder. He didn’t dare bring up the matter yet because he wasn’t supposed to know. He needed his mother to be unsuspicious for his plans to work.
But, when he remembered what he saw on the picture, he really wondered why Jaejoong suddenly hated the guy so much, especially since they all looked so happy.
“He even called him Yunho-yah…” he thought to himself.
“Well, anyway, have a nice trip!” Moonbin waved at him and at Yoochun who were taking their luggage and stuffing them into the trunk of the taxi.
“Now, go get ready, Moonbin-kun,” Jaejoong said as he leaned down to kiss Moonbin’s forehead. “You don’t want to be late to school today.”
“Okay. I’ll see you soon!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Moonbin-kun, where are you going?” a woman asked when she saw Moonbin walking through the corridor, carrying his backpack with him. “Don’t you have a class right now?”
“Oh, sensei, something came up and I have to go for a while,” Moonbin put on his best puppy eyes. “Can you please not tell anyone? I promise I’ll be safe.”
The teacher pondered about it for a while. “Where are you going then?”
“A friend needs me. His father wants to see me. We’ve been friends since we were little, and his father wanted to see us together. He’s in the hospital right now,” Moonbin sobbed. “I need to go, but I don’t want to make anyone worry, so I don’t want to tell anyone.”
“Aw,” the teacher sniffled. “Okay then, you may go. Please be careful, and please say hello to his father for me.”
“Will do! Thank you, sensei!” Moonbin beamed at her and smiled gratefully, bowing a little. “I’ll see you!” he added, and dashed out of the school grounds.
“Aw, that kid is so sweet…” the teacher sighed to herself.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Excuse me, I am Kim Moonbin, and I believe I’ve booked a ticket to Seoul,” Moonbin said as he walked up to the counter. “I’m eight, by the way, but don’t worry, I can take care of myself.”
“Ah, you’re the son of… Kim Jaejoong, then?” the clerk asked.
“Yes, I am,” Moonbin beamed at her. “He can’t come with me to Korea, but my father’s there, so don’t worry!”
“Oh, okay,” the clerk nodded, and produced a ticket. “Here you go. Give me the fiscal money, and I’ll take care of it for you,” she offered with a smile.
“Thank you, onee-san!” Moonbin smiled at her, and gave the amount of money needed.
He waved at her, and walked to the waiting room. Somehow, he felt excited, knowing that he was only a few hours away from seeing his biological father.
Minutes later, when the flight was called, he boarded the plane, and sighed in relief. He could only hope that no one noticed him missing too soon.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Chunnie,” Jaejoong called as he looked over in worry. “Do you think it’s safe to leave them alone?”
“Don’t worry,” Yoochun put an arm around Jaejoong’s shoulders. “Junsu can take good care of your son. I’m sure of it.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust him…” Jaejoong frowned. “But I have a feeling something is going to happen…”
“Really?” Yoochun lifted an eyebrow. “Do you want me to call back to Japan to check on things?”
Suddenly, as if on cue, Jaejoong’s cell phone rang.
“Moshi moshi?” Jaejoong answered as he picked the phone up.
“Hyung!”
“Junsu? What’s wrong?”
“Moonbin’s missing! His teacher said he’s off to visit a friend’s sick father, but no one knew of it. Oh, and some of your money in your secret stash is missing!”
“What!?” Jaejoong squeaked. “But-what-how… how could he…?”
“I’m not sure. He used my laptop yesterday…”
“The picture!” Jaejoong exclaimed suddenly. “He must’ve seen the picture! Aish, I should’ve burned that darned picture! And he’s just that eager to meet his father!”
“So-“
“I’m going to Korea.”
“What?” Yoochun asked in surprise. “Korea? Why?”
“Moonbin’s there,” Jaejoong heaved a deep sigh. “I have to find him before he finds that man.”
“But-“
“You don’t have to come if you don’t want to. As soon as everything is settled, I’m coming back,” Jaejoong said resolutely. “I can’t let anything happen to him.”
“Jae…” Yoochun sighed. “I’m coming.”
“Really? You are?”
“Yeah,” Yoochun smiled. “After all, I see him as my son as well.”
“Oh, thank you so much, Chunnie,” Jaejoong hugged him. “I’ll book the tickets right away. Su, do you want to come as well? If you do, please book a flight as well.”
“Right away.”
Jaejoong hung up, and stared at his cell phone. “Moonbin-ah… why do you want to see him so much?”
Yoochun fell silent, and looked away from the troubled mother. “Maybe… that’s because he knew his father is not at fault…” he thought to himself.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Oo... so this is Korea,” Moonbin mumbled to himself as he walked out of the airport. “I should thank okaa-san for teaching me Korean although we live in Japan.”
He raised a hand and waved at a taxi that was passing by. Quickly hopping in, he asked to be driven to the Jung Corporation, and claimed to be the son of the owner wanting to see him after a long trip to America.
The trip to America was a lie, but being the son of the owner wasn’t. Or at least, in a few years, it would be true.
“Thank you, sir,” Moonbin said as he paid the taxi driver-he made sure to exchange those yen to won-and walked into the company building.
“Halt, what do you want?” a security officer asked.
“Excuse me, I’m the son of Jung Yunho, and I wish to see him,” Moonbin smiled at him.
“Ha, do you think you can fool me? Young Master Yunho doesn’t have a son! He isn’t even married yet!” the security officer sneered at him.
Moonbin rolled his eyes. “Don’t you know why? Because he had me with my mother, and then my mother went to Japan, leaving him. That’s why he doesn’t marry.”
“You-“
“Wait,” a voice interrupted, and Moonbin turned to see him.
“Ah, Changminnie-shii!” Moonbin quickly recognized him as the boy who stood beside his mother in the picture. “You’re Jung Yunho-shii’s cousin, aren’t you?”
“Um, my name’s just Changmin, actually,” Changmin corrected. “How do you know my name?”
“I saw a picture of you, Yunho-shii, and my mother in my uncle’s bedroom,” Moonbin shrugged.
“Your mother?” Changmin was taken aback.
“Yep, yep, Kim Jaejoong is my mother!” Moonbin said happily.
“What? Jaejoong-hyung!?” Changmin nearly choked. “Wait, wait, what does this mean? You’re the son of Jaejoong-hyung and Yunho-hyung? But-“
“They’re both males, yes I know, but umma isn’t exactly a male…” Moonbin shrugged. “Now, can I go see my appa?”
“You’re here to see him?” Changmin asked. “Wow, how brave of you! Where’s your umma?”
“He doesn’t want me to see appa, so I had to sneak here,” Moonbin admitted. “Can I come in? It’s hot outside.”
“Of course, let’s go in, and we’ll talk in my office,” Changmin offered.
As they walked into the building, a middle-aged man saw them.
“Changmin?” the man asked. “Who is this?”
“Ah, Ki Hae-shii,” Changmin greeted. “This is Moonbin, the son of Yunho-hyung and Jaejoong-hyung.”
“Son? They have a son?” Ki Hae was taken aback. “Then… where is Jaejoong?”
“He’s in Paris with Yoochun-hyung,” Moonbin answered. “They’re fashion designers, so they occasionally go to Paris. I snuck here because umma doesn’t want me to go see appa.”
“Oh my goodness…” Ki Hae sighed deeply as he massaged his temple. “What have I done?”
Onto the Past
In the next part, we’ll see what happened in the past that caused Yunjae to break up :3 and what Yoochun meant before they went to Korea.
Now, onto some Japanese vocab :D I’m a little better at Japanese than Korean, so yeah…
Okaa-san is mother :3 I’m sure we all know that. Itadakimasu is like bon appétit :D -nii is similar to -hyung while -ji is what you call your uncle :3 onee-san is similar to nuna, I guess
And I suppose we all know sensei is teacher? :D
