A/N: my brain is fried.  Totally fried.  I didn’t know what made me write this, but I was suddenly reminded of a story that got me thinking.

Anyway, enjoy :3

For a Cup of Coffee

Jaejoong sat in his office even at lunch break, a box of lunch on his desk, but far away from his precious documents.  His glasses were in place, and his gaze was fixed on the monitor of his laptop, carefully watching the rise and fall of the sales, and the stock market.

He sighed audibly as he picked up his chopsticks, and shoved a piece of meat into his mouth, chewing it hurriedly.  He quickly put the box back down, and started writing notes on a blank piece of paper, noting every details of the graph for the last three weeks.

Working in an office was never his style before.  But when his friend asked him to be his secretary and sales manager, he couldn’t say anything but yes.

“Jae,” a voice called from the door of his office.  “Do you want to have lunch together?”

“Not now, Yunho-yah,” Jaejoong shook his head, eyes not leaving the monitor even for one second.  Years of practice had enabled him to multi-task excellently.  “I’m busy.”

“But you’re always busy,” Yunho complained.  “It’s not healthy to overwork yourself.”

“I’m not,” Jaejoong snapped.  “Now, if you don’t have anything to say or report, please leave.  I’d rather finish this early so I can relax later.”

Yunho fell silent for a few moments.  “Do you want some coffee?”

“Not now, Yunho,” Jaejoong repeated, sighing heavily.  “I’ll talk to you after work, okay?  Just… not now.  I’m busy!”

Yunho looked down dejectedly, and nodded.  “Okay,” he said.  “But if you change your mind, I’ll be waiting at the coffee shop down the road.”

Jaejoong watched as Yunho closed the door behind him, and sighed.  Taking off his glasses, he pinched the bridge of nose, and put them back on.

He had finished the report he was working on, but there was only thirty minutes left from the extended lunch break.  Because the boss was going to be away, they were given a two-hour lunch break.

He looked at the small building down the road from his window.  “I wonder if Yunho’s still there…”

Suddenly, there was a knock on his door.  A young man walked in, carrying a glass jar, and a card.  He placed it on Jaejoong’s desk, and excused himself.

Jaejoong studied the glass jar.  There were two golf balls, pebbles, and sand inside.  And the sand was drenched in something blackish in color.

He took the card, and read what was said.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Yunho sat on a chair, sipping his coffee slowly.  A waitress came over, and looked at him worriedly.

“Sir,” she called.  “Normal office lunch break time is almost over,” she said, pointing at the wall clock hanging above the door.  “And this is your sixth cup already.  I think your companion isn’t coming.”

Yunho sighed, and placed his empty cup down.  “He will come,” he said, trying to mask his sadness and worry.  “And please give me another cup of coffee.”

“But sir-“

“Make it two.”

The two of them quickly turned, and saw a figure walking inside through the door.  He quickly sat down in front of Yunho, and looked at them.  “What?”

“No, no,” the waitress shook her head quickly.  “I’ll be back with your orders.”

“You came,” Yunho smiled as he took Jaejoong’s hand in his.  “Did you receive my card?”

“I did,” Jaejoong confirmed.  “I’m sorry.”

Yunho pulled him forward, and kissed him chastely.  “Just don’t overwork yourself ever again.”

“Okay,” Jaejoong agreed.  “Oh, by the way, I love you too, Yunnie.”

The jar is like your life.

The golf balls are important things in your life.

Pebbles are the less significant things in your life.

Sand, is the small things in your life.

If you put pebbles and sand in first before the golf balls, they won’t fit.

But, no matter how full your life is…

There’s always space for a cup of coffee with your beloved.

I love you, Kim Jaejoong.
