My Boyfriends and I - Part Two
“That really happened?” Changmin asked, frowning slightly as he eyed Jaejoong while Junsu looked at them lazily. “So that means it’s true?” he asked again.
“How would I know?” Jaejoong shrugged. “I met him for one minute only! You can’t expect me to know in such a short amount of time,” he added, defending himself.
“No, I mean, the rumor that he’s snappy,” Changmin corrected himself. “Wait, that was what I meant in the first place and you got it! What do you mean how would you know!?” he demanded when he realized that Jaejoong had got what he meant in the first place.
“I guess,” Jaejoong shrugged again and leaned back in his seat. “I mean, he looks like he’s easy to anger, but he doesn’t look like it yesterday,” he commented.
“Are you talking about someone I know?” Junsu asked finally, looking up from his tray of shrimp roll to stare at the two.
“Proof that he wasn’t listening,” Changmin muttered as he shook his head. “No repeat for you,” he added and went back to eating his lunch, occasionally stealing a piece of dumpling from Jaejoong’s tray.
“Oi Min, my brother’s skinny enough without you stealing his food,” Junsu reprimanded as he snatched the dumpling and put it back on Jaejoong’s tray before taking a shrimp roll from his tray and a piece of browned beef from Changmin’s tray to put on Jaejoong’s.
“Thanks, Su-ie,” Jaejoong said with a smile, and smiled sweetly at Changmin, making him grumble because he knew Jaejoong knew he’d not have the heart to steal more food from his tray.
“Hey Su,” Yoochun called when he saw him and walked over. “There’s practice after school today, so be sure to come,” he reminded and patted Junsu’s back.
“Okay,” Junsu gave an ok sign with his hand and went back to his lunch as Yoochun went on his quest to find Yunho who had apparently disappeared after they finished their lunch.
They finished their lunch quickly and went separate ways since they had different classes for the period right after lunch. Junsu and Changmin walked together since their classes were at the east wing while Jaejoong’s was at the west wing.
Jaejoong walked towards his locker to retrieve his books and continued to his next class, Geometry. It wasn’t his forte, but he wasn’t weak either.
He sat at the back corner as usual and prepared his textbook and notebook so he didn’t have to rush when the lesson had already started. He saw someone sitting beside him but he couldn’t really see who it was since he was still focusing on taking out his book. Only after he finished was he able to look at the person.
And then he nearly fell off his chair.
“What are you doing here!?” he demanded in a hushed tone, not wanting to alarm any of his classmates as he pointed an accusing finger at Yunho.
“Someone else sat in my seat,” he answered simply, pointing at his usual seat by the window which was now occupied by a female student who probably wished to sit beside him. “Or do you hate me?”
“Ah… no,” Jaejoong quickly shook his head and eyed Yunho critically.
“Is there something stuck on my face?” Yunho asked again, looking at Jaejoong who was still staring at him until he was caught red-handed.
“No…” he mumbled. “I was just… thinking about something,” he added quickly, then sighed. “This is not good,” he thought to himself. “Have my skills gone rusty after not being used for long?”
“Ah…” Yunho started then, and Jaejoong looked at him curiously. “Are you still mad about the incident this morning?” he asked, looking at him in worry.
“Eh?” Jaejoong was surprised to hear that. Was he really the same person he met this morning?
“I’m sorry if I offended you in any way,” Yunho bowed at him then, and Jaejoong got even more confused. “Please forgive me.”
“Ah… of- of course,” Jaejoong nodded dumbly. He couldn’t think of any other way of responding to that. “Don’t- don’t worry about it,” he added.
And he spent the whole Geometry period staring at Yunho and wondering if his eyes and ears were playing tricks on him, or if he was only imagining things.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Okay, so you met again with Yunho in Geometry, and he behaves differently from the two times you met him,” Changmin summarized the account Jaejoong had given.
“Yeah… that’s basically it,” Jaejoong nodded, a little unsure of himself. “I’m starting to doubt myself, Minnie-ah… what happened?” he asked, frowning.
Changmin sighed before he pulled Jaejoong into a hug and patted his back reassuringly. “Whatever happened, I’m sure it’s not your fault… and I’m sure nothing happened to you, so don’t worry, alright?”
Jaejoong continued to frown, but eventually nodded. “I guess,” he mumbled to himself. “What do you think is wrong with him?” he asked then.
“Hm,” Changmin mumbled in thought. “What do you think about split personality?” he suggested. “I heard when someone has problems, they often develop alter egos, and sometimes it’s not just one.”
“We’ll have to ask Yoochun about that,” Jaejoong deducted. “If he has no problem, then it mustn’t be split personality… I mean, how would you develop them if you’re perfectly fine?”
“It’s a disorder hyung. Anyone can develop it. And it’s also possible that he’s suffering schizophrenia,” Changmin muttered thoughtfully as he tapped his chin.
“Don’t jump into conclusions, Min,” Jaejoong shook his head. “I’ll ask Junsu to ask Yoochun later. Thank you for your time.”
Changmin merely smiled and patted Jaejoong’s back again. “Just call me anytime you need me.”
“Right. See you.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Junsu?” Jaejoong called as soon as the phone was picked up. “Junsu, can I ask you to do a favor?”
“What is it hyung?” Junsu asked, sounding interested since Jaejoong rarely asked Junsu to do him a favor-even the smallest one like going to the grocery store.
“You’re friends with Yoochun, aren’t you? I want you to ask him if he knows whether Yunho has a problem in school or at home,” Jaejoong explained quickly. “Don’t ask me why. I’m doing a simple research on him regarding the rumors to see if I can clear it,” he sighed tiredly.
Junsu giggled at the other end of the line and Jaejoong felt a very strong urge to hang up.
“Aw hyung,” Junsu squealed. “Don’t hide the fact you’re interested in him!”
“Wha- no!” Jaejoong denied quickly. “I was only wondering why he seemed so different all the time. Minnie-ah suggested it to be split personalities, but I’m not sure so I wanted to make sure!”
“That still means you’re interested in him!” Junsu continued to giggle like a school girl who had just heard her friend admit that she liked someone.
“Believe whatever you want, Su-ie,” Jaejoong sighed exasperatedly.
“Okay, I’ll ask Yoochun-hyung,” Junsu agreed finally. “Why don’t you just ask Yunho yourself, though?” he inquired.
“I don’t want to make him think I’m being nosy,” Jaejoong sighed again, and felt like he had gotten older by five years. “And it would be awkward to interrogate him while he doesn’t know anything.”
“Ah I see. So you’re still keeping it as a secret?” Junsu asked, and Jaejoong imagined Junsu raising his eyebrow as he did so.
“So far, the only ones in our school who knew are you and Minnie-ah,” Jaejoong answered, nodding thoughtfully as he bit the tip of his glasses, looking at the folders in front of him.
“Right-o, then, I’ll do my best to help you,” Junsu exclaimed resolutely and hung up.
Jaejoong sighed as he looked at the folders again and slumped in his chair. “So tiring…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“So, what have you learned over the weekend?” Changmin asked as he sat across Jaejoong in their table during lunch break, as usual. Junsu hadn’t come yet, so there was still some silence between them.
“Nothing much,” Jaejoong shook his head dejectedly. “According to Junsu, Yoochun said Yunho was by no way troubled or anything. He seemed to be perfectly fine, and the way I see them, I think so too.”
“Then, it’s not personality disorder?” Changmin asked, lifting an eyebrow.
“Like you said, it could happen to anyone, and I can’t be sure yet,” Jaejoong sighed, slumping in his seat again, poking his food with his chopsticks. “I don’t want to jump into conclusions.”
“Neither do I,” Changmin mused glumly. “But we will know the truth behind all this, won’t we?”
“Of course we will,” Jaejoong nodded, smiling tiredly at Changmin. “We will, even if takes a long time.”
“Hey hyung!” Junsu called out as he bounded over them and nearly dropped his tray on the table, but refrained from doing so. “How are you two? You look so tired this morning, are you sure you’re okay?” he asked, placing his palm on Jaejoong’s forehead.
“No, Su-ie, I don’t have fever,” Jaejoong shook his head and pried Junsu’s hand away.
“Liar! Your forehead feels hot!” Junsu accused and forced Jaejoong to stay still while Jaejoong frantically tried to get away from Junsu.
“Ah!” he exclaimed when he felt himself losing balance and tumbling backwards, bringing Junsu with him. He screwed his eyes shut as he prepared himself to hit the floor, but he didn’t.
“Careful,” Yunho said as he held Jaejoong’s back and kept him from falling while Yoochun pulled Junsu up so he was sitting straight in his seat. “What were the two of you doing?”
“Ah!” Junsu exclaimed in surprise, and used the opportunity to place his palm on Jaejoong’s forehead again. “You lied! You told me you were fine! Did you stay up all night going through the files all weekend?”
“Um…” Jaejoong mumbled, deliberately avoiding Junsu’s gaze.
“Hyung!” Changmin protested as well. “I knew you’re curious, but you don’t have to do that!”
“Alright, I’m sorry!” Jaejoong threw his hands up in defeat as he sat up again. “I’ll take a rest today. Happy?”
“No,” Junsu and Changmin replied simultaneously and Jaejoong pouted.
“What do you want me to do then?” he asked, huffing as he poked his food with his chopsticks again, and shoved a piece of meat into his mouth, chewing on it slowly.
“Eat more, go to the nurse office right away, and sleep the whole day,” Junsu stated simply.
“What!? Do you want me to turn into a pig!?” Jaejoong demanded, nearly choking on his food.
“Bleh, you’re a toothpick now. Doing that once will only turn you into a pole.”
Changmin laughed out loud at that while Jaejoong pouted again and decided to shove more food into his mouth instead.
Lunch break was passed almost in peace. Junsu kept nagging Jaejoong, telling him to go to the nurse office immediately after he finished his lunch, and to not do any work for two days. Changmin kept lecturing Jaejoong about restraining himself, and Yoochun and Yunho watched in slight amusement.
“Ergh, why must this happen to me?” Jaejoong grumbled as he walked out of the nurse office after asking for some medicine for headache and light fever.
“You’re not going to stay?” Yunho asked when he saw Jaejoong walking out of the office, and quickly went to stand beside him.
“No.”
“Won’t Junsu be mad at you later?”
“Please don’t remind me of that. I’m feeling guilty as it is.”
Yunho shrugged and walked him to their next class together, one of the few classes Jaejoong didn’t have with Changmin. The late bell hadn’t rung yet, so they took their time walking there.
They took their seats at the corner, and Jaejoong sighed tiredly and rested his head on his folded arms on the desk.
“What did you do?” Yunho asked curiously as he patted Jaejoong’s shoulder lightly, alerting him of their teacher’s arrival.
“I was just doing my job,” Jaejoong mumbled grimly.
“And that is?” Yunho asked again.
“You’re not supposed to know.”
“Oh. Is it about me then?”
“Mmm…”
“You’re curious, aren’t you?” Yunho asked, a grin on his face. “You’re so cute.”
“Are you flirting with me?” Jaejoong looked tiredly at him, still resting his head on his arms.
“What do you think?” Yunho said with a small smile.
“You are.”
“Believe whatever you want.”
“Pssh, that was my line,” Jaejoong crossed his arms in front of his chest and glared at Yunho accusingly, while the latter merely laughed in reply.
“Do you have any plans tomorrow?” Yunho asked suddenly, looking at Jaejoong who was still sulking over his stolen line.
“Apart from being a pig all day, no, I don’t,” Jaejoong answered, still unsatisfied at the fact that he was told to sleep all the time since he lacked sleep during the weekend.
“What do you say to a cup of coffee?” Yunho offered, a small smile still spread on his lips.
“Are you asking me out?”
“Must you always ask the obvious?”
“Yes.”
“Is that a yes to my first or second question?”
“Both.”
“You’re strange.”
“So are you,” Jaejoong snorted, and covered his mouth while he was laughing.
“Don’t do that,” Yunho said softly, prying Jaejoong’s hand away from his mouth and held it down. “I want to see your smile.”
“You’re being sappy,” Jaejoong accused, blushing slightly.
“Junsu told me you like it,” Yunho countered.
“He did?” Jaejoong asked, mentally noting himself to remember scolding Junsu for telling that to others.
“Mm, so would you like to go out with me?”
“Didn’t you ask that already?”
“It’s different this time.”
Jaejoong thought over it for a good full minute before he realized what Yunho meant.
“Oh,” he mumbled.
“Oh indeed. Took you long enough,” Yunho commented teasingly.
“Shut up.”
“So, your answer is?”
“I,” Jaejoong started, blushing again. “I don’t mind.”
Yunho grinned and kissed the top of Jaejoong’s head. “Wait for me after school,” he said softly.
Jaejoong nodded and smiled at him. This way, he killed two birds with one stone. He now dated one of the most popular guys in school, and it would make it easier for him to investigate.
“Ah, but I-”
“Mr. Jung, Mr. Kim, if you two are not willing to listen to my lecture, there’s always a place for you in the detention room.”
“Sorry Mr. Han.”
End of My Boyfriends and I - Part Two
