Summary: Life has never been easy for one Kim Jaejoong.  He fell in love with the one who saved him from falling a year back, but only knew his name.  After he met the person, the person thought he liked his good friend instead.  Why did Lady Luck seem to hate him so much?

A/N: finally, I wrote the eleventh chapter XDDD *dances around happily* the next update will probably take long as well, but I hope not as long :3 I can’t believe it took me half a month to do this *gets shot*

Chapter Eleven - New Year’s Eve

Ever since the announcement of the engagement, and the night when Jaejoong finally told Yunho that he liked Yunho and not Seven instead, they had gone to a series of dates-partly because they were forced by their mothers, and partly because Jaejoong was forced by Yunho.

U-Know had protested about Yunho being a retard every time he had just got home from a date with Jaejoong because he’d grin idiotically and he’d keep grinning until he fell asleep.

The day Jaejoong told him he liked him, Yunho had danced happily around the house like a mad cow and U-Know locked himself in his room with Hero, not letting his boyfriend be corrupted by the madman who claimed himself to be his brother, but was more like a lunatic.

Hero hadn’t protested about anything yet, since he liked to see Yunho so happy like that *coughmakingafooloutofhimselfcough* and was somehow always there to watch Yunho, which made U-Know a little miffed.

And then, New Year’s Eve came…

“Are you sure we should let the tree be?” U-Know asked as he looked over to the still decorated Christmas tree in the middle of their living room.  “Sure, it’s only six days after Christmas, but…”

“It’s a waste if we throw it away so soon,” Hero shrugged as he sat on the armchair, watching the others work.  “We’re having the party outside, anyway, right?”

“I thought it’s going to be on the patio?” U-Know asked, turning to look at Hero.

“It’s still outside, U-Know,” Hero sighed and shook his head.

“Hey you two!  Stop lazing around and help!” Yunho called as he walked into the living room carrying a cool box filled with ice and meat, and stopped.

“What do you want us to do?” U-Know asked.

“Hm… wait,” Yunho thought it over.  “Jae, do you need help?”

“No, I’m okay!” Jaejoong answered from the kitchen.  “Why don’t you help the kids set up the grill?  I’m afraid they’ll throw the charcoals at each other instead!”

“So,” Yunho started as he looked at U-Know and Hero again.

“We’re setting up the grill?” Hero asked.

“No, you’re going to be the damage control team.”

“Here’s the meat,” Jaejoong said as he placed the plates of neatly sliced beef on the table right beside the grill.  “Are you sure you can do this?”

“Of course!” Yoominsu exclaimed excitedly as they stood by beside the grill, chopsticks in their hands as they prepared to throw the meat on the grill.

“Remember, one at a time!” Jaejoong warned, but as soon as he turned his back, the three dumped all the meat on the plate onto the grill.

“Hey, are the dishes finished yet?” Yunho asked as he stood beside Jaejoong and lifted an eyebrow when he saw Yoominsu attacking the grill like hyenas.

“I left them in the kitchen to cool a little, but I might need to re-heat them later,” Jaejoong sighed.  “Your parents are away?” he asked, looking around.

“They’re at my grandparents’ house,” Yunho said, placing an arm around Jaejoong’s shoulder, and led him inside the house to make sure he didn’t see Yoominsu barbarically flipping the meat on the grill, making some pieces fall into the heap of charcoal, and some pieces to get burnt.

“Please say thank you for letting us have the party here,” Jaejoong requested as he entered the house with Yunho, and sighed in content as the warmth from the radiator reached him.

“You’re easily cold,” Yunho pointed out.

“Thanks, Mr. Obvious,” Jaejoong rolled his eyes, but quickly laughed and leaned his head on Yunho’s shoulder.  “Do you have something I can borrow?”

“I’ll go get my jacket,” Yunho offered, and walked off to his room.

“Okay, don’t take-kids!  What the hell are you doing!?”

Despite the initial commotion because Yoosumin had insisted that they didn’t do anything wrong, and Yunho mourned over the loss of meat they could have eaten, the party went along smoothly, with the dishes Jaejoong had prepared earlier laid on the tables, and drinks were beside them.

They were now sitting outside, on the backyard of the Jung residence, each holding onto a plastic plate with various foods on it and a fork.

“Here,” Yunho said as he sat down beside Jaejoong and handed him a glass of iced honey lime juice, something that Jaejoong had grown fond of ever since that one time they drank it in a local café.

“Thank you,” Jaejoong accepted it gratefully, and put it down on the ledge beside him, watching as the kids and U-Know and Hero played with fireworks after they finished eating, and announced that they needed some time to let the food go down before they eat more.

“You’re welcome,” Yunho shrugged, and sat closer to Jaejoong.  “Are you cold?”

“No, not really,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “Better.  The jacket helps,” he smiled.

“Okay,” Yunho nodded.  He was suddenly remembered of their first real date-not that set up date Seven did-and how it was so similar to this one.

“Yunho!”

Yunho looked up when he heard his name being called, and almost stopped breathing when he saw who called him.

Jaejoong was standing a few meters away from him, panting hardly since he had been running all the way there, strands of hair sticking to his face due to his sweat, but still looking lovely.

“Hey Jae,” Yunho greeted as he got up from his seat on the outer ledge of the fountain and walked over to the other guy.  “Come here,” he motioned.

He directed Jaejoong so he could sit on the ledge, and took in his appearance.  He was wearing a sleeveless black hoodie with blue baggy jeans pants.

“Wait here, I’ll get you something to drink,” Yunho said as he smiled down at him, and walked off to the nearest vending machine while Jaejoong simply sat there, regaining his breath.

“Here,” Yunho walked back carrying a can of cold orange juice and gave it to Jaejoong, sitting beside him.  “Why were you running here?” he asked.

“Because I was late, why else?” Jaejoong glared at him, and opened the can, sighing before he raised it to his lips and downed it almost hurriedly.

“You still don’t need to rush,” Yunho shrugged.  “I can wait.”

Jaejoong glared at him again, and pinched his arm until Yunho yelped in pain before he let go.

“Serves you right,” Jaejoong huffed, lowering the can.  “Didn’t I tell you to be a little selfish!?  You should be mad when someone’s late!”

“Aw, but I can’t get mad at you,” Yunho pouted.

“Stop that, it’s disturbing,” Jaejoong frowned.

Yunho pouted even more, and Jaejoong burst out laughing.

“Okay, stop that.  You look like a fat hamster!” Jaejoong laughed, holding onto his can of juice almost desperately as he tried his best to stifle his laughter.

“Or a hamster in the middle of chewing,” Jaejoong added, grinning widely.

Suddenly, Yunho leaned down and kissed him softly on the lips.

“Yunho?” Jaejoong blinked.

Yunho kissed him again briefly.  “I’m glad I can hear you laugh again.  You rarely do lately.”

“I do?” Jaejoong blinked again, now a little surprised.

“Yes,” Yunho nodded firmly.

“Okay… I’ll try,” Jaejoong shrugged.

“Do you feel hot?” he asked, looking around.  It was still summer, so the air was hot and dry.  He was thankful they had sun block lotion back at home.

“Not really, the juice helped,” Jaejoong shook his head.

“That’s good,” Yunho said, but stood up anyway.  “Come on let’s go,” he motioned over to the mall, extending his hand towards Jaejoong.

Jaejoong gulped down the last of his juice, and took Yunho’s hand.  “Yeah, let’s go.”

“Kids, be careful with the sparks!” Jaejoong warned when he saw Yoosu bringing their fireworks closer to Changmin and almost hitting him with them.

“Yes umma!” they chorused together.

U-Know and Hero walked back to take another firework from the case near Yunho, and stopped there for a while, looking as if they were going to say something.

Or maybe they really were.

“Hey hyung,” U-Know started almost tentatively as he looked at Jaejoong.

“Yes?” Jaejoong asked back.

“Does that make you my sis-brother-in-law?” U-Know asked nervously.

“Um… maybe it does,” Jaejoong nodded.  “So you’re my brother-in-law too?”

“I guess,” U-Know nodded.  “I’m glad someone in my family, except mother and Hero, can cook.  Whenever they’re away, we always have to suffer food poisoning.”

“Hey!” Yunho protested.  “I resent that!”

But of course it was ignored by the other three.

Jaejoong laughed a little.  “Then call me over, or come over.  I always cook for the kids,” he said, motioning at the three kid adults who were running around the yard.

“Okay,” U-Know agreed.

Hero and U-Know took the fireworks, and went to join Yoosumin again.

“What time is it?” Jaejoong asked the still pouting Yunho who insisted that his cooking wasn’t really that bad, and he only had sent his family to the hospital because of food poisoning twice.

“Ten to twelve,” Yunho said as he looked down at his watch.

“It’s going to be a new year soon,” Jaejoong sighed, looking up at the black sky.  The moon was nowhere in sight, and there were no stars that night.

“Yes,” Yunho mumbled, hugging Jaejoong close to him.  “So much has happened this year, no?”

“Yeah…” Jaejoong agreed.

“The competition, the set up date, the fight, the reconciliation…” Yunho mumbled, listing out the things that had happened.  “The engagement…”

Jaejoong lied his hands atop Yunho’s and leaned back on him.  “How’s your new school?” he asked, setting his plate of food down, and taking his juice.

“Nice,” Yunho shrugged.  “What about you?”

“Still the same old thing,” Jaejoong laughed.  “We agreed that the archery club will be closed as soon as Seven-hyung graduated, and the teachers agreed.”

“Told him,” Yunho laughed.  “Those girls won’t be interested in the archery club anymore anyway,” he shrugged.  “Or maybe we’ll get male members.”

“Are you insulting me?” Jaejoong glared as he looked back at Yunho.

“Never, Boo,” Yunho shook his head, nuzzling Jaejoong’s neck.  “I’m only teasing you.”

That comment earned him a whack on the head.

“You’re violent,” Yunho pointed out.

“You’re stupid,” Jaejoong rolled his eyes.

“It seems that you like to call me that,” Yunho sighed.

“Because that’s a fact,” Jaejoong deadpanned.

“Meanie.”

“Idiot.”

“Jerk.”

“Dork.”

“Are you challenging me into name-calling?” Yunho asked.

“What do you think?”

“Woman.”

“Man with too much estrogen.”

“That’s the same as you.”

“No.  I don’t have manboobs,” Jaejoong stuck his tongue at Yunho.

“Hey!” Yunho protested.  “I already lost them since last year!”

“Whatever, Yunho, whatever.”

“Hyung!  Umma!” Junsu called excitedly as he waved at the two with his firework still in his hand, effectively sending the sparks flying everywhere.

“Yes Su?” Jaejoong asked, turning around to look at Junsu and ignoring the pouting Yunho behind him.  “Is it almost New Year already?”

“Yes!  We’re starting the countdown!” Junsu said excitedly, looking at his watch.

Yoochun quickly stood beside Junsu, U-Know beside Hero, and Changmin beside the table of foods, just because they believed in the tradition that they have to kiss the person who was nearest to them when the fireworks were shot into the sky and New Year arrived.

Yunho and Jaejoong stayed where they were, and waited.

“10…”

“9…”

“8…”

“7…”

“6…”

“5…”

“4…”

“3…”

“2…”

“1…”

“Happy New Year!”

Fireworks shot up into the sky from all around the neighborhood, decorating the dark sky with bright colors as they exploded in the sky, forming flowers.

Junsu squealed happily, and hugged Yoochun before kissing him.

Hero looked up at U-Know with a smile and kissed him.

Changmin laughed a little and proceeded to eat the remaining food.

Jaejoong looked at Yunho and smiled a little.  “Aren’t you going to kiss me?”

“I thought you wanted the honor to do that,” Yunho shrugged.

“It’s not a honor to kiss you,” Jaejoong grinned.

Yunho pouted yet again.

“Fat hamster,” Jaejoong giggled.  “But it is an honor to be kissed by you.”

“Isn’t it the same thing?” Yunho rolled his eyes.

“Are you going to or not?” Jaejoong huffed.

“Whatever you say…”

Yunho leaned down to kiss Jaejoong, and as they did, Yoosumin, along with U-Know and Hero, popped the party poppers and shot out confetti all around them.

Jaejoong squeaked in surprise as he jumped up slightly, and Yunho yelped in surprise as Jaejoong pushed him back.

The two of them successfully fell into the pond behind them.

End of Chapter Eleven

I wrote this in like… an hour or so.  Sorry if this is crappy and shorter than the other chapters, but I tried my best :3
