Chapter Eight - End of the Match
“Jae!” Yunho exclaimed in surprise and happiness when he saw Jaejoong standing at the door while Hankyung asked for some more time from the referee.
“Hey, sorry I’m late,” Jaejoong rushed to the bench, and took off his lab coat. “It took longer than I expected, and I had to run here,” he complained.
“Boo,” Yunho cut him before he could rant some more about how the experiment took longer just because a rat came into the lab from somewhere and the female researchers were shrieking like mad at the top of their lungs while jumping up onto the tables. “Thank you for coming.”
Jaejoong looked at him in confusion when he suddenly called, but then beamed at him. “You’re welcome. I promised, right?” he asked, and looked over at the score board, frowning slightly. “Is there something wrong, Yunho-ah?”
“Huh?” Yunho asked, blinking.
“You weren’t doing well,” Jaejoong pointed out, looking at the board. “If you were, the score would be more than that. Did something happen?”
Great. Now he had officially become Yunho’s mood ring.
“Oh,” Yunho’s mouth formed an ‘o’ in understanding. “I’m sorry. I was worried, that’s all. I should be able to play well now,” he admitted.
“Aish, Yunho-ah, what’s wrong with your head?” Jaejoong patted his head, as if looking for any sign of injuries. “You never bothered before, so why now?” he asked. “Don’t you trust me?”
“I know, I’m sorry,” Yunho bowed down low in apology. “This will never happen again.”
Jaejoong looked at him sternly, watching as Yunho bowed even lower and fidgeted a little, before he burst out laughing. “Aish, Yunho-ah, you’re so cute.”
“What?” Yunho asked, disbelief evident in his tone.
“I was teasing you. Sorry,” Jaejoong grinned. “I’ll be watching from the bench then. Good luck,” he patted Yunho’s shoulder and walked over to the bench, sitting on the space the other members gave him. “Good luck to you too, Hankyung, Seven-hyung!”
The two waved at him, and the referee started the game.
And somewhere in the distance, Jaejoong swore he could hear someone protesting, “Not fair! Why don’t we get to sit on the bench as well!?”
“Well, you’re not involved with any of the members.”
“But still!”
“And the bench wouldn’t hold us all in!”
“Still!”
“The coach didn’t let us anyway!”
“Ha, I bet you’re going to run out of things to say now!”
“But!”
“…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Congratulations!”
Shouts of congratulations echoed throughout the hall as they won the practice game against the neighboring college. It was the first game this year and winning it meant a lot to the members of the basketball team since it would help keep their spirits up to keep winning.
“Congratulations, Yunho-ah, you did well,” Jaejoong smiled at him and handed him his towel and water bottle, which Yunho gladly accepted.
“Ah, here you go,” Jaejoong added as he handed Hankyung and Seven their towels and water bottles. He then sat back on the bench, watching as the three tried to control their breathing.
The other members of the team were gathering in front of the coach, listening to his review on the game-what they should’ve done, what the team lacked, and others. The three quickly joined the other members to listen to their coach and their manager who kept track on the success rate of each member’s shoots, the number of shoots performed, the strong points of each player on the opposing team and others.
The coach finally dismissed them, and walked out of the hall, followed quickly by their manager who refused to stay around with sweaty boys for a long time.
“Is it over?” Jaejoong asked as he looked over at the front door of the hall.
“Yes,” Yunho answered as he walked back towards him. “We’re going back to the club room after this to take a shower before we go home.”
“Oh…” Jaejoong mumbled. “Then I should join the others. They’re waiting at a nearby café,” he said as he stood up, preparing to walk out of the hall.
“Wait,” Yunho tugged on his arm, not letting him go. “Come with me to the club room.”
“Eh? What for?” Jaejoong asked in confusion. “I don’t find being in a room where everyone walk around with only a towel on fun,” he added.
Yunho laughed at that. “It’s not fun. But do your lovely fiancé here a favor?” he asked, trying to smile cutely but failing almost miserably.
“Okay, okay,” Jaejoong waved his hand.
“Good. I’ll get my things ready first,” Yunho stated and walked over to his duffel bag.
“One advice Jae, stay in the corner or something,” Hankyung said as he patted Jaejoong’s shoulders. “The guys tend to be ignorant and walk around half-naked anyway.”
Jaejoong laughed uneasily. “Thanks for the suggestion,” he nodded at him, and watched as he walked over to his duffel bag as well, joining Yunho in packing.
“Hey Jae,” Seven said as he sat near Jaejoong.
“Yes?” Jaejoong asked back.
“Uh, remember the thing I was about to ask you before the try out??” Seven asked.
“Oh… yes, I did. The one that got interrupted because the try out was about to begin, right?” Jaejoong asked, smiling happily as he managed to remember it.
“That’s right.”
“What is it?”
“Um… actually… I-I’d like to know if you’d go out with me this weekend,” Seven said, stumbling over his words a little as his nervousness got the best of him.
“Ah… this weekend…” Jaejoong trailed off, trying his hardest to remember whether he had made plans for that day or not. “I think I’m-“
“Going with me to go see a movie and have dinner,” Yunho butted in as he stood behind Jaejoong, glaring at Seven, but quickly smiled sweetly when Jaejoong looked up at him.
Well, well, if it wasn’t familiar.
“We are?” Jaejoong asked, looking genuinely confused.
“Yes we are, Jae-ah,” Yunho pouted. “How could you forget?”
“Oh… I’m sorry, must’ve been the excitement because of the research,” Jaejoong grinned sheepishly at him. “I’m sorry hyung, but it seems like I’ve made plans.”
“Oh, that’s alright,” Seven smiled at him. “I guess we can arrange it some other time.”
“Okay,” Jaejoong nodded at him, and watched as he moved to pack his things.
Hankyung walked over to Yunho, and tapped his shoulder. “Did you two really make plans?”
“Of course not,” Yunho shrugged.
End of Chapter Eight
I’m working on yet another series. Spoken and Written is now finished, except for the epilogue, and I’m writing a new one based on “The Nanny Diaries” :3 at first I asked if Aqua wanted to write it with me, but she told me to write it myself, since she said I work a lot faster… I guess…
What he meant by familiar referred to the time when they were going to a mall, and were watching a movie. Yunho glared at Yoosumin, but quickly smiled when Jae looked back. Remember that scene? *gets whacked*
The last scene sounds so similar to a scene in “A Debt to Pay”, doesn’t it? So, I would like to credit shultzies as the one who has the idea first :3
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter X3 comments are loved~
