A/N: I’m officially screwed.  I feel like crying now T____T  I took my report card today, and the average score of my science classes (in percentage) is only 68.5 for this semester while I need at least 70 to enroll in Taylor’s College.  Argh.  What do I do now?

On second thought, do any of you know a good college or university that accepts students with scores below 70?  I knew I should’ve chosen an easier school.  Then maybe I can get more than 75… T____T

Chapter Six - Engagement Ring

A few hours after dinner found Jaejoong standing in front of the boys’ room.  He had tried falling asleep-he really had-but he couldn’t.  Later on, he realized it was because a special something was missing.

His Aya was missing.

He got up with a groan after that and after nearly ransacking the whole house, making it look like either a burglar or a storm had come inside, he stood in front of the only place he hadn’t looked.

“She better be inside,” he grumbled as he turned the knob slightly, and was relieved to find the door unlocked.  He would miss a night’s sleep otherwise, trying to open the lock.

Tiptoeing inside, he noticed that Yoochun, Junsu and Yunho were sleeping on the Sultan-sized bed-they agreed on that one after much debating-and Changmin was sleeping on the futon.  He somehow had a feeling that Yoochun and Junsu cheated during the rock-paper-scissors so that they would always sleep on the bed.

He looked around the room and finally spotted the stuffed cat-in Yunho’s arms.  He groaned audibly and walked around the futon to the bed in a mission to extract her from Yunho.

“Patient, Aya-chan.  Must not wake him,” he mumbled to himself as he loosened Yunho’s fingers from Aya and pulled out her limbs one by one, starting from her front right paw.

Just as he was about to pull Aya free, Yunho tightened his grasp on the stuffed doll and Jaejoong slapped his face with his hand, groaning again.  One day he’d be in the Guinness Book of Records as the person who groaned the most in one day.

“Come on, you don’t want to hug her in your sleep,” Jaejoong said softly, as if trying to coax Yunho into releasing her although he knew full well Yunho wouldn’t hear him-he was a heavy sleeper, as proved by the earlier incident outside on the veranda.

The light tugging and hugging then became a full-blown tug-o-war as Jaejoong tried desperately to get Aya.  He looked at the clock that blinked twelve and sighed.  So much for not having his beauty sleep disturbed.

He pulled at it again and stumbled down, bringing Yunho with him.  Yunho’s foot was tangled in the blanket and so he brought it down with him, causing Yoochun and Junsu to shiver at the sudden coolness.  Jaejoong and Yunho fell onto Changmin who shouted in surprise at the sudden attack and banged his head on the dresser nearby when he frantically tried to get up.

Then, like a domino effect, the dresser shook and the box of unnecessary things they had put atop the dresser fell down.  They barely avoided it and the shake caused by the box made the light locker beside the dresser fell towards the door, banging it shut rather loudly.

Needless to say, the security alarm went off.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

The five sat down in the living room, not saying anything after the security guards came and asked what was wrong only to scoff at them when they knew the cause was a stuffed cat.  They got an earful from Mrs. Han before they were dismissed and allowed to go back to sleep.

Yoochun and Junsu were dozing off as they sat there while Changmin grumbled for having his beauty sleep disturbed and Yunho felt guilty for taking the cat in the first place.  Jaejoong pursed his lips as he hugged Aya close to him and bowed his head, as if saying sorry for causing a mess.

“Yoochun-hyung, Junsu-hyung, go back to bed,” Changmin stated and Yoochun and Junsu were more than happy to comply as they stumbled on their way to the bedroom and then they heard a loud thud, signaling the two were already happily back in their dreamland.

“Spill,” Changmin said as he glared at Jaejoong and Yunho who looked like a couple of kids caught while trying to sneak a chocolate cookie jar.

“I forgot to return the cat yesterday,” Yunho started, feeling slightly embarrassed.  “I forgot to bring Bambi with me, so I thought I could borrow her for the night,” he admitted.

Changmin sighed and rubbed his temples.  “You two are hopeless,” with a resigned sigh he dropped his haed, wondering why the two eldest must be the most childish.  Which high school students can’t sleep without a stuffed doll, anyway?

“We’re sorry,” Jaejoong and Yunho said in unison.

“I’ve asked someone to bring Bambi here though, so there’ll be no incident like this in the future,” Yunho said quickly, trying to ease Changmin’s anger.  The two times when Changmin should never be disturbed were when he was eating and sleeping.

“Fine.  If this happens again, I’ll lock the two of you outside,” he threatened and the two quickly nodded their heads, fearing for their lives.

“And seriously, if you can’t sleep without her, you could have just slept with Yunho-hyung.”

Jaejoong choked.

“Not that kind of sleep!”

“Changmin!”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Morning came and the boys were all in a slightly better mood than at midnight.  After they took turn showering in the bathroom-with Changmin being the last since he liked to have the hot water all for himself-they gathered in the dining room, waiting impatiently as Jaejoong finished making some pancakes.

“It’s very good!” Junsu chirped happily as he took a bite of the pancake.  He added some chocolate syrup on top of the butter and continued eating.

“Thank you,” Jaejoong said, bowing his head.  He took his seat and started eating himself.

“Can I have seconds?” Changmin asked, looking up from his empty plate and Jaejoong silently wondered when did he eat the pancake.

“Sure, help yourself,” Jaejoong nodded as he pushed the plate of pancakes towards Changmin so he could take more from it.  In a flash, half of the pancakes on the plate were already transferred to Changmin’s plate.

Yunho paused in mid-chew as he thought of something.  The seer did say that he’d meet his fiancée in this school.  Would that mean that Jaejoong might be it?

He looked over at Jaejoong’s hands and was disappointed when he saw that Jaejoong didn’t wear any rings.  He continued his eating and shrugged mentally.  Oh well, there were still many girls in the school.

They finished the breakfast and Jaejoong went to put the plates in the sink.  The four were waiting for him at the front door and were starting to tap their feet in impatience.

“What took you so long?” Junsu whined as Jaejoong finally walked out of the house and locked it with his set of keys.

“Oh sorry.  I forgot that I left something,” Jaejoong admitted sheepishly.  “Let’s go now,” he added and the others agreed.

As they walked to their school, he could sense the stares given by the other students to the boys, and the glares directed at him.  He rolled his eyes and sighed.  What did he do in his past life to deserve this?  Caused the extinction of mammoth?

The bolder one of the girls started walking towards them, crowding around them and nearly blocking their path altogether.  Luckily they refrained from doing so and Jaejoong felt the urge to run away.

“Good morning oppa!”

“Good morning to you too, uljjang!”

Jaejoong slapped his forehead at the greeting.  How could he forget those demented girls?

“Morning!” they all replied as they smiled at the girls, nearly making them all swoon.  The girls who didn’t dare come forward now all rushed forward to catch sight of them, while Jae-haters and Jae-lovers were having a glaring contest.

“Hello Yunho-oppa,” Seulgi greeted as she walked towards Yunho in long strides that caused her skirt to hike up a little.  “Did you have a good night’s sleep?”

“Hello Seulgi,” Jaejoong greeted cheerfully at the sight of his idol.  How he wished he could be graceful like her.  Everyone in his family knew for a fact that he’s a total klutz.  Remembering the midnight incident only served to make him more self-conscious.

“I wasn’t talking to you,” Seulgi answered curtly and returned her attention to Yunho.  “You look tired.  Did someone bother you while you were asleep?”

Jaejoong felt a knife stabbed his heart-figuratively of course.  But then again, they all did look tired.

“No, I had plenty of sleep,” Yunho shook his head and patted Jaejoong’s head.  “It’s Jaejoong here who missed a lot of hours of sleep,” he added and the thought of something.

Seulgi glared at Jaejoong who looked at Yunho and Seulgi and was confused as to why Seulgi would be mad at him for losing so much sleep.  Did that mean she was worried about him?  Hm, he didn’t know she was talented, graceful, sweet, nice and caring.  How could someone be that perfect?

Jaejoong sighed happily at the thought and Seulgi’s glare intensified as she thought Jaejoong sighed because Yunho was patting his head.

“Hey, may I see your hands?” Yunho asked out of the blue and Seulgi turned to look at him.

“Sure,” she agreed and showed him her hands.  Her fingers were long and slender, but there was no ring.

“Oh, okay,” he said nonchalantly and continued walking, pulling Jaejoong with him as the three trailed behind and Seulgi glared at Jaejoong yet again.

The bolder ones of the students were now trying to get a hold of them and pull them towards the crowd, the Jae-haters and Jae-lovers were still going at it, Yunho looked around at people’s hands trying to catch a glimpse of a ring, the three trailed behind with defeated sighs and Jaejoong was as oblivious as ever.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Looking for someone with a matching ring?” Jaejoong asked in disbelief.  “That’s not an easy task, is it?”

“Nope, definitely not,” Changmin shook his head.

“And we can’t help because we don’t know how the ring looks,” Junsu shrugged.

“Mm,” Jaejoong nodded his head and scratched his chin.

“Hey, I didn’t know you wear a ring,” Yoochun exclaimed when he saw the plain white gold band on Jaejoong’s ring finger.

“Oh?  I always take it off and put it near my bed when I’m cooking,” Jaejoong answered with a smile.  “Nice, isn’t it?”

The three could only nod their heads and shrug it off.  After all, if it was the matching ring, surely Yunho would’ve noticed.

And at the classroom at the other side of the classroom, one Jung Yunho sneezed.

End of Chapter Six

Not much Yunjae in this chapter, but if you squint, you’ll see that there’s some Yunjae in this chapter.  Just… it’s very light.

And the last part was there so that Jae knows what Yunho was trying to achieve, and also explains why Yunho saw no ring earlier.  The time Jaejoong left “something”, it was his ring.

Now, I’m going off to meet someone.  I’m waiting for your reply to my earlier inquiry about the college and university.  Hey, we might even meet XD *gets smacked* but really, I’m desperate.  Help me out?
