A Repeat After Twelve Years - Answer
“Half an hour left,” the man said almost nervously as he looked at his watch and at Jaejoong. “After half an hour, you are free to go,” he told him.
“Eh?” Jaejoong was taken aback. “Weren’t you going to check if the money was there or not first?” he asked curiously, looking at the man strangely.
The man shook his head sadly. “No. Maybe I was wrong after all,” he shrugged slightly. “I’m sorry for bothering you, but it was nice meeting you. You’re very nice.”
Jaejoong sat silently, clutching the handkerchief with both of his hands. “You are nice yourself,” he said, smiling a little. “Would you mind if I keep this? I’ll return in to you one day.”
“Ah, no, take it if you want,” the man quickly said, waving dismissively at Jaejoong. He looked at the watch again, and sighed in anticipation.
Jaejoong patted his shoulder lightly, as if trying to reassure him. “I’m sure everything will end well.”
Just as he finished saying that, the metal door of the warehouse was banged open, and four figures stood in front, one standing firmly while the three holding up a gun each.
“Hands up! Sung Ji Joon, you are under arrest!” the left most policeman announced as he pointed the gun at the man who sat behind Jaejoong, and walked towards him, followed by the other two policemen.
“I guess this is my end,” Ji Joon said, smiling as he got up and raised his hands in defeat.
Jaejoong whipped around and saw Yunho walking towards him, his expression grim. He quickly stood up and glared at him. “What is the meaning of this?” he demanded.
“What is the meaning of what!?” Yunho asked back, snapping at him. “You wandered by yourself, get kidnapped, and now you’re standing up for him!”
“But-”
“No buts!” Yunho roared, glaring at Jaejoong. “Shut up and let me do my work,” he added sternly, and looked at the three policemen. “Take him away.”
“No!” Jaejoong shouted as he tried to stop the policemen, but Yunho grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
Ji Joon looked at him and smiled. “What is your name, boy?”
“Jaejoong,” he answered. “Kim Jaejoong.”
“Jaejoong, eh?” Ji Joon said then, smiling slightly. “That’s a nice name. It’s nice knowing you. You’re really nice. But don’t worry. As I’ve said, I did this for my own personal want, so I kind of deserved this.”
Jaejoong watched as the three policemen escorted him towards the exit of the warehouse. He could feel Yunho hugging him from behind, but all that he was concerned about at the moment was Ji Joon brought to the police office. He blinked his eyes, and tried to not let the tears stream down.
“Aw, don’t cry, Boo,” Yunho mumbled softly as he kissed the corner of Jaejoong’s eye. “It’ll make me feel like a jerk.”
“I thought…” Jaejoong started, holding Yunho’s hands that were holding him. “I thought we could do something to help him.”
“Of course we could, Boo,” Yunho stated as he smiled softly. “Look,” he added, urging Jaejoong to look forward.
Jaejoong obliged and was confused when he saw the four standing still near the exit, watching them as they exchanged the brief conversation between them.
“That was,” one of the policemen started.
“Kim Jaejoong’s,” the other continued.
“Hidden camera!” the last finished, and they took off their hats and sunglasses, revealing themselves as Changmin, Yoochun and Junsu.
“W- what?” Jaejoong stuttered when he saw the three. “You-“
“This is all Yunho-hyung’s idea!” the three exclaimed in unison as they pointed an accusing finger at Yunho.
“Hey! The hidden camera line wasn’t my idea!” Yunho protested feebly.
“Yunho,” Jaejoong growled lowly as he turned to look at Yunho. “Care to explain?”
Yunho laughed uneasily. “Well… what’s there to explain, Boo?” he asked. “I decided to teach you a lesson for not listening to me first. Hehe… my acting skill has become better, don’t you think?”
Jaejoong whacked him on the head and Yoosumin let out a loud gasp as they said “That must hurt”.
“Um… so…” Ji Joon started, although he was very hesitant.
“We’re letting you go,” Yunho stated. “I don’t think doing something for your loved one is considered an own selfish want,” he added, smiling slightly at him.
“How-?”
“I talked to your sister and the bank you got the loan from, obviously,” Yunho explained. “I heard the full story from your sister, and talked to the bank. They apologized for not believing you and promised to give you longer time to pay off the loan.”
Ji Joon looked shocked, but was extremely happy. “Thank you. You don’t know how much this means to me.”
“If you want to thank anyone, thank this idiot here,” Yunho said, patting Jaejoong’s head. “He was the one who insisted you’re a nice guy, wasn’t he?”
“How do you know?” Ji Joon asked curiously.
“He’s a behavioral analyst. He’s told you that, right?” Yunho asked. “When I heard him laughing at your comment, I knew that he knows you’re not a dangerous person.”
Ji Joon nodded thoughtfully. “Thanks for your help, I guess,” he said to Jaejoong. “Drop by my restaurant sometimes. I’ll treat you guys dinner.”
“Will do!” Jaejoong replied excitedly as he waved at Ji Joon who was getting into his car and leaving the place.
“Uh, so hyung,” Changmin started, urging the two to walk out of the warehouse. “How did you know it was him? We kind of figured how you know this place-because this was where you met Jae-hyung first-but we couldn’t guess how you knew it was Ji Joon-shii.”
“Even I didn’t know his name,” Jaejoong added, and Yunho gave him a look before he shut up.
“I knew because he asked for a cardboard box to not attract suspicion,” Yunho answered. “Directors are usually seen carrying suitcases, and gamblers who bet a lot of money are too. Only owners of restaurants would feel a little uncomfortable with carrying suitcases around.”
The three made an impressive goldfish imitation.
“Then, what was the loan for?” Jaejoong asked. “He told me it was a personal want, but you denied it.”
“His sister got into an accident recently,” Yunho answered. “Her legs were immobilized and she was going through a therapy to get them working again. He bought a car to drive her to her college and to the hospital, but couldn’t pay off the loan because he had to close his restaurant down to take his sister there. That was why he lacked the money to pay off the annuity, but the bank employee didn’t believe him.”
Jaejoong nodded thoughtfully. “So that was what he meant when he said he wished those guys could be nice…”
“Well, we’ll be going back first,” Yoochun announced. “Do whatever you want to do,” he said to Yunho, and then the three waved goodbye at the two.
“Next time, be more careful,” Yunho chided as soon as the three were out of earshot. “Why can’t you wake me up?”
“Because, you already lacked sleep as it is,” Jaejoong protested, frowning a little. “Your office doesn’t open until ten, so why do you always wake up at seven?”
“It’s like an internal alarm clock,” Yunho shrugged. “I can’t get up any later than seven.”
“Does such a thing even exist?” Jaejoong asked, looking at Yunho dubiously.
“Of course,” Yunho grinned and kissed the top of Jaejoong’s head. “Come on, let’s go have lunch.”
“Yunho,” Jaejoong called suddenly and Yunho stopped in his track. “Did you drink coffee again?” he asked accusingly.
“Yeah,” Yunho shrugged. “I was panicked, you could say.”
“Sorry,” Jaejoong mumbled as he looked down. “What if you couldn’t sleep again?”
“Don’t worry your pretty head off,” Yunho grinned as he flicked Jaejoong’s forehead. “Min bought me sleeping pills last week, remember? I tried one and it worked wonders.”
Jaejoong’s mouth formed an ‘o’, and he walked with Yunho to a nearby sandwich place to have lunch.
“Boo,” Yunho called as they walked down the playground together. “Thank you for trusting me.”
Jaejoong felt a smile creeping up. “Thank you for not breaking my trust.”
“Why would I?” Yunho asked teasingly. “It took me five years before you’d trust me,” he added, and Jaejoong slapped his arm playfully.
“Oh! One thing before I forget,” Yunho exclaimed suddenly when he remembered something.
“Yes?”
“Could you change Yunnie to Almight Yunho or something that sounded at least cool?”
End of Case Two
To passionmoon, this is the romantic and humorous ending you asked dear :D thanks for the compliment anyway *gets whacked*
And to those who have answered, yes, the one is Sung Ji Joon. You get the reasons right, but since Yunho doesn’t know those details, I’m skipping them :P
About the internal alarm clock, I believe it does exist. I’m not sure why, but nowadays, no matter how late I sleep during weekends, I’ll always wake up before eight -_-;;; I even slept at three, but woke up at eight again.
Hope you enjoyed this!
