Chapter Two - In My Stead

He'd walk through a wall of fire
Knowing I'm on the other side
He's about everything I need

Other lovers always want more
Been down that road before
But you take just a part of me

All he wants is my time
Not my money or my mind
See this love’s never old
Cos he's living in my soul
Make no mistake I'm always his man

I wouldn't trade this love for anything, for anything
I wouldn't trade this love for anything, for anything

I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but do I deserve it?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“You what!?” a high-pitched voice shrieked and Jaejoong quickly covered his ears with both his hands, trying desperately to save his ear drums.  “How could you be so stupid!?”

“I’m sorry!” Jaejoong quickly said as he bowed down in front of Seulgi who looked positively ready to whack Jaejoong on the head with her rolling pin.  “I was panicked!  I couldn’t think of anyone else!”

Seulgi glared at him again, but lowered her rolling pin.  “Why can’t you send your own picture!?  I told you many times before that you’re not ugly!  Have you never looked at a mirror!?” she grumbled, crossing her arms in front of her chest, demanding an answer.

“I thought that phrase is reserved for ugly people only,” Jaejoong frowned.

“Yes, and for insecure idiots like you,” she rolled her eyes.  “I swear this is similar to anorexic, just in a different way.  Maybe I should make up a name for it.  How does Jaejoong Syndrome sound?”

Jaejoong pouted and looked at her pointedly.  “But it’s Yunho!  He’s different!”

“And how is he different?” Seulgi asked, still looking at him in annoyance.  “No wonder Changmin’s hair is turning gray,” she added as an afterthought.

“What is that supposed to mean!?” Jaejoong squeaked indignantly.  “Anyway… I need you to go in my stead to the public library this Saturday.  Two o’clock,” he repeated again, and looked at her hopefully.  “Please?”

Seulgi looked at him. “Then, what about your ID?  Won’t he be suspicious?” she asked, frowning slightly.

“I’ll still talk to him,” Jaejoong said slowly as he rubbed his chin in thought.  “But I’ll be careful.  That is, if he still wanted to talk to me online,” he added, shrugging.

Seulgi frowned in thought again, then spoke up.  “I will only agree to go if you agree to this one condition,” she started, looking straight at Jaejoong’s eyes.  “I will go meet him, but if I like him, I’ll take him for myself,” she finished, and her expression showed that it was final.

“Alright!” Jaejoong agreed, smiling brightly at her.  “No problem.  Thank you for agreeing,” he added.

Seulgi blinked at him, looking taken aback.  “Uh yeah, you’re welcome…?”

Before Jaejoong had the chance to say anything else, however, their teacher walked into the classroom and they promptly shut up.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“She agreed!” Jaejoong exclaimed triumphantly as he plopped beside Changmin and beamed at him.  “How is your lunch?” he asked then, and Changmin nearly sweat-dropped at how quickly he changed topics.

“She did?” Changmin raised an eyebrow, chewing thoughtfully on his meat ball.  “What did she threaten you with this time?” he asked, remembering the last time, when Jaejoong asked Seulgi to model a cloth in his stead because he thought he wasn’t good-looking enough to do so, and she had threatened him with her frying pan.

“Her rolling pin,” Jaejoong answered simply, and looked around.  “Do you think I still have time for lunch?” he asked, looking at the clock above them.

“Of course,” Changmin nodded.  “I’m surprised she hasn’t run out of kitchen utensils to threaten you with,” he commented absently, popping another meatball into his mouth.  “Maybe I should buy her a portable microwave to threaten you with next.”

Jaejoong looked at him strangely.

“And how did she agree?  What did you do now?” Changmin looked at him suspiciously as he offered him a piece of meatball.

Jaejoong accepted the offered piece and chewed on it slowly.  “She said she’ll take him for herself if she likes him,” he explained.  “I told her it’s okay.  Wait here, I’m going to buy something,” he said, and walked off to the counter to buy some food.

“Hmm,” Changmin mumbled to himself as he watched Jaejoong walk up the counter and order some food.  “Obviously Seulgi-nuna hasn’t had enough experience handling him.”

“Hey Min,” Junsu said suddenly as he sat beside Changmin.  “Where’s Jae-hyung?” he asked, looking around, and then spotted Jaejoong walking towards them with a tray in his hand.  “Hello hyung!” he greeted excitedly.

Jaejoong placed his tray on the table and waved back at Junsu, beaming slightly.  “Hello Su,” he greeted as he sat down beside him. “How is your preparation for tomorrow’s test going?”

“Going well,” Junsu answered happily, taking a piece of meat from Changmin’s tray and popping it into his mouth.  “What about yourself?  Chun asked if you wanted to come over again today.”

“Going well as well,” Jaejoong grinned.  “I’ll call him later.  Are you going?”

“Yes,” Junsu nodded and took another piece of meat from Changmin’s tray, much to the protest of the younger boy.

“Hey, where’s Yunho-hyung?  I thought he wanted to join us for lunch?” Changmin asked suddenly and Jaejoong nearly choked on his food.  He should’ve known that Changmin always meant what he said.

“He’s coming over right now,” Junsu shrugged.  “He had to get Donghae-hyung first.”

“Donghae?” Jaejoong asked.  “He knows Donghae?”

“You know Donghae-hyung?” Junsu asked back, looking at Jaejoong strangely.

Jaejoong was about to answer, but was cut off by a voice calling him.

“Jae?  You know Junsu and Changmin?” Donghae asked as he walked over towards the table and placed his tray on it.  He sat down beside Jaejoong and wondered slightly why Changmin was giving him death glares.

“Changmin’s the one I was talking about,” Jaejoong said with a smile.  “We live together now, and I’m taking care of him.  How’s your course going?”

“Fine, thanks to you,” Donghae laughed.  “Thanks for your help that time.”

“Naah… don’t worry about it,” Jaejoong shook his head in return.  “I met him that one time he came to our school for his project,” he said to Changmin who was still sending death glares at Donghae.  “Remember that survey about nutritional lunches?”

“Oh,” Changmin mumbled in realization.  “Yes, I do.  So that was him.”

“Yes, that was him.  And we still contacted each other occasionally,” Jaejoong explained.

“This world really is small,” Changmin mumbled.

Then Yunho finally came to join them.  He sat beside Donghae, and Changmin sent Donghae death glares again.

The lunch was passed in peace-except for the occasional bickering between the brothers or the mother and son-and they went to their respective classes afterwards.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“You sure he’s going to show up?” Seulgi asked in boredom as she checked her watch for the tenth time.  “You know you could always wait here for me, and I’ll come back later.”

“No!” Jaejoong shouted in reflex.  “You’ll probably go home and not come back.”

“Ah, you know me too well,” Seulgi looked away and let her sly smile drop from her face.

“It’s only another three minutes,” Jaejoong mumbled as he looked at his ladybug-shaped pocket watch.  He smiled slightly as he closed it, and put it back in his pocket.

“Hey, I’ve never seen that watch before,” Seulgi commented as she leaned over.  “Where did you buy it?” she asked again as she eyed the silver-colored watch.

“No, it belonged to the one who saved me that time,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “He forgot to take it with him, or he really wanted to give it to me.  But it’s cute,” he laughed.

Seulgi’s mouth formed an ‘o’.  “Ha, he must really like you then to give something like this to someone he barely ever met,” she commented, grinning and nudging him.

“Hey,” a voice suddenly said and they looked up from the watch to look at Yunho who was standing before them.  “Oh, hello Jae,” he greeted, smiling at him.

“Hello,” Jaejoong greeted back as he shoved his watch into his pocket.  “Are you the one she’s going to meet?” he asked, pretending he didn’t know anything.

“What are you doing here?” Yunho asked then after nodding in confirmation.

“I’m accompanying him/her,” Seulgi and Jaejoong both said at the same time as they pointed at each other.

“What?” Yunho asked, looking at them in confusion.

“Ah!  She’s joking!  She’s really funny, isn’t she?” Jaejoong asked, pinching Seulgi’s hand as he laughed nervously and shot Seulgi a don’t-you-dare look.

“Yeah… if you say so,” Yunho shrugged.  “Shall we go then?” he asked, looking at Seulgi.

“Okay… I’m Bae Seulgi by the way,” she said.

“Jung Yunho.  Nice to meet you,” he replied, smiling a little.  “I’ll see you then, Jae.”

“Yeah!  Take good care of her!” he said, waving at the two as they walked off.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“How did it go?”

“Pretty well.  But there’s something strange.”

“Like what?”

“Like… she keeps on hinting something.  I think I’m going stupid, but I don’t really catch it.”

“Weren’t you always stupid?”

“I hate you.”

“So, what’re you going to do?”

“I don’t know.  I don’t think she’s the one either.  But I can’t be so sure.  It’s like accusing.”

“Mmmhm… I get what you mean.  So why are you telling me this?”

“Just feel like it.”

“I’m hanging up.”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Hey Seulgi,” Jaejoong said as he placed his cell phone near his ear, and held it in place with his shoulder as he chopped the vegetables needed for making dinner.  “How did it go?”

“It was nice,” Seulgi said from the other end.  “Yunho is such a gentleman.  He’s nice, kind, and caring as well.  And don’t forget good-looking.  He’s the perfect boyfriend!” she gushed happily.

“Ah, glad to hear that,” Jaejoong mumbled, pushing the chopped vegetables into a pot of boiling water.  “So did you have fun?”

“I had lots of fun,” Seulgi beamed.  “You should try going out with him some other time.  He’s really fun to be with!”

“Mm… I’ll think about it,” Jaejoong said, placing the lid over the pot.  “So, you decided you like him?”

“Yes,” Seulgi answered firmly.  “I want you to help set me up with him.  If you disagree, then I’ll tell him you lied to him.”

“Whoa, no need to threaten me that way,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “Of course I’ll help you.  After all, he’s not the only one I like.  There’s still the one who gave me the watch.”

The other end went silent that Jaejoong feared she had hung up, but the dial tone wasn’t there yet.

“Oh,” Seulgi said after a while.  “Okay then.  Good luck.”

“Yeah,” Jaejoong replied, smiling slightly.  “Good luck to you too.”

End of Chapter Two

I’m thinking of starting all chapters with the lyric of a song :3 what do you think?  I’m not sure if it’s a good idea, but I’d like to know what you think :DDD

The song at the start of this chapter is “Trade This Love” by Guy Sebastian, but I only take parts of it, and I change the she into he :3

In case any of you were wondering, the convo after Seulgi and Yunho went is between Yunho and Donghae on the phone :3
