Chapter Five - Blossoms of Spring
Yunho paused in front of a big bookstore with glass walls and door. It was quite big, and it had so many imported and translated books, put in neat rows of shelves.
He idly wondered why he was here although he wasn’t really interested in foreign books, and he had so much assignments and projects to finish as he reached out for the handle.
That’s right… the reason why was Jaejoong.
He sighed helplessly and pushed the door open, walking into the building.
-.-.-.-.-. flashback -.-.-.-.-.
Yunho was in the Yunjae room, his laptop situated on his lap as he sat cross-legged on his bed, browsing the internet for additional information he might need for his paper. As he waited for the pages to load, he switched to Microsoft Word and began typing like there was no tomorrow.
“Yunho-yah?” Jaejoong asked as he walked into the bedroom, and looked at the clock on the end table near his bed. “Um, do you want to go out?”
“Why?” Yunho asked as he looked up from his laptop, taking off his reading glasses. “You want to buy something?”
“Well… I would’ve gone myself if I could, but…” Jaejoong started, fidgeting nervously. “I-I have to write up a report and send it to my professor before three.”
Yunho sighed. “You don’t have to tell me that,” he shook his head as he smiled a little at Jaejoong who looked a little disappointed. “What is it?”
Jaejoong beamed as he walked over to sit in front of Yunho. He took out a piece of paper, and wrote something on it. “It’s an English novel, but please buy the translated one. The title is “Diary of a Mad Bride”, by Laura Wolf,” he said, giving the piece of paper to Yunho.
“Okay,” Yunho agreed as he quickly saved his work and put his laptop down on the bed. “Do you need to use this?” he asked, pointing at it.
“I won’t do anything to whatever you’re using,” Jaejoong said as he turned the laptop to face him, and minimized the programs Yunho was using.
“I know you won’t,” Yunho grinned. “Oh, and next time, you don’t have to tell me why you can’t. You know why,” he added as he got up from his bed.
Jaejoong stood in front of him and smiled. “Because you’d do anything I ask you to,” he mumbled softly and pulled Yunho down for a kiss. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
-.-.-.-.-. end of flashback -.-.-.-.-.
Yunho quickly approached a worker there and asked if there was a copy of the book Jaejoong wanted. Yes, he was too lazy to look for it himself, and what’s wrong with that?
“It’s right there,” the worker pointed at a place on the shelf right across them, and went back to unpacking new books that had just come that day.
Yunho quickly muttered thanks and walked over to the shelf he pointed. Sure enough, the books were there, lined neatly between other books that began with the letter D.
He took it, looked at the price, and decided he’d just buy it for Jaejoong as a present or something. Even though it was translated, it still cost a lot.
“Now, pay and go back home,” he mumbled as he looked at his watch, and noticed it was half past two. He silently wondered if Jaejoong had finished the report or not, and got in line to pay for the book. Since it wasn’t that crowded, he got his turn quickly-very quickly in fact.
He paid for the book, and turned to walk out when he saw someone familiar. “Hey, aren’t you Keita, one of Jae’s friend?” he asked as he approached him.
Keita looked up from the book he was reading and stared at Yunho. “Yes? What is it?”
“Do you want to go out for a coffee?” Yunho asked.
Keita stared at him as if he had grown a third eye, but remained silent.
Then Yunho noticed his mistake. “No! I wasn’t asking you out. There’s just something I want to ask you, and I don’t think it’s wise to ask you back at your apartment.”
“Oh,” Keita mumbled as he put down the book back to where it was. “Fine then, name the place,” he said, shrugging as he stood upright and looked expectantly at Yunho.
Minutes later found them in the coffee shop where the infamous waitress worked. She had asked why he wasn’t with Jaejoong, but only nodded when he told her why.
“What do you want to ask?” Keita asked.
“Heechul told me you know why Jae gave those paintings,” Yunho started. “He told me to ask you why.”
“Because he liked his friends?” Keita shrugged.
“No, I mean, why it was assigned in that way,” Yunho shook his head.
“Oh, that,” Keita nodded thoughtfully. “Yes, he did tell me once before. Listen up then, because I’m not going to repeat this,” he warned as he looked at Yunho sternly.
“Okay,” Yunho agreed.
“Summer Breeze was given to Heechul because he’s hot-headed like summer, but sometimes very nice, like the breeze. Autumn Haze was given to Hankyung because he is nice and calm, just like the autumn. Winter Hail… that’s because-as he said-I’m cold to someone I barely ever met, and can be dangerous like the hail. As for Blossoms of Spring… he didn’t tell me anything personality-wise, but he said he liked spring the most,” Keita explained.
Yunho blinked stupidly for a moment.
“Where’s the stupid grin? I thought you’d be happy to hear that,” Keita deadpanned as he watched Yunho still blinking in confusion for another five seconds.
Yunho then broke into a wide grin. “This isn’t stupid,” he protested, but couldn’t fight off the grin so he covered his face with his hands in embarrassment.
“Whatever…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“I’m home,” Yunho called out as he stepped into their shared apartment and took off his shoes, lining them up neatly at the side before walking inside.
“Welcome home,” Jaejoong greeted as he walked out of the kitchen. “Did you find the one I asked for?” he asked a little excitedly, smiling widely.
“Yep, sure did,” Yunho said, giving the plastic bag to Jaejoong. “Sorry for taking so long,” he added as he looked at the clock, and saw that it was four already.
“Oh, you met Keita, I know,” Jaejoong said. “Hankyung told me. He called Keita earlier, and told me what he said. What were you talking about?”
“We didn’t really talk. I only asked him something and he answered,” Yunho shrugged as he walked with Jaejoong to the kitchen. “What’s for dinner?”
“Your favorite. What did you ask him then?” Jaejoong asked as he turned the stove back on, and went back to cooking dinner for the five of them.
“I’ll tell you that later,” Yunho said, kissing Jaejoong’s cheek softly. “Now, I gotta go take a bath and finish my assignment. Don’t forget to call me for dinner!”
Jaejoong laughed as he watched Yunho dashing towards the bedroom, and hummed slightly as he stirred the soup in the pot, wondering what made Yunho so happy.
He then paused and wondered. Since when was he Yunho’s mood ring?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Are you finished?” Jaejoong asked as he looked at Yunho’s work from behind his shoulder. He knew that he couldn’t help much since he was in the science stream.
“Almost,” Yunho said happily as he typed up the last bit of the report, and let out a satisfied sigh as he saved it, and printed it out with their shared printer that somehow ended up in Yunjae room.
Jaejoong joined him on the bed, and sat behind him. “Thank you for the book earlier,” he said, hugging Yunho from behind. “Is that your way of saying I don’t have to pay you back?”
Yunho chuckled as he secured the paper together. “Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t,” he said, shutting down his laptop and putting it on the end table, along with the paper.
He had taken off the plastic seal of the book, along with the price sticker before he gave the book to Jaejoong so he didn’t know the price of it.
“Do you want me to pay you back then?”
“No.”
“Okay.”
“Sleepy yet?” Yunho asked as he sensed Jaejoong shaking a little because of suppressing a yawn. He turned around and pulled Jaejoong down to lie on his lap.
“A little,” Jaejoong admitted, looking up at him. “What did you ask Keita?” he asked.
“You’re still curious?” Yunho lifted an eyebrow.
“Mm-hm,” Jaejoong mumbled.
“Curiosity killed the cat,” Yunho pointed out.
“I’m not a cat,” Jaejoong pouted.
“Sure looks like one,” Yunho teased. “I asked him about the paintings. I saw them when I visited Heechul yesterday,” he explained, running his hand through Jaejoong’s hair.
“Hm, and?”
“He told me why you gave me the spring painting,” Yunho shrugged. “Why?”
“Why what? Why I gave you that, or why I liked spring?” Jaejoong asked, grinning a little. “I figured he told you why already,” he added.
“Okay… so?”
“Because it’s warm… and beautiful,” Jaejoong sighed happily, although it sounded almost like a purr, and Yunho was even more convinced that Jaejoong resembled a cat.
“Just like you?” Yunho grinned.
“No, just like you.”
“Am I?” Yunho smiled softly.
“Yes,” Jaejoong nodded, and stifled a yawn again.
“Go to sleep,” Yunho ordered.
“I want to stay here.”
“Then stay.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
The next morning, Yunho woke up to a terrible backache, and his right arm asleep. He rubbed his eyes with his left hand, and noticed that the two of them had somehow fallen down from the bed with him below.
He looked at the bright yellow post-it stuck near the edge of his bed, read it, and laughed.
Hyung, nuna, if you don’t intend to use the beds, you can always give us them.
-- Changmin
P.S. do you need help to join the two beds together later?
End of Chapter Four
So, we now know why the paintings were assigned in that order :3
For those who don’t get the mood ring part, it basically means he knows what Yunho’s feeling, because that’s what mood rings do right? *gets whacked*
Anyway, enjoy~
