Chapter Two - Declaration of War
“I’m confused at how this apartment building works,” Junsu admitted after Hyukjae told him the six of them were staying in the apartment next to theirs. “I mean, Donghae’s apartment is only for one person. Ours is for four actually, and yours is for six. How can they be arranged that way?”
“How am I supposed to know?” Hyukjae asked back. “You’re the one who live here longer than I do.”
“Okay fine, don’t answer my question,” Junsu pouted.
The twelve boys were currently still gathered in the five boys’ apartment, talking about their first day in college, which would be tomorrow.
“So you guys go to the same college,” Yoochun nodded. “And? What about the streams?”
“Well, Keita and I are taking the Arts stream,” Hyukjae answered. “Donghae, Seven, Heechul, Shiwon, and Hankyung are all taking the Science stream, just like Jae.”
“Aw, so we’re not going to be together with Jae at school?” Junsu sulked.
“Hey, at least you’re still in the same apartment as his,” Hyukjae shrugged.
“And yours is just beside us,” Junsu added, and Hyukjae nodded.
“What about the clubs? Have you decided?” Junsu asked.
“I don’t know. I may join the soccer team,” Hyukjae shrugged. “You?” he grinned.
“Do you even have to ask?” Junsu grinned back, and they laughed together while Yoochun rolled his eyes and labeled them as mentally-challenged people who had just run away from a nuthouse.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Wake up!” Junsu shouted as he jumped from one bed to another, trying to wake Changmin and Yoochun up. “The others are here already, and Yunjae are up!”
“I don’t care!” Changmin grumbled as he turned and buried his head in his pillow. “I want to sleep! I don’t have a morning class!”
“Well, yeah, we all don’t,” Junsu rolled his eyes, showing his best ‘duh’ expression. “It’s eight!”
“And!?” Changmin retorted. “My class isn’t until… ten!”
“Exactly! We all have orientation first at nine, dummy!” Junsu pouted as he threw a pillow at Changmin’s back. “Now go get up!” he said, and kicked Yoochun off the bed.
“Ow- hey!” Yoochun protested as he fell off with a thud. “That was uncalled for!”
“I’ve been trying to wake you since seven!” Junsu protested, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “Go take a bath then. We have to go in forty minutes at most.”
“Fine,” Changmin grumbled and dragged himself to the only bathroom in the apartment.
“Ah no! Wait!” Yoochun scrambled to his feet, trying to outrun Changmin to the bathroom. “Gyaaaah! No~!” he wailed loudly when the door shut in front of him.
“What’s wrong?” Jaejoong asked as he peeked out of the kitchen.
“Oh you know Minnie. He always use up all the hot water left,” Junsu shrugged.
Yunho walked out of his room and patted Yoochun’s back sympathetically. “Maybe you can have a bath at the school’s restroom.”
The others merely watched in amusement as Yoochun threatened to strangle Yunho to death, and Yunho quickly went to the kitchen, the only place where violence was forbidden-except if done by Jaejoong himself, of course.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“What are you making?” Yunho asked as he looked at the stove, and noticed the sizzling fried eggs. “Sunny side up?”
“It was supposed to be scrambled egg,” Jaejoong pouted. “But I couldn’t find the spatula until it was too late.”
Yunho nodded dumbly and decided to let Jaejoong and Hankyung work in peace. After all, only the two of them were decent cooks, and the others were putting their lives on their hands.
Okay, so not that bad, but they tended to exaggerate things anyway.
“Hey you,” Keita called as soon as Yunho walked into the living room. He was sitting alone on the couch while the others were currently in Yoosumin room, playing cards while waiting for the two to finish cooking.
“Me?” Yunho asked, pointing at himself.
“No, I’m talking to the wall,” Keita rolled his eyes. “Of course you! Who else is in this room?”
“You,” Yunho answered simply.
“…”
“What is it?” Yunho asked.
“Sometimes I wonder how Jae kept up with you,” Keita sighed, slumping in the couch.
“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that. What do you want?” Yunho asked, pouting as he sat on the armchair opposite him.
“Oh, I only wanted to ask you something, and then tell you something if you answer my question correctly,” Keita said, and Yunho nodded. “So here goes… you’re Jae’s fiancé, right?”
“Huh? How do you know?”
“I told you to answer, not to ask back,” Keita pursed his lips. “Answer me.”
Yunho sighed. “Yes, I am.”
“Okay,” Keita nodded. “So, let me tell you this,” he started, “you know Seven, right?”
“That strange and slightly creepy guy?” Yunho asked, shuddering slightly.
“Yes, that strange and slightly creepy guy…” Keita sighed in defeat. “Whatever. So you know him. Well, he happens to have a crush on Jae from a long time ago. He originally planned on telling Jae during their senior year, but Jae had unexpectedly gone to Korea.”
“Oh, tough luck,” Yunho commented.
“Well, not really unexpectedly…” Keita shrugged. “He told me and Heechul, and Heechul kind of convinced him into going back to Korea,” he explained.
“I know. Were you also the one who packed his clothes?” Yunho asked.
“No, it was only Heechul.”
“Okay. Go on.”
“So, I told him that you two are engaged yesterday, but he didn’t believe me,” Keita mumbled. “I suggest you keep an eye open all the time. Or your fiancé will be taken away from you.”
Even before a second of silence reigned over them, Keita spoke up again. “Well, it’s not like Jae’s going to ever be unfaithful or something, but he’s too nice. Seven’s his friend, so he won’t suspect him unless he does something drastic, like kissing him or trying to ra--”
“Awawawa~ stop right there!” Yunho held his hands up as if trying to stop a car. “Don’t continue.”
“As you wish,” Keita shrugged. “But I do have a point, right?”
“Yes you do,” Yunho nodded. Although he hated to admit it, Jaejoong was extremely trusting and forgiving, especially to those he had known for a long time.
And Seven was one of them.
“Well, that’s all I want to say,” Keita said as he got up and stretched. “I’m going to the Yoosumin room to join them. Good luck, lover boy,” he smirked as he patted Yunho’s shoulder, and walked off to the room.
Yunho looked disturbed as he stared almost blankly at the floor near his feet. His mind was racing, trying to process all the information that had been given to him.
So Seven was a close friend from a long time ago, and he apparently had a crush on Jaejoong, and he didn’t believe they were engaged.
But why didn’t he believe it?
Yunho snorted and crossed his arms in front of his chest. It was his choice whether he wanted to believe it or not, but it remained an unchangeable fact and he couldn’t do anything about it. Especially since Jaejoong knew about it already.
“Well, tough luck then, mister,” Yunho mumbled to himself. “If you want to blame someone, blame your rotten luck instead.”
And then, with a relatively quiet-since he didn’t want to attract suspicion-war cry, he announced that this was a declaration of war, and that he was going to fight for what is rightfully his until the other side gave up.
Suddenly, Jaejoong’s head poked out of the kitchen.
“Yunho-yah, since when are you a member of the army? You’re not even twenty yet!”
