A/N: I’m ranting here, so if you don’t want to read, please feel free to skip ahead. First of all, I wanted to apologize if there are any Eun Hye fans here. I seriously didn’t know there’s a celebrity named Eun Hye and my friend had just told me this morning. I know it’s strange, but I have the ability to see the near future. Strangely enough, I can only see them when they’re going to be true. Like when I designed a costume for my character, and a few weeks later a dance team from a high school competing at my school’s cup wore the same costume, or when I designed a costume for my friend’s project, only to have her say it’s like Power Rangers’ costume that I’ve never seen. And then there were the incident in which I wrote down the idea for my newest story, only to have my friend tell me there’s a comic book with the same main idea a week later.
My goodness, someone must really hate me.
Chapter Four - Findings
Night time came shortly after, and everyone was seated quietly in the dining room, abiding by the rule of no talking while eating. Plates of food were distributed as they moved from appetizer to dessert, an all in all nice dinner.
They sat quietly after dinner, all eyes were fixed on Yunho except for Jaejoong and Yuhan who were busy collecting the dishes and putting them in the sink.
Ynho looked down at the table, and Yoochun nudged him harshly, snapping him out of his reverie. When he saw the expectant gazes, he was reminded of what he had to do.
“Oh right, the reports,” he said quickly as he nodded slightly. “I have made a rough sketch of this island,” he pointed at the parchment placed neatly on a counter. “But it’s not perfect yet. Now, what did you guys find?”
“Oh, we saw a huge hawk statue in the garden, but nothing more aside from flowers and trees,” Changmin answered before Junsu could do so, because he knew Junsu would end up ranting about how Changmin and Yoochun dragged him back inside the house right after they finished checking the garden although he wanted to look at the statue some more.
“Ah, that statue. I saw it too,” Hojun admitted as she stared at her manicured nails and blew on them. “I saw it from the balcony of the second floor. It’s quite big.”
Junsu nodded excitedly. “Yes, it’s huge! I’d like to try and climb it.”
“Move on,” Yunho cut before Junsu could rant any further.
“We found nothing on the first floor that might point who the sender of the letter is. There is nothing personal in this mansion, only necessities and such,” Jaejoong answered as he took a seat in his chair, Yuhan following closely behind.
“So, what did you find, Eun Hye, Changsun and Yongchui?” Yunho asked as he turned to the remaining three.
“Well…”
-.-.-.-.-. flashback -.-.-.-.-.
Eun Hye and Changsun walked together along the corridor of the second floor. They were chatting idly about why they hated Jaejoong while looking at the rooms on the second floor.
The second floor was basically very simple. There were only five bedrooms, a small room with a staircase that went to the attic, and another room they had yet to check.
“Once, I asked for his help to retrieve my fiancée’s opal earrings. He couldn’t retrieve it and the insurance company agreed to pay the insurance money to me,” Eun Hye started as they walked towards the last room they hadn’t checked. “One day before the company paid me the money, he came to me with the earrings.”
Changsun raised an eyebrow.
“I thought he did it on purpose. How could he retrieve it exactly one day before the insurance company pays me?” Eun Hye asked with gritted teeth as he fisted his hands angrily. He could still remember how the insurance company refused to pay him since the earrings were returned. He also remembered the long time he waited for the earrings to be returned, hoping in vain that they would come back to him soon.
He pushed the door open and was greeted by the sight of various musical instruments. There was a piano up front, and a standing microphone near it. Behind the standing microphone was a podium, and beside it was a small patch of raised platform. From the front to the back, musical instruments such as violin, viola, piccolo, harp, and oboe were arranged neatly, as if it was a small orchestra ready to perform.
“Interesting. I didn’t know there’s a music room,” Eun Hye commented as he looked around the room, but found nothing of interest aside from the musical instruments. It wasn’t like they were experts at playing them or anything, but he thought it was worth remembering, since they were ordered in an unusual manner.
Changsun looked around the room twice before nodding in satisfaction and stepped back, allowing Eun Hye to get out as well.
“What about you? What made you hate him?” Eun Hye asked as soon as they were out of the music room and were walking down the corridor again, this time wanting to relax on the balcony.
“My older brother committed suicide three years ago,” Changsun answered truthfully. It didn’t hurt as much as it did back then, and he could talk about it more easily now.
“What happened?” Eun Hye asked, starting to get interested.
“He loved Jaejoong. I wasn’t sure how exactly they met, but my brother liked him ever since. He knew Jaejoong was still single and he hoped he could be with him. But then, he saw Jaejoong walking together with Yuhan, and he broke down,” Changsun shook his head at his brother’s stupidity, but love made people stupid.
“He committed suicide later?” Eun Hye pried. He knew it was a little rude to ask something that personal, and that it was girly to gossip, but he couldn’t care less.
“Yeah, kind of. He didn’t even wait for me to get home, and he certainly didn’t talk to Jaejoong first, asking if they were really lovers,” Changsun sighed. “Turned out that they weren’t, and aren’t. But what can I do now? I couldn’t bring back my brother from the afterlife.”
“So I see,” Eun Hye nodded in sympathy. “That guy makes people hate him without even realizing it,” he shook his head.
“I agree,” Changsun nodded. “On the more important matter, I noticed something strange about this mansion,” he started, changing the topic as uncomfortable silence befell them.
“What is it?” Eun Hye asked.
“There are no radios, televisions or telephones in this mansion.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Yongchui went up to the attic and opened the big slanted window that connected the attic to the rooftop. The surface was quite flat so he could stand on the extension without being afraid of falling off.
“Mm, no one brought a charger with them. How careless,” Yongchui muttered to himself as he took out his cell phone with him. He certainly didn’t think they would be trapped for a week in the island and it was too late to go back to his office and retrieve his charger.
He looked at the LCD of his cell phone and nearly groaned. As he thought. There was no signal in this island.
“Oh well. it wasn’t like they would bother to send a boat here to pick us up if we called them anyway,” he shrugged, and stepped back inside the attic before he descended the stairs and met with Eun Hye and Changsun on his way out.
-.-.-.-.-. end of flashback -.-.-.-.-.
“So there are no communication devices at all in this island,” Yunho said exasperatedly as he slapped his face with his hand and groaned slightly.
“Does that mean…?” Yoochun trailed off, and Yunho nodded grimly.
“The sender of the letter has carefully planned everything to make us stay the week. And whatever he has up his sleeve, doesn’t mean any good.”
End of Chapter Four
When I looked at the outline for this chapter, I nearly choked. It was so short! But then again, to stretch the chapter a little longer, I used a flashback. Phew. This chapter is shorter than the others, but hopefully the next one will be longer.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I’ll work on Blossoms of Spring again after this.
