Leoben had continued spending his time either in Starbuck's (and his) cave, the little clearing he worked out in, or now the grove of bamboo he'd wandered into. Starbuck wandered idly in no particular direction. Any was preferable to standing still, especially when it was warm out. She found Leoben sitting in a clearing, babbling nonsense words to a bird. She stopped and stared before cracking a smile.

Leoben offered the bird more little bits of bread, throwing them with less force so that eventually it had to come closer to him. But he wasn't going to hurt it. He did think its wing needed tending but that would probably have to wait.

He glanced over at Starbuck, surprised to see her but allowing none of that to show on his features. He smiled. "Ni hao, Starbuck."

"Nee hama," Kara answered, making a small effort to remember what little Chinese he'd managed to pound into her brain. Needless to say, it wasn't sticking very well.

"...uh..." She was horrible at Chinese but he found it strangely endearing. He set some bread crumbs down right in front of him and watched the bird hop over. "Making a friend?"
