John was surprised and yet not to find Thirteen suddenly bounding out to Cash, and he rolled his eyes at how easily Cash got rough with Thirteen and the poor birds.

He wasn't surprised at all to see Leoben, and he figured if there was anyone he'd have to be around all weekend, then Leoben was at least his best bet. "It's been perfect, except for you showing up," he said easily. "How'd you find me?"

Leoben rolled his eyes but he figured Thirteen wouldn't get into too much trouble if only because the other animals were smarter than him. Most of them had already cleared off to find safer places to be.

"I wanted to," he said with a grin before nodding in the direction of the puppies. "And Thirteen was a little lonely." When in doubt, blame something cute and mostly harmless.

"Yeah, Thirteen was," John replied skeptically. Still, he shrugged and waved at the rest of the log he was sitting on. "Pull up a tree, I was getting kinda lonely too."
