And I'm still trying to figure out what happened to my birthday!!!!! Surely you recall that my birthday was June 20th......Right? Yeah..... Okay..... Whew! For a moment there, you had me worried

I grew up in North Carolina where we have plenty of mosquitoes. They think I'm mana from heaven so I met each personally. I only lived in Minnesota for one summer and lordalmighty, I could not believe those 737's you guys called mosquitoes! Those suckers were to big they could have sold advertising on their sides. And they did not bite, they chomped. I was horrified. I got two winters there which I loved and only 1 summer for which i was enormously grateful. i don't know how you stand it.
Hah! 747s they are, indeed! Mosquitoes are the reason we generally stay within the boundaries of Minneapolis &/or Hennepin County. The county has a very good mosquito spraying program. But, go outside the sprayed area and the 'squeetors just might haul you or your beloved fur-child away! And, if you think OURS are big, drive a few hours north of Winnepeg and you might meet mosquitoes that take out the dragonflies.
Of COURSE, you can predict rain showers ... then, if they happen as you predict, we will know who to blame and who to punish for it. Not that we'd hold it against you or anything.............................
As to not reading many books this year, you have been just a tad busy and distracted. Hopefully, you and your dad will reach a point of less stress and fewer health issues very soon.
I picked up some salad lettuce yesterday and pulled a packet of bacon from the freezer. BLTs on the table tonight!
Dad is having one of those two steps back days today. Woke up and his knee is really sore. Not sure if it's the arthritis that the doctor said he has in the knee or what's going on.
Glad you got to see the stars and the planets and the meteors at least! I think a lot of us were disappointed when it came to seeing the comet.
I trudged out into the forest, lugging camera and tripod, and used the camera on a manual 30 second exposure, to get my recent night-sky shots. It is a great deal of faff, and the resulting shots are never anything like the shots the professionals take. But at least I don't have to worry about being eaten alive by mosquitoes while waiting for the 30 seconds to elapse. That would take real dedication!
You're doing much better on the reading front than I am. I seem to have stopped reading fiction altogether right now.
I'm glad we got out there and enjoyed the darkened sky and its many wonderful lights. I'm thinking we might need to try a different spot sometime during the Perseid Meteor Showers. MyJeff's co-worker gave him a promising suggestion for that "different spot". Of course, the peak days are the late-middle of what SHOULD be my 1st week back on the job. We shall have to keep fingers crossed.
Do remember, dear lady, I don't have access to those oh-so-distracting Korean soap opera films that you have. I think that would be an excellent excuse, you know.
Have you launched into the David Baldacci book yet? I'm in the middle of the newest Daniel Silva novel, enjoying it immensely.
I made a trip to the NE Farmer's Market today. Everyone inside the market was masked, but not too many of the folks walking to and from. Regardless, I purchased lettuce, an eggplant, green beans, a chocolate chip, cherry scone (which I gifted to someone in my building) and a slice of banana bread which I gifted myself. :)
I'll be sending positive vibes your way that the employment scenarios work out exactly as you desire.
Heavens! I finished the book with Dexter in ND back on the 17th! Finished "The Shallows" on the 18th. Baldacci's "Memory Man" is In Transit for me at the library (which means I'll soon get an email to come pick it up). Goldman's "Gone to Dust" is a few days ahead of "Memory Man". Finished Louise Penny's "A Better Man" months ago from the library. All very good. Thanks so much for the new authors to keep me reading. ;-}
Sounds like your Farmer's Market trip was a big success. I'm planning to bake banana bread tomorrow, provided the frozen bananas thaw sufficiently; and the day isn't too hot for baking.
Thanks for your kind good wishes, Neil. I'm sure all will work out well enough--eventually, anyway. ;-b
