A shocking statistic in Understanding White Privilege sent me hunting for information about high African American infant mortality, and the research which links the personal experience of racism to maternal stress and lower birthweights. The Torchwood Character isn't a Desi. I think you'll find his lineage is Lebanese.

Hmm... "Rupesh Patanchali" doesn't seem like a Lebanese name. But you may well be right about Rik Makarem - there's very little information about him online right now. What I could find indicated that, if he is actually of Lebanese extraction, this will not be the first time he's been cast as a Desi. Anyway, we'll just have to wait to find out!
