Title: Remember
Pairing: Charlie/Claire
Fandom: LOST
Rating: PG
Word Count: 208
A/N: Spoilers only up to 6x03.

About a year has passed for her on the island when she sees him again; she guesses that's how long it's been. She's given up counting the days for a long while now.

Of course, though, it's different this time, because he is dead.

"This is not what I wanted for you," He says, and he sounds so sad that it would've broken her heart, if it wasn't already broken beyond repair.

It's so dark inside her tent, and she can't see him, and she should be afraid. But she's not. And after all, she would know that voice anywhere.

"Charlie," She utters from where she lies, her voice cracking with overwhelming relief.

He shifts, moving closer. His fingers run gently through her hair.

"I missed you," She whispers, the tears already sliding down her face. She hurts so much.

They don't mention Aaron at all, but his absence is a heavy pain that they share, that links them together. She can feel it. Because Charlie loved her son as she did. And Charlie loved her. (And she loved him. She did.)

"It's okay," Charlie soothes, his voice low in the still night. "Go to sleep now."

She sleeps better than she has in such a long time.

Title: Stay
Pairing: Jack/Kate
Fandom: LOST
Rating: PG
Word Count: 260
A/N: Spoilers up to 6x10.

It's only when she's away from him that Kate realizes just how much she loves him, how much she still does, even after all that's happened.

She sits alone and thinks. She thinks of Claire, the sight of her with fury in her face, positioning the knife above her neck; she also thinks of the way her face crumpled as she sobbed, clinging to her, so vulnerable and broken. She thinks of Aaron, and the sorrow she felt at having to say goodbye, but knowing she was doing the right thing as she made the vow that she would bring Claire back, and reunite her with her son, the way it's meant to be.

She thinks of Jack too. She thinks of the way he had pulled her close and told her to be careful. She thinks of how they had crossed paths shortly after that, and how they had went separate ways once again. She thinks of how sad his eyes are when he looks at her.

She will not stay here with Locke (or whoever he is now). She knows enough not to trust him.

She will get Claire away from here, and go back to where Jack is. With him, she feels safe (she always has).

She thinks of all these things, but, like always, her thoughts linger on Jack.

She knows that, now, he is willing to let her go, if she so desires it.

And because of that, this time, she will not run away.

(Because we should all be able to start over.)

Title: Choice
Pairing: Harry/Hermione
Fandom: HP
Rating: PG
Word Count: 270
A/N: DH spoilers.

It has been two days since Ron has left them.

They've been quite possibly the longest two days he's ever experienced.

He doesn't want to believe it, but Hermione's cries at night, when she thinks he's asleep, is a painful reminder of the truth. Ron is gone.

He looks over at Hermione, seeing the book Dumbledore had left her splayed open on her lap, and tries to think of what to say.

She had decided to stay. That is something Harry has dwelled on just as much as Ron's absence. He can't deny the truth of Ron's words, that things weren't going as he had hoped. But in spite of that, Hermione had decided to stay. For him.

It is because of this realization that the burden of guilt gets even heavier.

"Hermione," He says, and she looks up to gaze at him, waiting, her eyes still faintly rimmed with red. He knows how much she's tried to hide it.

"I..." He falters, and it hits him suddenly: this is the first time they've spoken to each other since Ron left. "Thank you for staying. I don't know what I'd do without you."

The words make him sheepish, and so, so sorry, but they're the truth.

For a few seconds, they are silent.

"Of course," She finally responds, then smiles slightly, the warmth evident in her brown eyes. "You know I wouldn't leave you on your own."

She says it like it's a fact, confident. He knows it is.

"Yeah, I do," He replies quietly, and as gratitude swells in his heart, he smiles for the first time in days.

Title: Promise
Pairing: Sawyer/Juliet
Fandom: LOST
Rating: PG
Word Count: 215
A/N: Spoilers up to 6x10.

It worked.

Those two words become a mantra in his head, fills him with even more pain, because, obviously, it's not true. It didn't work.

He finds himself thinking most of that night on the dock, when he had asked her to stay for his sake. He remembers her smirk at his request, her eyes lighting up.

And he hates himself, because he didn't just let her go. He will feel this way for the rest of his life. That he knows for sure.

He looks at Kate, where she sits alone, pondering, and finds that what he had felt for her, so long ago, is gone. It just took Juliet's death for him to fully realize it.

That knowledge he hates as well, but he can't deny it, and he won't even bother trying.

He remembers so much about her. He remembers how blue her eyes were in the sunlight, the way she laughed.

He remembers her pain when she felt he might not always love her.

All she wanted was for him to get off this damn island. Because of that, he knows what he will do.

He will stick with Locke (or whoever he is now) and get away from here and never look back.

For her, he will fulfill her wish.

Title: Back Then
Pairing: Severus/Lily
Fandom: HP
Rating: PG
Word Count: 348
A/N: DH spoilers.

"Mudblood." She says softly, the disgust evident in her tone. Severus nearly winces.

That's one word he never wants to hear come out of her mouth.

She rocks slightly on the swing next to him, both of them back home for summer after first year, her shoes scraping against the dusty ground.

"What a cruel thing to say to someone." She continues, her voice low in anger.

Severus knows what she is referring to. He's heard the Slytherins say it to every muggleborn, in the corridors, in the library, in the classes. He promises to himself that he'll never say it. He could never see Lily in that way. Not ever.

"Just ignore it," He says to her, doing what he can to comfort her. "They just want to get a reaction out of you."

"Yeah," Lily sighs, looking down at the ground.

"My mum says you can come over for dinner tomorrow," She adds, by way of changing the subject, and he is relieved.

"Okay."

He guesses it must be around eight in the evening. The summer heat envelops them, his hair sticking to his forehead. He brushes it away impatiently.

He thinks it's about time for them to leave, and he looks over at her to say so, but what he sees makes his voice die in his throat.

Her head is bowed, tears sliding down her cheeks. It alarms him; he's never thought of her as the type to cry.

Both of her hands are held limply on her lap and he reaches over to rest his hand on them. "Lily, please don't."

He hates it when girls cry.

Lily takes hold of his hand, uses her other hand to wipe the tears away hastily. She looks up at him.

"We'll always be together, won't we, Sev?" She asks, her eyes so green. "We'll always be best friends?"

There are so many things he wants to say.

Of course. How could you think we wouldn't be? You're the only friend I've ever had.

He grips her hand firmly, it soft and warm in his.

"Always."
